Thanks Aaron.
Doesn't look like myspace wants to be friends with my mac.
Score = 0
Hmm, strange, AndrewT. Wants to be friends with mine. 'Course, mine DOES put out...that could have something to do with it.
Anyway, like the song. Looking forward to the album.
Score = 0
weak lyrics...weak production....they should just get Dntel to make all there music. i feel bad for them...it sounds like 3rd rate pop. like some back street boy's solo album with indie whinyness as opposed usher-emulating nasalness
Score = 0
woo, i like. so k, i have a question for all you neat people. first i will preface it by saying i live in a country bumpkin town in south georgia while my husband serves our country so i am very out of the loop on music currently. where do you guys find these bands? do they actually have radio play? now i have heard of death cab for cutie but not much more. please help. i can't take too much more of southern rap and country music... i'm dying really.
Score = 0
WEAK production? i wouldn't say it's weak... i'd say its really, really overproduced though. if everything on the album is like this - or if this is the single - then this is going to be a horrible album.
Score = 0
oh god, that myspace site says its the single.
puuuuuuuuuke.
Score = 0
oh please
you'll wank off all over phoenix for having that fm-style glossy production but OMG an INDIE band does it
PUKE
Score = 0
It's okay. You holier than thou "indie" people make me sick. The fact of the matter is that if this was a track off the Photo Album people would have totally dug it, but because they are on the OC now it's shit. Grow up.
Score = 0
Death Cab were always vanilla, weren't they? I don't know. Way too bland for my taste, but there are plently of indie bands with production just as slick.
Score = 0
I'm in no rush to hear the song (because I'm sure once it comes out it's going to be inescapable) but what's the beef about the production? Chris Walla produced it, not some big-time $1,000,000 per record major-label honcho. So now they have a bigger recording budget and can experiment a bit more, what's the big deal?
Score = 0
I didn't notice the more produced sound quite as much as the fact that Ben needs to lay off the helium.
The ending also seems a bit unresolved. Sort of like they were searching for some way to finally end the thing.
Score = 0
New song is hot, haters. Can't wait for the CD. It doesn't sound like Postal Service because it's not the Postal Service, that's the sweetness of it. They're both awesome in their own little ways. :) Holla.
Score = 0
>The fact of the matter is that if this was a track >off the Photo Album people would have totally dug >it, but because they are on the OC now it's shit.
I think most people are reacting to the overproduction, not the popularity. It doesn't bother me personally that they're an "OC band" now. I still dig The Shins and Pinback, for instance. What bothers me is how the new production makes Death Cab sound so bland and uninspired. The vocals sound more buried, which is a shame, because Ben Gibbard's distinctive voice is one of the best things about the band. The lyrics are pretty blechhh. The tune is simply okay, nothing great. And now they just sound like Clarity-era Jimmy Eat World, but not as lush (or good). Transatlanticism showed them tiptoeing away from originality, and this new track doesn't sound all that promising for Plans...
Score = 0
Holding this bland offal up to their earlier work (Something About Airplanes, We Have the Facts, The Photo Album (sort of), etc.) is downright depressing. This descent into boring 4/4 pablum is approaching a disaster of Weezer-esque proportions! All the quirkyness mixed with awesome lyrics and poppy melodies that wormed their way into your brain for days on end that made their early albums so charming and addicting is gone. What happened to these guys??? One listen to Facts way back when and I was hooked for months. One listen to this song and I don't think I ever want to hear it again. TERRIBLE!

woah there zach... its one song you miserable bastard. give the boys a chance.

You guys spend too much time finding perfect music, because your expectations are rising so high that you will become increasing dissatisfied with music as time passes. Instead of finding things to praise about this song, you all focus on the negative things. If you guys like music so much, embrace it in a different way.
Score = 0
quite honestly i'm not impressed, not because of their increased popularity, but because the vocals sound whiny and it sounds blander than ever. just because someone doesn't like something, it doesn't always have to do with increased popularity or them being a snob. everytime a band goes mainstream and someone doesn't like their music, are you going to credit it to that?
