Wow a wah wah pedal on a Tom Morello solo, I am shocked! Shocked I tell you!
Sounds like by the numbers mid-90s corporate rock. Depressing.

This is not original in any way. Sounds like it was ripped straight from the 70s, leaving a huge gap in the space-time continuum. Seriously, the band has fallen so rapidly since they became Audioslave. Bring back RATM.

Yes, i do detect some kind of unforunate 70's boogie influence going on.

Sadly enough, as far as commercial "modern rock" goes this is actually much better than most, i.e. staind, three doors down etc. This is such a hurting category right now i almost can't blame them for aiming low and creating moderately entertaining radio rock.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chris Cornell, Rage Agaist the Machine, Green Day...how long are the same three or four bands going to maintain their stranglehold on the "modern rock" demographic?? A few years ago it looked like they were starting to give some "weirder" things a chance (White Stripes, Franz), but that initiative seems to have died. Why is the state of radio rock music so pathetic?

Wow, you all sure whine a lot. Oh, it's too corporate, oh, he is ripping off the 70s, blah, blah.

EVERY band rips off a sound or a riff from somewhere else. I think that single sounds good. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but at least don't act like Cornell sux b/c he is famous and you aren't.

And it's so frustrating because Cornell would be better suited to virtually anything else. The man would sound more at home dueting with Shania. Listen to that! I'm in awe of his lungs. He belts these songs like they never went out of style, like he's still got that curly Louder Than Love-era mane thrown back and glistening, like he wants to shake the studio to its very foundation with the power of all his gristled fury-- when all of a sudden, the effects kick in and morph his voice into a fucking sitar! It just might be the most ridiculous and ill-timed production trick of his career. And all I can picture is Cornell high-fiving Rick Rubin and hitting the beach to play volleyball with Creed.

Duck, because America's gonna vomit.

Whoa whoa whoa... everyone here is sure down on these guys. What band currently making music even comes close to Audioslave? These guys have been around for a long time, and they aren't that young anymore. I'm sure they want to try doing different types of music over the years.

The funky-heavy thing works. I'd take this any day over all the other current heavy bands with vocalists that sound like they're vomiting when they sing. Yep, it's ok to feel good while you're rocking out... you don't need to pretend to be an evil screaming demon to rock.

I got something to say. They have lost all touch just heard that ridiculous Original Fire. The 70 funk is worse than their POP influenenced second album which had one maybe two songs i cared for. But when the group first formed and released its debut cd it was well more than amazing. I loved the hard rifts and easy blend of interesting vocals. Plus the shit just got me amped like a had a case of Red Bull. The debut had songs that will forever be written into Post metal grundge era. I guess thats all i can say for a band that promise when it was RageGarden instead of Audioslave.

Fuck the haters! If these guys wanted to keep making politically-charged rap-metal, they would hav e stayed as RATM. I love that there's a band out there that is making music that is catchy but still technically proficient and ROCKS. I love the funk influence (Rage, after all, because of their rhythm section was always a funk band with a metal guitarist and a hip-hop vocalist), I only hope the whole album is this funky!

alright...this is crazy...you've heard one song off of their cd and just dissing it like it's the worst stuff ever. There's no one that can sing like Chris Cornell. Cornell has a unique voice that I will always enjoy listening to. Tom Morello is a unique guitarist that I will always enjoy listening to. The first album was a lot different from the second one. And this album, if this song is like the rest, is different from the first 2 albums....so what? they're doing something different each time..? They're being they're unique selves. Who else can you say is putting out different sounds each time they come out with a record? Not only that, but are you not listening to these lyrics....it said The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on...have you ever thought that that means the original fire is the 70's funk and they're saying it's died off and the riot inside moves on...meaning that they can still feel the funk inside of them so they're making a song about it...? Or are you people just the people who listen to the first 10 secs. of the melody and see if you like it or not...? do the lyrics mean nothing to you? Are you the people that will listen to trash lyrics as long as it has a good beat? that's not music to me....Chris Cornell is a lyrical genius and all of his lyrics will always inspire me and I will always be impressed my the uniqueness of Audioslave...

