New Clientele - Strange Geometry

Keep an ear out for new shimmery pop nuggets from the Clientele, who some of you may have seen open for Spoon this year. The band's lush I Love The '60s vibe should be welcomed by fans of fellow Britpoppers Alfie and Cousteau, not to mention anyone who liked Clientele's last two LPs. For Strange Geometry's dreamy string arrangements, the band got a hand from French singer/songwriter Louis Philippe. The more I listen the more I'm certain this is my favorite Clientele album.

The song I'm posting, "Since K Got Over Me," opens the album. Track four is also about "K." The lady behind this mysterious monogram apparently left our Clientele friend pretty brokenhearted. But he got some lovely tunes out of it.

The Clientele - "Since K Got Over Me" (MP3 Link Removed)

Listen closely for a subtle nod to Phil Spector one minute in (think "Then She Kissed Me"). In fact, Clientele love the '60s so much they slapped Paul Delvaux's 1963 painting "The Viaduct" on the album cover.

"Since K Got Over Me" was recently released on 7" with covers of Skip James' "Devil Got My Woman" and Spacemen 3's "I Believe It." I really wanna hear those if anyone's got MP3s.

I too would like to hear the Spacemen 3 cover, but what I'm really excited about is the ad to the right for the new Sarah McLachlan remix CD. That's gonna be off the hook, boy-eeeeeeee!

"Since K Got Over Me" is about Ketamine. Fact.
"everything is so lucid and so creepy...

Cool sounding track and love that 60's production feel to it. Reminds me of an era long gone and sorely missed. Loved the beauty of their 2003 release "The Violet Hour" and look forward to listening to the rest of this new one. Also love to hear that Spacemen 3 cover..... see if i can track it down.

Anyone else get an REM feel from this song. Besides the guitar, I get a vision of Michael Stipe singing this song.

But I am also listening to this track from my computer at work right now.

I noticed that. Funny. Of course the Aislers' Set had a song utilizing that little trope, too. Not too bad. Sounds a little like the Go-Betweens. This guy's voice has always reminded me of John Lennon. I'm not a fan of mixolidian melodies for the most part. An example of one that works is "I Am Waiting" from.....is it "December's Children"? I can never remember. Anyway, it was one of The Stones' better pre-Beggars Banquet albums. They use that mode nicely in the verse but then go back to the regular major (tonic) for the "chorus". Nice release of tension. This is just a little dull.

that cover art looks a lot like Paul Delvaux paintings. Anyone know who did the artwork for the album?
