My Bloody Valentine's First Show In 16 Years

thubmnail icon: My Bloody Valentine's First Show In 16 Years

"Welcome to our rehearsal. The real gigs start next week," Kevin Shields told a 350-strong sold-out crowd at London's ICA tonight. Little consolation to folks who bought tickets to next Friday's Roundhouse show thinking it would be the shoegaze heroes' very first performance in 16 years. C'est la vie. By all accounts (okay, one account) tonight's warm-up show left concertgoers "ecstatic." The setlist included six cuts from Loveless, four from Isn't Anything, and a 20-minute "You Made Me Realise" as a closer. There were strobelights! Guess I will start refreshing YouTube now. MBV has a number of festival stops before visiting the States this fall. Check out the itinerary here. Tonight's setlist photo via Kubacheck. Click here to enlarge.

Weird. You'd think that they'd play at LEAST one tune they hadn't played live before. Same as the La's: 17 years later and they have the exact same set list :)

Still, great to see these guys back. I look forward to the bootlegs of these shows to start rolling in.

Hot damn that's pretty much a perfect set-list, minus the exclusion of "Sometimes". and "Loomer" would've been rad too. oh well, I ain't gonna tell Lil' Kevvy Shields how to do his job. Can't wait for September 23rd!!!

what's written next to the songs?

B/TRACK = backing track, as in a melodic or even percussive loop playing behjnd the performance, serving as a click track, keeping the song on course.

TRIGG = drum trigger, probably if the drummer is playing a different instrument and needs a way to start the beat to a particular song.

REV = Mercury Rev ripped this song off, but fuck it, we still want to play it.

Fucking awesome set list, I can't wait for ATP. There are a few rather crappy-shaky vids already up on Youtube.