who are these losers talking about the 'sad state of modern rock'... The radio will never change, it will always play the easy listening stuff because that is the stuff that appeals the largest audience. If you dont like it, do what i do, dont listen to it... fuck it. who cares. theres so much good rock out there and I think most of the time you have to search the underground for it, but so what... the best shit is not on the radio. Everyone knows that. And how can anyone on here cut up tom morello??? ..hes one of the most innovating guitarists of all time. Argue that, and you're an idiot. So he's a little more mellow now... big deal. He's got nothing to prove to you. Personally, i'm not a fan of the song either, but i'm over it. I dont start ranting about the sad state of rock when my expectations of a band arent met. All Audioslave ever talks about is how unhappy they were as band in RATM. They say the writing process was hell, and they werent enjoying themselves. They're happy just playing simple tunes now, and they're enjoying being a band. You're telling me thats a sad state of rock???...

audioslave has changed their sound everytime a new album has been released. i'm kind of glad they do, instead of having the same sounds and lyrics at every release. i believe that's a sign of true creativity and musicianship. although, their self titled album was the best and i don't think their new album will compare to it, i'll still buy it and enjoy it.

would you rather listen to the same songs regurgitated over and over? audioslave contain so much talent, how could you expect them not to experiment?

all of you who are so quick to cut loose your ties to a band the second they leave the 'cookie-cutter' image of their 1st album are no better than the money grubbing assholes signing record deals to get rich raping artists of their talent.

all of you guys are way to opisitional... anything is arguable. there are some objective traits to Audioslave's music and from those traits sprout opinions, but honestly anything is concievable. Audioslave has a certain hard rock aura yet they possess an extended, eclectic style. They touch on jazz, soul, R&B, and even the contemporary pop we listen to on the shit radio! Some influences appear more than others, but Audioslave is quite varied in their fashion and thats that. Personally, i think chris cornell has one of the most impressive voices in alternative/rock; i think his lyrics are well founded and sufficiently meaningful. I think that in the pool of disappointing, untalented "artists" out there today... audioslave rises to the top, QUITE distinguished. They, in my opinion, are definately not "crap"... not their music nor their lyrics... not their first album... not their second (out of exile) and i believe that this one won't be either.
I haven't heard this album (except for original fire) because i don't believe it is out yet; however, when stephen king comes out with a new novel, i assume (without reading it) that it is a decent thriller. I trust Audioslave's talent enough based on their previous performances (including soundgarden and RATM) to assume that this album will be just as pleasing...

this song is about hurricane katrina and the devastation that it incurred....

it's got a classic tom morello riff and is a rockin tune...certainly not the best song in the world, but far from the worst (and much better than most of what is released in today's market)...if you can't see that then there is obviously something wrong.

take the time to try to write a gitar riff, and try to make it work as a song. it's a lot harder than it sounds and takes a lo of talent. stop being so hard on the guys and give the music itself a chance...don't listen to something because you think it sounds catchy...take the time to enjoy the musicianship.

welllll, it's not the best Slave song I have heard but I would never trash them. The singles from the first two albums were nowhere NEAR the best songs on the record. It's clear to me after listening to "Original Fire" that, if nothing else, "Revelations" is going to be an improvement over "Out of Exile," at least in terms of rockingness. OOE should be considered a rehab album, since Cornell was still fighting his addictions to alcohol and cigarettes. As a result, we got strange, but interesting, numbers on the second half of the album that were lighter in tone from everything on the self-titled disk but still stood out from the singles dump in the first half ("Your Time Has Come" and "Be Yourself" are awful, and no one can change my mind about that; "Out of Exile" should have been the first single, hands down). I think the encouraging thing about "Original Fire," and the new album by extension, is that while Cornell now sounds like he has perpetual laryngitis (which probably isn't far off), he's using what he still has to high effect, as he did on "Euphoria Morning." I've been listening to some live tracks from 1996, after "Down on the Upside," 2000, during his EM tour, and from last year for the OOE tour. Ten years ago, he still had the ability, he was just too much of a drunkard to focus it. His voice went sharply downhill after the EM tour -- as cool as the self-titled Audioslave CD was, Cornell's vocals still sounded soaked in whisky -- and the cumulative effects were clear on last May's Live in Cuba DVD (a pretty sobering performance, no pun intended, for Cornell fans). Cornell can't do a lot of what he once was capable of. Along with age, drugs have pretty much decimated his voice. It's a fact everyone who likes Soundgarden and Audioslave for their vocals has to accept. And he's not going to improve by any significant measure. The key for him now is to do what he seems to be doing, which is to accept his limitations and blow people away with what he still has. His lung capacity is still awesome, and it shows on "Original Fire": He can be a crooner, but he can't revert back to metal-god mode. I, for one, am looking forward to his next solo CD, if only because I'm confident he'll stick to softer numbers that show off his ability to sing, not scream.

