New Fever Ray - "If I Had A Heart" (Fuck Buttons Remix) (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New Fever Ray - "If I Had A Heart" (Fuck Buttons Remix) (Stereogum Premiere)

It'd be interesting to see how Andreas Nilsson would shift his eerie "If I Had A Heart" video to match onetime BTW Fuck Button's bouncier remix. Instead of Knife Karin Dreijer's dark, pulsing, ambient single we get one of those catchy, crystalline FU build-ups that uses the original as its starting point then weaves it through the fuzz like a ghostly sigh until its unexpected cut. This 8-minute version shows up physically next month as part of the "If I Had A Heart" 7", but because you're here, you can hear it today. We also have the Karin-and-mirror-sunglasses-continuing Fever Ray album art.

Fever Ray will look like this:

The "If I Had A Heart" 7" is out 2/10 via Mute. The self-titled album is out 3/24, also via Mute, though you can get it as a digital download tomorrow (1/13).

Great.

I spent all of last night with If I Had A Heart on repeat.

The Fuck Buttons remix is better than the original in my opinion. After watching the video, the original song feels more like a cut from the soundtrack of a movie rather than a single off an LP. Yes it's dark, and creeps along, but it just doesn't have any sort of climax to it. I'm waiting until the album comes out to reserve judgment because maybe this fits into the "larger picture" contextually.

Fuck Buttons can do no wrong.
But I like the Mogwai remix more.

x2 about the single... but maybe its just a prelude to the amazingness.

fuck buttons is awesome, but the remix just sounds like the original with an 808 beat over it and simple synth....

there's a mogwai remix? holy shizzle, why have i not been on top of this?!

they remixed 'mogwai fear satan' and it is indeed pretty great (although you cannot touch the original)

This remix doesn't do a hell of a lot for me, but then I'm not really a fan of Fuck Buttons (They make music with gameboys, HOORAY FOR THEM!)

Fever Ray is a real solid album. It is to the Knife what The Eraser was to Radiohead. I look forward to seeing what Karin puts together for the live show, and if it travels beyond Northern Europe this time.

i dont mind fuck buttons

but that was an AVERAGE remix

especially as, although a bit underwhellming at first listen, after listening to the whole of fever ray's album and letting it sink in, i realise how amazing if i had a heart really is

This is pretty much the song the original should have been. The original had no climax - this is all climax, and better for it.

Now if only the Fuck Buttons original material didn't suck ass, we'd be getting somewhere.

This remix is really, really good! I got goosebumps all over. While I loved the original song, this is more the kind of music I listen to normally. Highly recommended for anyone! I hope some local DJ's pick this one up...

I really do not like this remix. It rips the soul out of the orginal by placing an irritating synth over the top. DELETE
