New Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Weapon Of Choice"

BRMC's been telling anyone that'll listen that their new record Baby 81 is a shift back to their rock roots after going folkie blues-rock on their last one, and though "Weapon Of Choice" starts with that same Howlish acoustic, it's quick to build into a full throttle rocker. But instead of returning to Jesus And Mary Chain, it sounds like the guys have been listening to A LOT of Scott Weiland. Listen to it at blackrebelmotorcycleclub.com, where you can also hear "666 Conducer," which sounds something like the acoustic cousin of B.R.M.C.'s "White Palms." No STP on that one. Audio snatchers, MP3 us! (Thanks, Ryan!)

Sneaky BRMC, changing those links. ;)

Someone in their camp is doing their job; Pollstar says the band isn't currently on tour.

the only way i was able to listen to the tracks was through the link in the email they sent me. apparently they're only letting pple on their email list listen to the tracks perhaps? good to hear some solid rock n roll again. rare these days.

Jesus and Mary Chain are playing Coachella.
BRMC, please clean out your desks.
No amount of copping the styles of bands other than the Mary Chain will keep you afloat.

Howl is a very tough album to follow, and although I didn't expect much from the BRMC camp for Baby 81, the two songs that have been "leaked" are promising.

I don't think "Weapon of Choice" is their best song, but I also don't think it should be compared to anything related to Scott Weyland.

"666 Conducer" is a real treat, although it was recorded shortly after the Howl sessions, which explains the sonic similarity to that album.

I'm personally a huge JAMC fan and I really don't understand the comparisons that BRMC has received since they debuted on the scene 8 years ago. The only JAMC album that comes even REMOTELY close to BRMC's sound is Automatic (or maybe Honey's Dead). But those are just vague similarities. I think the only "copping of styles", as Wesley so brilliantly put it, is Robert Levon Been's blatant haircut style courtesy of Jim Reid.