Score = 0
really awesome site.
I should probably comment more often but I would be thrilled if you wanted to write for my rebel-pitchfork media which will be up soon.

I am a big DeathCab fan, and I am not trying to be an "indie" snob, because god knows I love all different types of music, but I just don't think this is the best DeathCab could squeeze out.
Especially for a single.
Score = 0
It's a fine song. Usually 'singles' are by no means the 'best' track on a disc anyway.
men who hate death cab are funny. I quote John Lennon:
Look out Babe, I'm just a jealous guuuuuy!
Score = 0
It doesn't matter if they were on the O.C. most bands listed on this site have been on "that show" this is what they do for a living you couldn’t ask for a better promotional vehicle than television.
I music wise I love the Something About Airplane album the most mostly because it reminds me of another great Gibbard induced band all-time quarterback.

The phrase "rebel Pitchfork Media" should not exist.
Score = 0
Pitchfork hating is Soooo tired. Really. It's such an annoying, cliched posture. Frankly, anything that's utterly reactionary is pretty juvenile in and of itself.
If you want to make a new music reviewing site --congrats, go ahead. Just don't predicate it on being the anti-anything. Do your own thing, rather than existing as a knee-jerk reaction. What, are you going to hate on Clap Your Hands Say Yeah because Pitchfork likes them? That's a unique and stunning editorial stance.
Score = 0
you should hate CLAP YOUR HANDS AND SAY YEAH for the RIGHT REASONS!!!!
not because Pitchfork says they're good. I mean pitchfork also says Bright Eyes is good and he is TERRIBLE
Score = 0
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah isn't bad at all.
but what the hell is up with Pitchfork saying things like "Sit Down, Stand Up" is compositionally identical to "2 + 2 = 5" ?
and I was joking about the "rebel-pitchfork media"
Score = 0
Hey I'm a girl and I don't like Death Cab for Cutie. It's not just the guys. Sorry but the band is fucking boring.
Score = 0
It's OK, not so bad as some people are saying here but nothing as good as their earlier work. My girlfriend will love it of course.
Score = 0
It's just "meh" to me...and if it counts for anything yeah...calliwell is a girl.
Score = 0
christ on a bike people...i never said that 'all girls love death cab'
and on a sidenote, CYHSY are awesome.
Score = 0
I can be a music snob, but I don't dislike them because of what they've done with their music.
It's because they suck. I mean I want someone to tell me what is good about it?
(I agree with Jennifer that they are boring.)
Score = 0
the guitarist for this band is annoying. i dont like him and his attitude.
Score = 0
i'm a fan of all their albums, and i guess i'll have to wait and see what the album is like as a whole. this song is alright but is also not a fantastic stand-alone song. also, i've gone to pitchfork's site for a long time now and i realize some people are haters but i just take their word like any others with a grain of salt...i make my own conclusions on music just as you should. but if i had to say one small complaint on their approach...i found it strange that they reviewed Xiu Xiu's new album one day before pitchfork's intonation festival. They gave their new album a positive review. But was there a chance of anything but that? I think it's fair to say that pitchfork would have looked pretty bad if they were to give Xiu Xiu a bad review a day before the band was to play in pitchfork's very own music festival featuring, that's right, Xiu Xiu. Oh well.
Score = 0
or, maybe it's even more complex than that. maybe they actually think that xiu xiu makes good music. This would account for them asking xiu xiu to play their festival AND giving them a positive review. WOW!!!!!!
Are we really delving into pitchfork media conspiracy theories? Turn your computer off.
Score = 0
p.s. pitchfork gave thunderbirds are now's first album a horrible review and they too are playing intonation.
Score = 0
he sounds just like the singer in Mew after the two minute line. which is great.
will probably work well as a single but hopefully its not the strongest track on the album.
