Natalie Portman Raps: An SNL Digital Short

Posse: (What you want Natalie?)
Portman: To drink and fight!
Posse: (What you need Natalie?)
Portman: To fuck all night!

Kids who look up to her, Nat raps, "can suck my dick!"

Even Lazy Sunday haters will love Saturday Night Live's latest inevitable YouTube sensation.

UPDATE: Video! Somebody sign this chick.

UPDATE 2: NBC apparently got tired of all the YouTube removal requests. Watch it here.

It's not that we hated Lazy Sunday. It's that we couldn't understand why a silly little internet-style video became "THE FUNNIEST THING EVAR" just because Saturday Night Live attached its name to it. And, of course, what does SNL do when it finally stumbles onto something people think is somewhat amusing? Try to repeat the EXACT SAME FOMULA over and over and over again. "Durr... people thought it was funny when we did a rap parody? Hey I've got an idea: Let's do another rap parody!!!"

God love 'em.

I really don't know why I still watch. That was the only funny part of the show with the exception of Fall Out Boy who are amazingly bad. They could at least, you know, pretend to play their guitars. And throwing it at the end? Really nice touch.

P is for Portman. I guess that's where Diddy's P went too.

Fall Out Boy seemed far more concerned with rocking out than actually rocking. And when did their singer get fats?

Joey Headsets jaded hipsterspeak bothers me. for one, its 3 months later and they had a host who would be funny to do that sort of thing, might even have ASKED to do one. When Steve martin pulls a 'lazy sunday' we'll talk.

theres actually been plenty of good sketches on SNL this season, its just that the music related ones are the ones that are going to make the internet rounds on blogs such as this...

Just watched it. It's not really that funny. It tries hard... it sports a clever NWA reference, but it ultimately fails. But this is what happens when you try to generate humor just by repeating a formula - you run into diminishing returns.

And BTW, if not thinking SNL is funny makes me a "jaded hipster" - by all means, slap an LCD Soundsystem shirt on my back and grow me an ironic mustache. I'll wear them with pride.

Well, I will give them a little extra credit for a Sir Mix a Lot reference that doesn't involve "Baby Got Back". Clearly the "I wanna fuck you" live is borrowed from NWA's Gangsta, Gangsta.

Eazy-E: And all you bitches, you know I'm talkin to you.
Bitches: We want to fuck you Eazy!
Eazy-E: I want to fuck you too.

Are there any other non-obvious references in there?

I agree with Danielle: the fact that it was Natalie proba made it better than it was. It does seem like a take-off of Lazy Sunday (and it's moments aren't as funny as Sunday's big moments), but my friend and I were cracking up when we saw it "live" on the West coast.

I thought she was going to say "drink and f%^^%" when she said "drink and fight."

Whatever corporate suck-ass major label put this record out can't be thrilled with the singer dude's obvious penchant for Big Macs. Dude needs to mix in a few salads. He looks like Chunk from the Goonies with mutton chops.

I liked it but it wasn't hilarious. Lazy Sunday had me laughing more the first time I saw it. This one didn't even make me laugh out loud, I simply liked it because it was better than the rest of the show. That skit where they worked at that boost juice place made me lose a lot of respect for Portman, she was annoying as hell (and yes I know she was suppose to be but she went way too far). Weekend Update was pretty shit this week too.

I thought it was semi-amusing when I saw it, in a non-jaded way. It's the same SNL problem, they come up with something that's kinda funny, then run it into the ground for the next 5 minutes. I thought the best joke all night was Natty P as Sasha Cohen. The resemblence was uncanny, and the joke didn't get massively played out.

I think boingboing picked this up a year or so ago, the lonely island rap formula basically is a rehash of their pilot episode (actually even before that), there's really only so far you can drive that vehicle. Andy sanderberg is mildly funny, and it's got to be great for him being in the cast/ and having him and his friends basically being the backbone of the scraps of comedy that slip through SNL now, but honestly there's got to be some other comedians out there who can write a funny sketch? Because the last time I turned it on, it was kind of painful...it was pretty good in the 90's with ferrell and katan. Also, I know buddyhead made it cool to prefix with "Dude" but I'm pretty sure they're about as relevant as their music label is.

