New Counting Crows - "You Can't Count On Me"

Unfortunately not a cover of the My Two Dads theme song (that was "You Can Count On Me," what's wrong with you). Fortunately, though, somewhat satisfying our continuing curiosity with the return of the Duritz. This is probably the Sunday Mornings side of things, which is probably the safer mode for them. Pretty good tune, sounds like Sunday brunch, mostly -- really high cymbal mix and piano in the verses, nice for the hungover hangdog emoting that is likely Adam's real-life specialty. (Heads up: autostart upon jumping...)

They've been a punchline for awhile, but on the strength of this and Cowboys," we're pretty sure they'll bait some of their closeted fans back out on the street for a spell. As long as they lay off this stuff.

Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings is out 3/25 on Geffen/Interscope.

UPDATE: Counting Crows playing a "secret show" at Bowery Ballroom this Sunday 2/10. Ticket info here.

Even Conor Oberst grew up. What's this guy's problem?

Great song. I think it's called writing from the soul is what his problem is. Remember the whole album is revolved around the highs of Saturday nights and the lows of Sunday morning, with regret in the middle. I know they should be like Feist and count numbers like on Sesame Street.

I think this is one of the better songs I've heard off the new album so far. It's kind of weird to release it as a single, but the band didn't have any control over which one was going to be released first.

And I think "Come Around" is actually a pretty strong song. Maybe not as strong as "Cowboys", but better than almost anything on This Desert Life, and probably Hard Candy (although I do love "Holiday In Spain").