Score = 0
Ben Gibbard fucks up this song. I have no problem with the rest of the band and the new sound they seem to be going with. It seems fuller and brighter, and could be interesting, though it's not what they've been good at in the past.
On the other hand, Gibbard seems to have forgotten what he's working on when laying the vocal tracks for this song. Maybe if Jimmy Tamborello was laying down some bleeps it would be acceptable for a Postal Service b-side. But the lyrics have been going downhill since The Photo Album, and this song is too full of cliche and meaningless fluff for me to even catch an interesting turn of phrase. I'd also hate to hear them go the Coldplay route of overusing "bah-bah-bah"s and "la-la-la"s in the place of interesting instrumentation or meaningful lyrics. I hope the album will yield at least a few solid tracks.
Score = 0
guys guys guys, enough ranting and raving....its a song, a song by dcfc,,,,which means that it will be poppy and sappy, we expect that from them. Dont tell me you guys are surprised that they released a carbon copy sounding song ???? There not radiohead, ther dcfc, nuff said
Score = 0
Whoever made the comment about us having standards that are too high and that we should try not focussing on the negative aspects of the music is out of their mind. It hardly even bears comment. This is the sort of logic that keeps people from getting into artists that aren't pushed directly into their line of sight by marketing campaigns and demographic tests. The fact that we're even debating this bland piece of lifestyle dreck when there's so much terrific music out there from the past 40 years of pop music, and that a lot of it is cheap or free, is pretty indicative of how marketing has essentially sullied our free will and imaginations into the ether.

'christ on a bike' - Ha, I like that phrase!
Score = 0
So weak....this could easily be the theme song for season 2 of Laguna Beach.....I just threw up a little
Score = 0
"christ on a bike"
only rivaled by "jesus tapdancing christ!"
Score = 0
hahaha. "Jesus tapdancing christ" is hilarious. I am also a fan of:
Sweet Merficul Jesus on a Praline Cracker
and
Holy Jesus on a Pogostick
I don't think Jesus would be angry about the whole 'name in vain' thing. On the contrary! He's an attention whore. I'm going to hell now.
Score = 0
i like it
Score = 0
I've always liked "Jesus titty-fucking christ" as well.
Plans=Yawn.
Score = 0
wow. i mean, the song is ok but its kind of... boring. i hope to god that the rest of the Plans album is better. I love DCfC and it would kill me if this is the song they think best defines they're new album.
Score = 0
THIS song ROCKS!
Score = 0
see now I like it. I agree with some of you that it is a little bland its missing that little 'oompf' that death cab had but it's still death cab. I agree with whoever said that people are hating them because they were on the o.c but for me that did nothing but lift my praises for them. They're still my favourite band. and yeah the recording is like out of a glossy wannabe indie mag but it's still death cab :).

there isn't a single part in this song that makes me think there could be any redemption. its too bad its the single, but fingers crossed the new album is (a lot) better.
i feel really bad giving them a bad review while looking down at my dcfc shirt...
Score = 0
i KINDA like this song...
but...it's not their best.
that's for sure.
i'm HOPING that the rest of the album doesn't suck.
that would just really piss me off.
Score = 0
The new song is just not as Death Cab as their older music. I always respected them for just having a sound that no one else could quite capture... wouldnt say i hate it but would say i love it. I guess ill just have to stick to the photo album :/
Score = 0
C'mon, haters! Are you deaf or what? This sounds like a classic... Prefab Sprout meets Arab Strap meets The Police in their good years? Give me a ton of these!
Score = 0
The song isnt bad, but it isnt fantastic. im waiting to find out how it fits in the album as a whole before i make up my mind about it. ive found that with deathcab, its more the charm of the entire album rather than stand out tracks.
Score = 0
This sounds like elevator music.
Score = 0
I think about 80% of this song is fantastic, but then again, I like Since You've Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, too.
