New Found Glory At The Movies

Since we're spending so much time at the movies today, might as well ... Ever wonder what would happen if your favorite movie songs were suddenly emo-ized? Pine no longer young Dashboard fan, New Found Glory has put together another collection of movie covers, From the Screen To Your Stereo Part 2. It's the full-length follow-up to the first installment, an EP from way back in 2000 that included "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough," "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," and The Never Ending Story theme (what?), among others ... Incorrigible fuckers.

If this photo doesn't make you want to punch them, these songs may do the trick...

Yessir, almost a dozen new saccharine cinematic slices, including "Stay," complete with backing vocals by Lisa Loeb. Wait, is she that desperate? Well, still would tap that ass. Seriously though, who the fuck covers Sixpence None The Richer? Right, New Found Glory. Still, no one should cover "Don't You (Forget About Me)," except Simple Minds (what, you thought they wrote it?). NFG also do "Crazy For You," which was the previous #1 the week before that Simple Minds' song. (Bless you, Wikipedia.) Actually, conjuring that era, "Crazy For You," along with "Lovefool" also appear on the 25% awesome Radio 1 comp.

Anyway, let the music do the talking/whining: There are three MP3s, including "Stay," over at Zeon's Music Blog. You can also snag a few streams over at the band's MySpace, including the album's winner, a smile inducing mall-punk take on "King Of Wishful Thinking," which we've already established is ripe for parody. Pass the Gummy Bears.

If one of your pathetic emo-in-indie-clothing artists did they same thing, you'd be creaming in your hands so hard you couldn't type. Please.

seriously, what the hell happened to this website? is there information out there explaining what happened? i checked the stereogum wiki, but it just had general stuff. is there a link out there explaining what happened to make this site different? there is no way the old stereogum would have had new found glory posts or foo fighters posts... unless they were really super snooty and interesting. im sure the owner sold it for some big money, but is he still involved? who bought it and who's running this now? creepy.

Hi, hi.
I'm sorry you didn't like the post.
If you think a covers comp of movie songs isn't Stereogum material you haven't been reading very long!

Do check out "King Of Wishful Thinking" -- it's hilarious.

OK, OK -- maybe I just wanted to link to that Lisa Loeb pic.

you don't have to apologize for my not liking your post, but if you could kindly explain the changes that have happened here, that would be helpful for many of your loyal readers. i love this site, and its clearly going through some awkward changes. i, like many of your readers, would love to know what those changes are.

CBG: Last night's "Itchy & Scratchy" was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever. Rest assured that I was on the Internet within minutes, registering my disgust throughout the world.

Bart: Hey, I know it wasn't great, but what right do you have to complain?

Comic Book Guy: As a loyal viewer, I feel they owe me.

Bart: What? They're giving you thousands of hours of entertainment for free. What could they possibly owe you? If anything, you owe them.

CBG: [pauses] Worst episode ever.
-- "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show"

Enough said. Keep doing what you're doing Scott, I'll still be reading.

Okay here's a change worth making:

Change "Comments" to "Caps".
Because that's always what happens. Someone makes a derisive "comment" about the article/the subject matter of the article/Stereogum covering said subject matter, and from that point on it is "cap, cap, cap on" everyone that follows.

I think that is where we're at with the 'gum. yeah there's stuff about music but let's face it...peeps like to cap.

What the hell, why is there another Eugene?

The multiple Matts, I can understand. But I have a pretty obscure name.

I demand he become The Other Eugene.

I have been a New Found Glory fan for years, they are an awesome live band - just wanted to show that there are some SG readers who like them!

Although I do like their cover of 'The Glory of Love', I must note that I have met 2 of the band members on separate occasions and they were both total assholes! The singer seemed particularly full of himself.

There is a price to pay for getting paid to blog.

It seems as though posting about immature, talentless musicians, is it.

I actually kind of liked New Found Glory. I thought the album would be exciting because of all the collaborations with certain artists. There were a few songs I liked but after a while it just became spit up trying-to-be-punk songs that don't bring even an ounce of justice to the originals. That being said, that guy needs to put a fucking shirt on.