audioslave never releases thier best songs first so you have to assume that this original fire song is not the best song on the cd look at thier first cd the best song shadow on the sun was not even on the air , but was on a soundtrack even if this is the best song "which i strongly doubt" it is much more origanal than some of these new punk pussy 80's wannabe pop bands like greenday the killers angels n airwaves . these so called bands are polluting the hard rock airwaves and would be better suited on pop stations. original fire is better than 80% of todays crap on the air and although it is far from audioslave's best songs it is better than average at least they are original and chris cornell is one of the best vocalist around so to all the haters who or what is good music to you the fucking killers or greenday get alife losers

I've not yet heard the single but from the negative comments i read, am getting worried bout the music audience nowadays. The chemistry between two monsters of rock is undeniable. They fit in the minority of real rock n roll music nowadays. for you people who can't appreciate good music and lyrics, go listen to something else...

Audioslave is awesome. Sure, they will never live to be as great as soundgarden was. But they're 10 times better then Rage was. de la Rocha was a fag. Chris Cornell is the ultimate.

This is a really great song and anyone who says otherwise sucks ass. If you don't like a song, why do you come write all this pessimistic crap on a site? What the hell is wrong with you guys! This is a really REALLY GREAT KICKASS song! Everyone who liked the song has great taste in original music, but everyone who didn't, are just a bunch of pessimistic losers who should just go sit in a corner and drown in their own criticism.

"Have you ever heard chris cornell's take on killing in the name" hmmm....well for one, ratm sucked bcuz of the lame rapping which poses a problem for all "musicians" that have posted on this sight: rap takes no talent. Chris Cornell's rap on that terrible song is as good as some four year olds. At least in the Cornell bands there is something called a vocalist...who sings...which is their job...not to rap like Zack whatever the fuck roacha. And Original Fire is a good song..if it sounds like 70's stuff thats good, cause...well hello, what has sold more music, your terrible ratm shit...or every band that has influenced this song divided by 2000...im pretty sure its the 70's bands...thats what people like, thats what sounds good, so all the more power to ya audioslave play what people buy and like.

One song and everyone is making such a fuss over the entire album. If anyone has actually watched the "Revelations" interview, the band stated that there was going to be a change from their usual style. They admitted to more funk grooves on this album, similar to the band Earth,Wind,Fire and Led Zeppelin. Change is good. Sounds a lot better than most of the music that is being churned out of the radio these days.

The band wants to mix it up a little and not produce the same songs over and over. Part of being a music artist is being able to explore all possibilities of your music and not just trying to sell more records. And yes, the record will sell well and they'll put out another album. Try and explore your own musical tastes and see if its something worth buying (Previews on ITUNES!!).

Frankly I like it, its not singing about how sad, tough, or depressing life is. Its upbeat and has a good rythm. They are doing what they like now anyway, and i'm glad they are.

I, like some of you, are a BIG fan of RATM, Soundgarden and Audioslave, and I think "The Original Fire" is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. It has a good beat, Chris C. vocals are fabulous (he's the best!!!!), and he's sounding better than ever. It's a good tune, with a good beat, and it's a good song to get you started in the morning.
However, many of you posting on this site have not offered any constructive criticism of the new album. All I see, and read here, are comments from a bunch of whiny ass punks who probably got tired of spending all their free time jacking off on MySpace.com and felt the need to come here and slam the albumn and the band. I also think most of you could have gotten your point across without interjecting certain expletives. This just shows a certain level of immaturity, and most of you wouldn't even know good music if it hit you in the face.
THIS IS A BAND WHO HAS BEEN MAKING GREAT MUSIC FOR YEARS! And I hope for many of us, it will continue. If you don't like what you hear, go back to your RATM and Soundgarden and live in the past. Audioslave will move forward, with or without you along with thousands of fans WHO DO appreciate their music. Something with many of you obviously DO NOT!

rock in general is the greatest music.

green day cannot possibly be called rock... or if they must be then they are terrible at what they do, they are just punks trying to make it in a new way, not even punks.
rock can never die! unless it is slaughtered by emos and punk/rock wannabe's. bands like the sex pistols should be put up in a hall of fame dedicated solely to those musicians who were outstanding.