Score = 0
i really don't think this song is even close to as bad as people are portraying it to be. i absolutely love death cab, but, i mean, it's not their best, but it's not shit like people are saying it is, in different terms. but, like someone said earlier.. this particular death cab song sounds like it could be used on the 2nd season of laguna beach... oh god.... i hate that show. stupid little prep, beach fuckers. but hopefully this song won't be their theme... i would probably throw up and send it to kirsten or whatever the hell that preppy laguna beach girls name is...
Score = 0
this is a sweet chillin song.
not every song has to be the best..but this song is good to listen to.
Score = 0
I feel that this is one of the most beautiful deathcab songs. It's a fight between this and we looked like giants. I'm in love with it.
Score = 0
I personally think that "Soul Meets Body" is a very good song, for a single or otherwise. It's simplistic (something Death Cab has mastered) and a little whiny (another thing Death Cab has mastered). I don't see what the big deal is here. People always Bitch and moan that a band has changed too much. I think that this song sounds just like old Death Cab only a little more produced (and beautifully produced at that) than past releases.
I can understand people not liking them getting popular (sometimes it makes me sad too) but they're still the same band, it's not like they turned into Blink 182 or something.
As for the song alone, wonderfully simplistic music. Lyrically it's a little obscure, but Gibbard's really good at doing that. Overall, it's one of my favorite songs by Death Cab, but maybe not their best... But it's a damn good song nonetheless.
Score = 0
i think the song rules, but regardless, all you whiny bitches need to get over it or make a better song yourself for everyone to judge.
Score = 0
Absolutely beautiful song. Amazing lyrics, great sound. Can't wait for the new album.
Score = 0
Just because people listen to "indiE" music, doesn't make them a snob. I know many music snobs that hate Indie. I am open to everyone, and respect most forms of music. anyways
I think that this song is pretty good. i don't like the "ba ba baa da da" thing. he's already used that in too many songs. It sounds like a typical DCFC song, i love the scenic lyrics and good vibes! fuck the haterS! every band changes with time. you tend to lose inspiration after the years. I'm looking forward to this album very much!! and seeing them tomorrow at Lollapalooza!!!!!!!!
Score = 0
yeah, finally some people that don't bash this song. i mean, it's a pretty good song. i agree with that andrew kid also. i mean, all these people that are bitching about how they think it sucks, try to make a better one cuz this song is fuckin good
Score = 0
YA BITCHES! DCFC OWNS YOU. AWESOME SONG.
Score = 0
hahaha, yesssssssssss. it owns... and for that kid "kyle g" you're just some groupie that ben gibbard never called back! BEN OWNS YOU AND YOU'RE SMALL PENIS!!!!!! i love ben, youu should appreciate him and i think everyone should look up to him,.
Score = 0
For sure if you're looking for XiuXiu weirdness in a death cab song.
Its a pop song and thats basically what DCFC have been doing for years, the chorus is great really simple and catchy.
If only all pop bands could sound as good as this.
Score = 0
ew, no. pop bands are supposed to suck becuase pop is shit. death cab is so much better than pop buddy..
Score = 0
Yes... Just what I've been waiting for. New Death Cab=LOVE... The new music is like a new fruit, it has a new taste to it and the taste is sooo good... But the aftertaste is the same as their old music and it leaves you with a sense of fullness. No Im not hungry, Its just one way of describing it:P
Score = 0
Consider: "The Sound of Settling" was the first single off of Transatlanticism.
Last night at Lollapalooza, they played another new song, "Broken Teeth," and that was really good, as well.
As for this song, I'm not too crazy about the verse, but the 'I do believe it's true' part is really fun. I agree with the comments about the ending of the song, while it does sound atmospheric (and I bet that's what the were going for) it's too... how best to put it... 'samply.'
I still like this song, though. It's catchy and fun to listen to.
