New Babyshambles - "Arebours" and "Up The Morning"

Pete Doherty, by Tim BurtonThanks to an anonymous college music journalist in Dublin (is what I heard), I've got the whole damn Babyshambles album, Down In Albion, and it's pretty great, although it took a couple listens to get into the damn thing. I want to post all of it, but, as before, a few minutes' work with Technorati or Icerocket should give you some solid leads.

Babyshambles - "Up The Morning" (MP3 link expired)

Babyshambles - "Arebours" (MP3 link expired)

In related news, Kate Moss has denied Pete Doherty permission to visit her in rehab, saying she'd only see "people close to her". Maybe it has something to do with Babyshambles' manager having to deny leaking the footage of her doing coke to the press. Awk! Ward! Come on, who'd get that mad about spilling a little booze on the console?

Maybe he's in the new "28 Days" sequel. But I can't tell if it's the one with Sandra Bullock in rehab or the one about zombies.

and i'm a big fan of both the libertines and babyshambles, but i found these tracks to be pretty weak.

strangely enough the track with kate moss: "la belle et la bête (the beauty and the beast)" is the best track on this album. the rest of the record's better than expected. now we gotta wait for "dirty pretty things," carl barat's new band.

"la belle et la bête" is a great track, but I figured everyone would put that up...am I the only one that thinks "Up The Morning" is hot?

i've heard the whole thing, and the entire album is really weak. there are much better versions floating around than the half-assed ones on the album. "la belle et la bete" was a better song minus la moss, and when it was called "conversation diva". "up the morning" desperately wants to be pavement, and there's another track on the album that's a direct ripoff of the la's' "there she goes". unlike other bands, they're not even any good at hiding where they're stealing from.

very disappointing studio effort, methinks. thank god for carl's band. their live bootlegs, as poor quality as the recordings are, are much better than this.

I love how out of control Doherty is. I think its because there aren't enough rock stars that are so publicly fucked up. I'm nostalgic for those days.

It just goes to show you--if you play a guitar, it doesn't matter how much of a waste of space you are, you can still bang models.

I'm jealous.

and yes i agree.. carl's band is much better.. i think when doherty and him split doherty lost the force that gave a reality check to his music

I have heard the entire album too and its amazing! "La Belle.." is the best song on the album along with "back from the dead" but also some other great songs! And im sorry as for them previous comments, ha ha, Carl is great but he's not even close to being as good as Pete! thats like saying Macca is better than Lennon! BABYSHAMBLES FOREVER!!!!!

Although I do love paragraphs that somehow avoid the use of periods all together.

They completely ruined Albion...I don't see what's so great about La Belle et La Bete. I guess it's probably because I never liked that song in its previous versions. The vocal seems to be floating on top of melodies instead of intertwining with it, like it's echoeing around... eh

I find Johnny Hassall's(the bassist from The Libertines) band Yeti quite amazing and I have yet to hear more from Dirty Pretty Things.....

oh and if anyone is interested, go to albionarks.com to download Libertines-related stuff.

well the only "dirty pretty things" material out right now are poor quality live bootlegs but from what you can hear, musically it's more akin to libs' classics like "death on the stairs." i agree with a previous poster that carl gave pete the reality check he needed but pete also put that breath of honesty and passion to balance carl. yeti is excellent as well, like a 60's psychedelia.

Oh Pete. I can even give a real opinion of what I think of him. I went through a period where I'm like "Damnit Pete get your f---ing life together" --post-Libertines break-up. Sometimes I still feel kinda guilty listening to Babyshambles... I feel like I'm betraying Carl in a way. Odd, eh?

You know, on the other hand Pete is entertaining in the fucked-up rockstar kind of way. Maybe that's his one string of charm - his utter lack of control.

~Please ignore the first post I did. I don't understand why it posted that one. Ah well.

you guys just cant wait to hate on what will be a massive smash! the babyshambles tracks are fucking brilliant! honest lyrics and full of that unpolished vulnerability almost every band lacks these days!!! the fucking closest you're going to get to a new smiths! but hey, i guess everyone would rather listen to empty, overproduced, popsicle poptarts like bloc party, franz, or diamond nights these days... pete doherty is f-ing brilliant and the only real rock star we have right now -- hangups, trainwrecks, poetry and all!

