New Animal Collective - "Turn Into Something"

Animal Collective - FeelsIf you don't already like Animal Collective, Feels isn't going to change your mind. Don't get me wrong: it's amazing. But it lacks those stand-out WTF-tracks ("Leaf House", "We Tigers", etc) that I would play for anyone who loved music. It feels a lot tighter, though, and that's a trade I'm willing to make. Obviously, if you liked their earlier stuff, you're going to buy this one, but the rest of you get another chance to drink the Kool-Aid below.

(The Neo Rauch-esqe album cover is hot, too.)

Animal Collective - "Turn Into Something" (MP3 link removed)

Update: from a forthcoming EW story, unfortunately locked behind a login. AC says "Even our label was like, I think this one's gonna be a little tough for people to swallow."

At first I was wondering why it sounded like Bauhaus... then I remembered I forgot to turn the other music off first. Go me!

it's good, but still kinda bummed by it. doesn't have the impact and longevity i was hoping for. ultimately I've already forgotten about it and I've only had it for a month

Try as I might, I cannot bring myself to like Animal Collective. Black Dice or Lightning Bolt are another story, however. Gimme noise over that hippy, "my name is Panda Bear and I play the bongos" shit.

can we retire the phrase 'drink the kool-aid'?

'the purple bottle' is the jam on that record.

If any band has drugged kool-aid, it's Animal Collective.

i would say the album cover is more neo-darger...

playing bongos over hippy shit? haha

anyways, definately my album of the year. i agree the first two tracks alone are amazing. and the the third track. in fact, all of them. there arent standouts when you first listen maybe, as much as there are, but you'll really grow to love love love them after a listen or two. flesh canoe might be my song of the year and i couldnt listne to it at all when i first got it. this thing is an amazing example of their expansive knowledge of some good pop. this song probably isnt the song to have posted on here, but ooooh well.

For me, there are a few songs I like, but is not producing the raised-hackles that Sung Tongs did. "Purple Bottle" is the one I like. Also, doesn't the production sound really muddy? I know this might have been on purpose, but its really irritating.

Must be the excerpts I've been entering...sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Pro or con?

Well for this entry, I got "Thoughts on Animal Collective's new album, "Feels", and an MP3, "Turn Into Something"." instead of the first however many words of the entry. I'm not really pro or con either way, but I was surprised when I started seeing one line entries. I would prolly click through regardless...

I think this is the worst song from the album to be showing to people who haven't yet heard it. For those who want another "Who Could Win a Rabbit," is "Grass" not good enough?
Album of the year, album of the fucking decade, hands down.

Sounds like old Mercury Rev...
Looks like Henry Darger (spot on Bill P!)...
Smells like burnt rope.

Album of the year belongs to the Go Team!
Seriously.

Go Team wasn't the best album of last year nor is it for this year.
Banshee Beat is great.

It's all about "Bees". I think "Grass" might be a bit overrated already. Regardless, great album, one of the years' best, etc.