"Why do so many people associate having discriminating tastes or a hint of critical thought with "hipster cool points"?"

when it comes to humor, I couldnt trust a hipster opinion less. this is one arena where i think the stereotypical hipster opinion almost always annoys the shit out of me. they have preset ideas of mainstream anything, and almost all comedy is pretty mainstream, especially SNL. so when something funny comes along, even if they like it, they have to admit it with a qualifier, such as "but all other SNL sucks".

most indie music is kind of serious, so this attitude works okay (until a band with a sense of humor like the Darkness comes along, or until the White Stripes or Strokes, etc get too big)

basically, today - i hate hipsters because their sense of humor is shit, they cant turn off their brains to have any fun.

I've found that with genuinely GOOD comedy, it isn't necessary for me to turn my brain off to enjoy it. Honestly, if you think that all enjoyment of comedy must begin with a total cessation of mental activity, then I gotta ask: what ISN'T funny when you're (pretending to be) an idiot?

"why do people care if fall out boy's lead singer gained some weight?!? get over it."

Their performances were funnier than the Natalie Portman skit. Those dudes were jumping around like a bunch of poncy tarts. Their recycled stadium rock poses are beyond tired.

Isaace Brock carries a couple of extra pounds, but nobody cares because Isaac Brock is genuine and talented, unlike the assclown from FOB. Fall Out Boy dude is lame, so it is fun to make fun of his chubbiness.

Whatever, their fifteen minutes is about up, so it doesn't matter much anyway. Dude may as well get a head start on his bloated, washed-up phase.

Yeah, Fall Out Boy sucked no doubt and no matter how much black Patrick Stump wears he can't hide all of the Krispy Kremes he's packed away. Pete Wentz needs to learn that throwing your instruments stopped being cool around the same time as heroin and whatever their guitar player's name is should stand still so that he can fucking play. I mean, I don't give a crap about technical skill as long as you make good music, but fuck it dude, you aren't even trying.

Oh, did anyone notice that Arctic Monkeys are on next week? That was quick. Is it me or are they the most overhyped band since the Strokes? I've already noticed their critical praise flogging and I just hope this dies down as soon as possible.

the whole bit comes from an eazy-e song called no more questions.

and as it is pretty authentic to that NWA vibe, I'd say that this isn't much like Lazy Sunday at all. They may have had the idea for this bit BEFORE LS, by the way... the production value of this short is much higher.

They should have dropped the Samberg viking at the end... but "my d... is scared of you" is a classic line.

I thought that the hilight of the night was that Robert Smigel cartoon with Dennis Haysbert. It was the only thing that made me laugh at least. Why can't they shove that up on YouTube? And how come SNL has nothing against FOB's crappy performance being on YouTube?

Speaking of FOB, my friends and I were really bored and really immature yesterday and made a hundred fat jokes about Patrick Stump. Go to my Live Journal if you're vaguely curious. Now that I have my wits about me, none of it is funny to me, but hey worth sharing I guess.

Also, Ted drew a picture of Stump driving a Volvo with Ben Gibbard tied to the roof. It was funny, but my scanner was broken.

I mean skits were funny in 1975, but come on SNL you have done enough skits already.

We hipsters want something new skits was so played out.

SNL should try a new format of just showing watercolor painting with no sound.

That would be so cool and hip.

Here are the lyrics to her awesome rap. Its about 95% accurate I had some trouble understanding some of it. Enjoy mutha'fucka's! :P

CP: I’m here with film star Natalie Portman.
NP: Hello.
CP: So Natalie, what is a day in the life of Natalie Portman like?
NP: Do you really want to know?
CP: Please, tell us.