FYI,
Kate Moss is not in therapy as one is lead to believe, but is still in London. How do I know? I bumped into her at an (undisclosed) London nightclub. Just thought I'd put that out there...
P.S.
Models diet= coffee/cigarettes/cocaine...it's quite amusing how some people are acting so shocked about it, and it is quite unfair to blame Kate for what is an industry wide 'problem'...

libertines were a great band, a true classic. babyshambles are a shambles, pete is the only talented one. if he'd made a solo album with backing from actual musicions and made some sort of effort, and didnt have mick 'press record and do a bunch of coke' jones producing this much ancticipated pile of shite then it could have been a true true classic. but its horrible, its like a gypsy skag ska band playing horribley un-flowing skiffle. im glad i didnt pay for this. doherty had everything and pissed it away.

Listen all including Pete,

Pete you're not a bad lyricist but you have such a long way to go...Concentrate on the music kid, you're in serious danger of believing your own hype and being part of a wannabe scene-Queens of Noize- that has little to do with creativity and the soul.

Be true to yourself, stop trying to be working class we all know you're not and also stop using asian references ie Bala Chadha etc I am asian and loads of us find it embarrassing you're jumping on to a bandwagon, you'll be quoting 'It ain't alf mum next' Be Real Pete

Such snobs ! Seriously, if we just focus on the music for a moment and not all the peripheral shenanigans. Down in Albion is hands down "brilliant". Sure it takes a few listens to get into, but what decent album doesnt. Either way - you tossers who bag it out wouldnt be happy. Well im happy and im wishing this album the best of luck it deserves. There are tracks on there that fall away a bit, but the quality ones are so much that. Good on you Pete (and Co.), this is a remarkable album and truly worth some adulation.

Will you all just get over the Pete & Kate thing. Seriously !

You're easily pleased Jase, he's only using about a tenth of his potential - The way to judge the album is by imagining it's from an unsigned band, forget the hype- would you be so interested then...thats what you should be asking yourself....

The state of music at the moment for the most part is pretty dire, people are so busy creating their own little cool groups and sounds and scenes , i suppose babyshambles have a following but what i notice about these people is they dont have to shout and make big noises about nothing to disguise the fact that the musical "group/Fraternety" they belong to does nothing but brude on its own self important "very boring, very unromantic/unoriginal,very fashionable" state of Pathetic Limbo. Trying to be the coolest/Cleverest band never works, you just end up with uninspiring music thats as dull as dish water and sounds that way in 5 years time. the babyshambles album is DIY like punk used to be basically i think its a load of the best most soulfull parts of their tunes thrown together which isnt perfect but its more exciting than anything test icles will do.......Babyshambles Fan in MCR.....INNit

pets new album proves that he was not the most talented in the libertines. just like oasis theres only one true talent which is noel. he has the best voice writes da best songs and has da best attitude.

pete doherty is brilliant, just think, if you showed off your talent and became famous for wouldnt you carry it on?! i say fair play to the guy, yeah he might have a drug addiction, that is his buisness, its the music that counts, why do you think hes so famous? and why has his album gone in to the top 10 in the first week of its release!
pete is a talented person in his own right, and produces some heartfelt, true music that touches some people in a way. to all that posted, he is beautiful, your right he might be off his head in most of the pictures, but there IS something about him. just remember like all of us, he is a human being with feelings, not a 'waste of space junkie, that has no talent' if you turned it around we could say the people who right this kind of stuff are impertinent, narrowminded, heartless people who have nothing better to do than slag off talented people, hurts dosent it? i think you should take a look back and realise your talking about a human being here, you dont have to like his music, fair enough, just have a bit of respect for the fact that he has got this far and fair play to him.

“Down In Albion” is a true masterpiece in the same sense that Syd Barrett’s “The Madcap Laughs” is. It has brutally honest lyrics and amazing melodies that, admittedly, may be hard to find when you first listen to the album. Anyway, that just adds to the overall charm of this superb album. I think people’s problem with it is that it is not a conventional album in the same way that “Madcap” wasn’t. Given time I think this album will be called a classic album. If, like someone above has said, this was recorded with professional session musicians (Patrick was a session musician anyway) then I think it would have crushed the soul of the album. The vulnerability present in songs like “Up The Morning” and “Merry Go Round” is inspiring. I think everyone who dislikes this album should give it another chance, at least.
