New Charlotte Gainsbourg - "5:55 (Black Ghosts Remix)"

Just how sexy is Charlotte Gainsbourg? Well, her pop's Serge, her mom's Jane Birkin, she's a "celebrated French actress," and then there's this leggy press photo we happened upon.

More importantly -- this is a music blog, after all -- how sexy is "5:55"? Gainsbourg had Air write the music, Nigel Godrich produce, Jarvis "Seductive Barry" Cocker pen the lyrics, Afrobeat legend/The Good, The Bad and The Queen member Tony Allen lay down a beat … and she says "again and again" again and again all out-of-breath and saliva-like.

The dusky piano 'n' string lullaby's the title track of Gainsbourg's second record, her first since her 1986 debut Charlotte For Ever. This Monday "5:55" will be released as a 7" single/download with additional remixes by Brighton electro artiste Metronomy (who's had his way with Franz Ferdinand, the Gorillaz, the Klaxons, etc. and turns this track into an icier, tension-filled series of pulsations that flow into a coolly funky exeunt) and UK buzz crew Black Ghosts (folks from Simian and the Wiseguys). But Ghosts' Cornelius-y take is our runaway fave. Maybe it's the upfront bass, tinkling bells, lovely arpeggios, slightly TV On The Radio backup sighs, or that they transform a paean to loneliness into a warmer post-emo call 'n' response.

"5:55" is out 8/6 on Because Music.

"This is a music blog after all"?
About as much as MTV is a music network.

Jesus Christ, can you seriously disable the comments section on this site? Or offer some kind of application that can provide me with the willpower to stop clicking the "Read More" links?

I don't know; it's not as sexy as "505". Probably cause of the extra 5.

with the number of musical celebrities on this song, i wonder how much of this song is "her". Im still going to pick up the record though.

5:55 is an amazing album. This is what pop music should be, but sadly isn't. Not by a longshot. Pure sex and pure perfection.

Stereogum actually has music videos, so it's already beating MTV there.
