Before anyone jumps down my throat for what I'm about to say, let me preface it by saying that I think this movie is going to be hilarious.
I just want to throw out an exhortation to people not to form any opnions on the actual Kazakhstan based on this movie. The fact is that Borat's Kazakhstan resembles the real Kazakhstan to about the same extent that a woolly bear caterpillar resembles an actual bear. Which is to say, basically not at all. Even Cohen says that Borat is based off of a Russian doctor he once met. The truth of the matter is that though the US gets to bear the brunt of the mockery (and that's going to be awesome, if the clips I've seen are any indication), this would be just as funny if it were, for example, a made up former Soviet republic instead of Kazakhstan.
So, I understand the concerns that the Kazakh Government has (and it's either Kazakh or Kazakhstani, folks, "Kazakhi" as they say in Kazakh, eshkim aitadi (nobody says). Kazakhstan's trying really hard to get international cred, and this movie is simply counteractive to that when it doesn't have to be to do what it sets out to do.

The thing is, Borat although a fictional character, has to have a degree of credibility when entering interviews. If he simply made up a location then whoever was booking the interview or even the interviewee could call him out on it. With his character barely clinging on to believable he needs all he can get to sell the person.

I saw a pre-screening of the Borat movie on Wednesday night at 7pm. His ice-cream truck from the movie was driving around NYC and handing out free posters and tickets.