Score = 0
I absolutely adore DCFC but the first time i heard the song, i wasn't too impressed. But but the 3rd time, i was hooked. So what if they're on a big record company now and mtv destroys thier songs as much as possible, once the indie phase is over, the pop kids will go back to being their same tool selves and we'll still have death cab
Score = 0
that is so true. the first time i heard it i wasn't crazy about it, but then if i went out somewhere then i would want to get home so i could listen to it. haha :- )
Score = 0
i think most of you guys just want an older album with a new name. Are they not allowed to make up new songs??? and besides, you can play these songs with chords, something about airplanes have there share of "lame" songs. Ever thought of people having different tastes? some people have different favorite death cab songs. There is no such thing as a bad song, from death cab, simply you dont particularily like them. and besides there are still a handful of songs on the album that no-one has heard. so show some support. but its alright i still love the band.

Marching Bands of Manhattan is much better than Soul Meets Body. I think it was a poor choice of a single. It's sort of bland.
Score = 0
AHHHHHHH. soul meets body is better than marching bands of manhattan, from my point of view, but oh welllllllll!
Score = 0
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE ROCKS! FUCK YOU ALL
Score = 0
First listen - wasn't into it.
Second listen - eh
Third listen - eh?
Fourth listen - ooh!
It's really grown on me. The production is really simple, but keep in mind that most of the copies we're hearing are really pathetic streams. I'm seeing people convert these low bitrate to mp3 and post them on their blogs. Sheesh. The sound quality is horrible.
There's an interesting note on the death cab website where one of the guys in the band said he expects the whole album to be on the net soon and that he likes that idea actually. I can't wait to hear the whole thing... definitely buying it on August 30th
Score = 0
Soul meets body is a great song and the album is even better. If you dont like the new stuff then you prolly never liked their stuff to begin with. So if you dont like them why waste your time badmouthing them?
Score = 0
I love Death Cab and I have now for a long time.
About the song Soul Meets Body, I think its a great song and, also a nice single song, its got a good sound that will make people get hooked or at least I did and I can't wait for the new album. I'm sure that Soul Meets Body isn't the best song on the album either, because usually the single isn't the best one on the album. And about DC being an "OC band," thats stupid to hate them for that, because as much as you may hate the OC admit it that the OC does have good music, and just because they are on the OC doesnt mean that they are going to change.
Score = 0
This song is not at all a representation of the brilliant piece of music that is Plans. Seriously, this album is incredible, just an incredible pop record and I don't mean Brittney spears pop, i mean Pop as in popular. The beatles were pop, ben folds is pop, and Plans is a pop record, and it's brilliant. Put down the haterade, stop being snobs and kiss the collective DCFC ring.
Score = 0
Yeah I agree with Elon. This song is not the best song on the album. But Plans is amazing I absolutly love it, and I can't wait till DCFC comes to ATL oct. 29th cause I will be there for sure!
Score = 0
I'm betting this band sounds just as good live as it does in the studio. Don't be concerned if your listening to a "mainstream" band or not. Just like this music for what it is. And if you don't, at least your not disliking it for what it isn't.
Score = 0
yea..a real over reaction of people..it's not a bad song..just somewhere in your head, as people have been saying, you're just concerned with popularity increases..so what does this mean to you? what losses will you face because of popularity? when you ride down the road and you turn up your deathcab other people will know it now and you'll feel a connection with everyone while trying to keep tight with your individuality? is that what your worried about? don't be stupid..seriously..the song is produced somewhat different than the past..it's clean..but goddamn..i don't get mad when i have clean underwear to put on..it's good stuff..looking forward to the album..and to deathcab's success, and i am by no means a promoter of mtv..i'm sure they'll fade like my precious modest mouse did from the mtv viewers..same way with them..they inherited a whole new sound almost with their plop into mainstream, but goddamn..still rocking as ever.
Score = 0
This song is one of the top 5 out there now.. not a lot of stations playing it outside the alternative stations out here anyway. I think it is a gem.. love the Dream Pop sound..

Hehe, they use this song on the December Abercrombie Kids store cd...must be reaaally cool.