I don’t sleep mother fucker; off that ‘Gnac and that Bourbon
Doin’ 120, gettin’ head while I’m swervin’

Damn Natalie, you a crazy chick

Yo. Shut the fuck up and suck my dick
I’m bustin’ dudes mouths like gushers mother fucker
Roll up on NBC and smack the shit out Jeff Tucker

What you want Natalie?
To drink and fight
What you need Natalie?
To fuck all night

Don’t test when I’m crazy off that airplane group
Put my foot down your throat till your shittin’ my shoe
Leave you screamin’, pay for my dry cleanin’
Fuck her man it’s my name that he’s screamin’

CP: I’m sorry Natalie, are we supposed to believe you condone driving while intoxicated?

Pasty middle class honkies evidently think of gangstas as rather dark primordial sapiens sporting phalluses the size of redwoods, raping, mutilating and defecating as they spew tribal beat vitriol from their blow holes. Substituting Ann Frank as the instigator was mildly amusing, due to the incongruity.

I love NBC's intro on that new official Natalie Portman Raps page:

http://www.nbc.com/Video/videos/snl_1439_natalieraps.shtml

"Now, instead of searching the web for 'borrowed' NBC highlights, you can go to the source!"

Borrowed ... hmmm, whotube could they possibly be referring to?

Thanks for clearing that up Mike, thats the part I was really iffy about and after listening to the mp3 a couple of times she says "Say you're though" instead of what I previously wrote "So you’re through."

it's "gettin high while i'm swervin" not "coo'"
and "snorted all the Yay" not "sorted"

Gangsta rappers don't snort yay. They sell it. So sorting it makes not sense.

Also most usages of "yay" in gangsta rap refers to crack and not powder cocaine, ergo you can't snort yay.

Also I think the getting "____" while I'm swervin' line was originally getting head, but it is censored. I think it sounds more like coo' which is a shortening of cool. Which makes more sense because "high" is usually not used in reference to alcohol, but "cool" is used for any type of inebriation.

Provide me a reference to anybody saying that they are high off of alcohol in a gangsta rap. Or snortin yay.

Q: How many nerds does it take to get the lyrics right?

A: Who gives a rat's ass? The video is lame.

Natalie says "getting head while I'm swervin". Look at the clip. It's obvious. The "coo" sound is part of an "ooh" sound effect used to censor the real word. One of you has problems reading lips and tried to insert the word "high" instead of "head".

Also you have the opening line wrong.
CP says: "We're sitting" here today with film star Natalie Portman.

1. no rappers do cocaine? none?
i heard a gangsta rap yesterday CALLED "cocaine" that mentioned the rapper's sale of AND use of cocaine, not crack. the word "yay" is used at least twice.
2. using generalisations may make you feel smart, but it makes you seem stupid.
3. shut up, doppletwo.

The majority instances of "yay" in gangsta rap are about selling crack.

It's "snorted all the Yay"

'Yayo' was slang used for powder cocaine in "Scarface", but in rap lyrics it's used for most any drug traffic.

Reading about a bunch of nerds trying to get the lyrics right is almost as funny as the video. Reminds me of this movie quote, that I submit for your amusement:

"I cannot believe what a bunch of losers we are. We're looking up 'money laundering' in the dictionary!"

One more lyrical reference in the song is from Snoop Dogg's "DP Gangsta" featuring C-Murder

To all my bitches, I know your jocking my crew
[Girls]
We want to fuck you C
[C-Murder]
I want to fuck you too

So, I count three so far... Eazy-E's "No More ?'s", Snoop Dogg's "DP Gangsta" and Sir Mix-A-Lot's "My Posse's On Broadway"

I liked the Natalie Portman part, but Chris Parnell & the Retarded viking guy can go away. Chris Parnell is not funny. His rap/singing skits all are lame. Remember him singing about Demi Moore when Ashton was on & it became more about how if he were gay, he'd go for Ashton? Or his rap about Jennifer Garner when she was on? He's a one trick pony with a bum leg.

I saw this clip a few days ago on the nbc website, but my sound wasn't working and I had to reformat the harddrive and reinstall the sound programing, but that's not the point. The point is that I worship the ground that Natalie Portman walks on so just getting to see her was a treat enough for me.
