New Bloc Party LP Intimacy Is Out In Three Days

thumbnail icon: New Bloc Party LP Intimacy Is Out In Three Days

It's been awhile since Bloc Party reminded everyone how good Gang Of Four were, with their highly impressive debut Silent Alarm. Since then the band has served to remind everyone how good Silent Alarm was, with A Weekend In The City and etc. But all that might change in just three days. According to the press release:

Bloc Party's third album, 'Intimacy' will be available August 21. It can be pre-ordered now via the band's website: http://www.blocparty.com.

The album will also be available as a CD which will be delivered from October 27 and feature additional songs. Anyone pre-ordering the CD will also receive the digital album from August 21...

The album produced by Paul Epworth (Silent Alarm) and Jacknife Lee (A Weekend in the City) was recorded in Kent and London. Some songs are Bloc Party at their most wildly experimental, while other tracks are simply classic Bloc Party, fitting in seamlessly amongst fan-favourites 'Helicopter', 'Banquet' and 'So Here We Are'.

They know which songs the fans like. This is encouraging. The first single ... not as much. Fingers crossed! There's a tour coming -- dates are here.

As close to an apology as we're ever going to get?

Marc-I have every song and b-side and remix from Bloc Party. Mercury is terrible. Just sayin'.

Don't be so cynical Amrit!! Bloc Party are one of the most exciting and talented pop bands out there. A Weekend in The City was misunderstood (it gets better every time you listen to it, I should know, I've listened to it a thousand times) and Mercury is a thrilling and thrillingly produced departure.

I'll admit I didn't care for Mercury the first time I hear it. I was annoyed that bloc party would shit in the direction they did. I felt like they were just trying to jump on the growing popularity of electro/electro influenced music. After a few more listens, the song became a disease. I couldn't stop listening to it. I think once I got over the fact that I wanted more Silent Alarm type music from them, I learned to love Mercury. It's no surprise though that they're shifting into a less conventional form, they were formed with a lot of help from Steve Aoki if I'm not mistaken....

i love this new way of releasing albums. i think it should become the new standard. when a band completes a record they should be able to release it when they want. having intimacy be available in 3 days is just awesome

Can someone please explain the whole surprise record release thing to me? With Radiohead it made sense because, since they were essentially giving their album away, they could afford to surprise everyone and thereby forego the hastles of a pro-longed promotion period.

BUT, if you're selling the album at regular price and expecting/relying on a profit, you need that promotion or you won't possibly sell as many records. These bands are deliberately tanking there record sales, are they not? And for what? If you want everyone to get the album at the same time, invest in a vault.

And "Mercury" reminds me of how good Flux and A Weekend In The City was. Let's hope this album has better songs.

i was never that impressed with silent alarm and saw bloc party live on that tour an was underwhelmed. that being said i thought weekend in the city was a great album. so many people in the indie world hate on bands for not making the same album again (many disagree with me but i thought the new interpol was better than antics). it's like bands either get dissed for making the same album again or get dissed for not making the same album again. the new Islands is very good also!!

I ordered it. I haven't listened to Mercury all the way through yet at all, but I really loved their first two albums so how bad could this be?

... Right?

I still don't get the Gang of Four comparisons. Franz Ferdinand is Gang of Four. Bloc Party is not.

i thought foals were the new gang of four?

if this album is going to be full of flux's and mercury's then fuck it.

Foals = more like the new Minus The Bear rather than the new Gang of Four.

'Mercury' is brilliant. But I never really cared for Silent Alarm. I heard too many other bands in their music then. I don't hear anybody but Bloc Party on 'Mercury' and it's wonderfull flipside, 'Idea For A Story'. Can't wait for the album.

Saw them at lolla...more like fell asleep on the grass while they were playing at lolla. That mercury song is rubbish, and if Slient Alarm didn't blow people away then they wouldn't be playing so much off of that album when they toured.
