New Elbow - "Mirrorball" (Stereogum Premiere)

We were all over the video for "Grounds For Divorce," the excellently breezy, ballsy, percussive, first single from Elbow's fourth album, The Seldom Seen Kid. It felt like vintage Greg Dulli, if the Whigs had been from Manchester, not Ohio. Guy Garvey & Co. soften the corners for "Mirrorball," the song that falls immediately before "Grounds" on the new one, and it's an altogether dreamier, less beer glass-crashing ballad. Garvey's tunes generally have at least one line suitable for framing. This time it's "we kiss like we invented it." And then everything that comes after it.

Elbow - 'Mirrorball'

This is such a classic-sounding, classy album. Hopefully the gents get the audience they deserve for it.

The Seldom Seen Kid is out 3/17 in the UK on Fiction and 4/22 in the US on Fiction/Geffen.

truly one of the most underrated bands currently out there. their last album, "leaders of the free world" was absolutely brilliant. hope this one finally "breaks" them in the U.S.of A.

Awesome. These guys are so consistently good. I dig the groove this one gets into before the strings hit for the first time.

@Andrew: hell yes Doves. I believe it was the "new Doves" tag that intrigued me about Elbow in the first place, though they've more than created their own sound.

I absolutely adore Elbow. I annoy my friends with how much I love their music.

I've listened to this album so much this week that a few songs from it are already among the most played on my iPod! I've pre-ordered it from Amazon UK, but may cancel and buy the US version now. And I have my tickets to see them live!
