New Grizzly Bear Album Gets A Title And It's ... Veckatimest

thubmnail icon: New Grizzly Bear Album Gets A Title And It's ... Veckatimest

You know, one of the Elizabeth Islands of Dukes County, Massachusetts, USA.? But you already guessed that from Ed's recent Twitter riddle:

New album title begins with the letter V. Close enough to Y for Yellow House. Only W and X getting in the way, and keeping Y and V apart.

Obviously. So let's play some more of the name game: Until now we've had four song titles: "While You Wait For The Others," "Two Weeks," "Fine For Now" and "Cheerleader" (known in working title form as "2 Hud"). Now we can add the rest:

In no particular order, apparently:

"About Face"
"All We Ask"
"Cheerleader"
"Ready, Able"
"Southern Point"
"That's Not True"
"Two Weeks"
"While You Wait For the Others"
"Fine For Now"
"Dory"
"I Live With You"
"Foreground"

That comes from JP's Blog, who pieced it all together via I have no idea. Mr. Droste recently told us a bit of what to expect in a Progress Report, and according to yesterday's Twitter update the album is mastered and done. So all that's left is seeing what font they use on the album cover! Oh and also hearing the thing.

The kid's blog has since been removed. I don't know where he got this from. Not saying it can't be real but I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth. Someone send Ed a twitter message.

Not everyone in Massachusetts is an asshole. If anything, Grizzly Bear using this as a title improves the state's cred. You must be thinking of the functioning alcoholic real estate agents living on the Cape, the people who they sell summer homes to and the boring upper-middle class preppy lawyers and doctors in Boston :)

"massholes"??? people are so mean on the internet. and they're not all from mass. just one of them . they met and formed in new york. find some other excuse to ridicule them.

the other blog removed it because that's not the tracklist and it hasn't been announced yet, so its kind of a bummer to see it reposted here

Grizzly Bear artist, Ben Tousley, has confirmed that that is not the tracklisting:

Can we assume that is the title then since only the tracklist has been deemed false?

It seems a little shady to post this with out getting any band confirmation first. It was probably taken down at the other place for a reason. Ill wait for an official announcement.

Awful name if you ask me.

I really liked the titled Yellow House, and the cover, unpretentious and understated. A graceful way to wrap such a magnificent album.

Can't pass judgement until I see album art. It's a tongue twister. More interesting than something like "dear science" or "microcastle" that's for sure

Is there a different version of "While You Wait For The Others" besides the Morning Becomes Eclectic track? I saw them do it on some talk show, and that was enough for me to say it was among the two or three best tracks of 2008. Is there, I dunno, a Daytrotter version, or one where you can hear all the guys singing "want" "Want" "Want" in equal volumes? Or is this just a Holy Grail until the album comes out?

UTR's Matt Fink said that the track had an "I Am the Walrus" vibe. Because of the mellotron. It's actually called "I Live with You" (tentative title).

From reading Ed Droste's twitter it sounds like there's some dream-like/fantasy vibes going on (something about Victoria Legrand riding Falcor?). To me, the name Veckatimest does a pretty good job of capturing an unknown/magical setting.

Also, it's an uninhabited island, so there's no studio access and I doubt they were able to set up their own studio in the wilderness... That would be some next level shit though, hope they take that route on the follow up
