New Broken Social Scene: "7/4 Shoreline"

I'm underwhelmed on first listen but it could be a grower.

Broken Social Scene - "7/4 Shoreline" (ZIP)
Previously dubbed Windsurfing Nation, the CD will now be self-titled. Featuring cameos from K-OS and lead Dear Murray Lightburn, it's out 10/4 on Arts & Crafts (obvs).

Also worth a listen: Raising The Fawn (featuring BSS' John Crossingham). They're flying in from Toronto for Gothamist's Movable Hype 4.0 on 8/22. Daily Refill has an MP3.

Related BSS News: Dave Newfeld is healing nicely.

Isn't that the linked live version on Canadian TV from the BSS official site?

They played that song at Intonation and it sounded pretty good.

there is a webrip (from amazon.com) of Plans around, pretty good record. not as good/moving as the last 2, but still a very good record imo, and i was a bit unsure going in.

Crooked Teeth is one of my faves songs of theirs already i think.

not gonna pretend i'm way ahead of stereogum, but my media player says i downloaded that in january, but no idea where i got it from. its a bit of a change of style too, nothing like that would have fitted on you forgot it in people? quite poppy, bit like the honeymoon if anyone knows them?

song for broken social scene by
anna sofia canning

A STEP DAUGHTER

My mom put me in foster care.
my dad took off before I was born.
My grandad died,
then grandma moved in with mom so why couldn't I.
Then mom met another man.
He was good to her.
Then she had two more girls.

CHOROUS
I was the step daughter
I always felt like an outsider
being shoved from foster home to foster home
I felt like I didn't belong
I had a different surname
I never met my real dad
Something wasn't quite right
lifes just not fair 3 times

I loved my 2 half sisters but i become jealous
with envy. all I wanted to do was cry.
The anger took me on a high.
When I was on a high
I would break into a store
or commit a crime
Then my heart would start beating
I was awake and alert
Then the police would come and arrest me
Then I would start weeping
the quick adrenal rush would turn into a feeling
of guilt and despair
life is just not fair
CHOROUS
mY MOM would bail me out.
My step dad would shake his head with dismay
he never said anything
We drove home in the car
and never said a word
the silence was deafening
mom began to cry
'sorry mom I said
'why did you do that why? mom asked
if only she knew why
CHOROUS
I just wanted to be part of the family
i hated being shoved from foster home to another
foster home.
The foster families all seemed nice
But once the money ran out they threw me back
into foster care
CHOROUS
Why couldn't he be my real dad
why didn't he make me feel but of the family.
Why did I have a different surname
My step dad was a strict man but he was a
good man
I just was too young to understand
