New From Merge Records

At the risk of turning into a Merge fansite, Stereogum recommends you stream both Crooked Fingers' Dignity And Shame and M. Ward's Transistor Radio today. Ward is hushed where Fingers get rollicking, but both tread that familiar barroom Americana Ryan Adams used to be so good at. Surely all you Conor Oberst fans need something new to listen to! (FYI - the first cut M. Ward's disc is a cool, fingerpicked version of "You Still Believe In Me" from Pet Sounds.)

Crooked Fingers Jukebox | M. Ward Jukebox

Speaking of Merge, click here to see the video for Arcade Fire's "Wake Up." Takes a while to load, so I'll give you the heads up that it's just live footage synched with the album track. Hopefully this doesn't preclude a proper video for "Power Out," which my inner A&R rep was hoping as the first single (do they play Arcade Fire on commercial radio?). To the creative types: Pitch your treatment for a big-budget Arcade Fire video in the comments!

They're played on KROQ in LA. Can't get anymore commercial than that. Well guess it would be more so if it was on Star 98.7 or KISS fm.

I keep forgetting that people are just hearing them for the first time.

Okay. Chekkit. Win is on a date with this girl, right? And he's walking her home aaand he's all like "I'm different, I can't be with you." And she doesnt understand, see? And then...then...he turns into a Werewolf! Yeah! And then he and the rest of the band dances with polished choreography--while dressed like *monsters*! But here's the catch--it will all be in Legos!
*slaps hands together and does a jig*

Which AF song do they play on KROQ?

Arcade Fire have a video finished for Rebellion (Lies) already, and it should be out anytime now. Apparently it features some animation as well.

They've started playing "Power Out" on 102.1 The Edge in Toronto. First time I heard it I thought it was an accident. Then I heard it again....plus the DJ was going on and on about how good they were....the beginning of the end?? (of the 'secret' anyway...)

our crappy alterna-rock station has been playing Power Out since early January, but our new great public radio station KCMP (kcmp.org) plays 4 diff AF tunes. Wake Up, Rebellion, Tunnels, and Power Out.

kroq has taken me to new heights of fury lately. i randomly tuned in only to catch the arcade fire, followed by new bright eyes, followed by incubus, followed by linkin park. then the dj got on and proceeded to talk our ear off about how prolific bright eyes is and how he has two albums out right now and surely that kid (and i quote) "can't fart without coming up with a song!" god, i love the radio.

Kelly, do as Reel Big Fish said and TURN THE RADIO OFF. Or perhaps "SELL OUT WITH ME" would be more appropriate.

First ska reference in oh-five. Yeah!

And we all know it's Ryan Adams who farts out songs.

Amazingly, I head the Arcade Fire on 99X in Atlanta. (Where you're definitely more likely to hear Linkin Park and the like.)

Reel Big Fish, that's a blast from the past. I liked that they covered the theme to Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

I was up in San Francisco last weekend and heard "Rebellion (Lies)" on one of the stations up there...just can't remember which one...pretty sure it wasn't 105.3 though.

Yeah, KROQ playing Arcade Fire Pretty much ensures that future concerts will be full of 16 year old girls, shouting out requests for the radio single, as well as Inland Empire bro's with flat billed hats, looking to fight all those "fucking hipster types" and raising their trucks in the parking lot. Need proof, go to an Interpol show and see how the crowd has changed. Thanks KROQ. Thanks a million.

They play "Power Out" quite often on KNRK in Portland, usually followed up with "the Bucket" by Kings of Leon. Power duo, yo.

Power Out is played on "indie" 103.1 in LA often as well. I quoted "indie" 103.1 because "indie" 103.1 is partly owned by "clear channel" radio.

although that may change:

oh, i remember the agruement i got into with a kroq dj a couple years ago about them playing interpol and how it was going to ruin everything. but really, blame afi for the bros at the interpol shows; if davey havok says it's cool, then they're all about it cept for the blood brothers.

yeah, "power out" gets played or at least, since i've been listening to the kroq morning show, it gets played at least once a morning during drive time, no less.

why no posts on aqueduct?

are you trying to start the indie version of the easst coast west coast rivalry? i saw them open for mates of states last week at the knitting factory and they really rocked the bitch.

they were pretty good on conan tonight too. you have to appreciate any band that has multiple fat people.

I did hear the Arcade Fire on Y100's Cage Match in Philly several weeks ago, but I'm not sure if it ever made it into regular rotation before the station changed formats last week.
