New Jay-Z - "Show Me What You Got"

Rolling Stone points us to the first single from Kingdom Come (out 11/21, Chinese Democracy day). Check those recycled Wreckx'd-N-Effect'd horns and stream "Show Me What You Got" (produced by Just Blaze) at XXL. Impressed? Underwhelmed?

Actually, the horns were originally used in a Public Enemy song called "Show 'Em Whatcha Got." Hence the title.

Pretty hot song, IMO. Just Blaze always kills shit.

The N2Deep sax sample seems pretty unnecessary

i fully expected to hear, "you are listening to the sounds of the w.n.e. posse..."

however, in hip hop (the way it stands today), it's perfectly fine to "sample" (definition: directly and uncreatively steal) another hip hop song as long as it is more than 2 years old.

i can't wait to hear ludicris' new song that will inevidibly sample gnarls barlkey's crazy.

Let's pleeeease not even try to pretend that rock artists don't borrow and steal from other rock artists. It happens all the time, and it doesn't necessarily mean that an album or artist is completely unoriginal or bad or unartistic.

George Clinton thought sampling old soul/funk was lame and cheezy too. Then he heard The Chronic. That's the essence of the art of beatmaking and DJing.... you take an older piece and turn it into something completely new. You could make the argument that Just Blaze relies too heavily on the original track, but listen to that percussion and syncopation he lays down. How can that beat be anything less than awesome?

the point isn't that he used a sample, idiots. it's that he used a sample that's already been used to death. i mean, fuck, at least try to be a little creative.

99 problems was a complete jack of Ice-T's track from the Home Invasion LP in '93. Jay didn't even change the track title! A little thoughtless, granted, but samples have been used since the beginning of Hip Hop. It's one of the reasons for it's longevity.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NOTICED IT BUT THIS BEAT WAS DONE BEORE...

Sorry but this isn’t the first time that samples of these two songs where combined. The first time these two songs where combined in the form of sampling was 1989 on a song called „Soul Food“ by Philadelphias famous Tuff Crew on their legendary LP „Back to Wreck Shop“.
That song is a pure instrumental track with dope cuts by legendary DJ Too Tuff who is highly underrated. You can check the track „Soul Food“ on DJ Too Tuffs myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/djtootuff ).

DJ Too Tuff is currently serving 6 - 22 months at Curran-Fromhold Correction Facility in Philadelphia.

Go to his myspace page and give him some hope by showing a great DJ and a big influence to a lot of DJ's some respect where it's due !!!!!!!!!

Who did Jay-Z sample his lyrics from? The only time Jay-Z "writes" a good song is when he takes lyrics from other rappers. www.mydailyzen.com

There's a rumor flying around that Just Blaze jacked the beat. If you listen to Kidz in the Hall's song Don't Stop, they are very familiar...
Check out this video recreation of it that's up on youtube.

THIS TRACK IS PURE FIRE. ITS NOT WOT U SAMPLE OR HOW MANY TIMES ITS SAMPLED, BUT HOW U USE IT. AND JUST BLAZE KILLED IT WITH THE DRUM PROGRAMMING. IF U MAKE BEATS U KNOW WOT IM TALKING ABOUT, THATS 1 POWERFUL BEAT. AS 4 THE LYRICS, JAY MAKES IT SEEM SO EASY THAT PEOPLE CONFUSE IT WITH BEING LAME. SO ALL U HATERS PLEASE FASTEN UR SEAT BELTS COS THAT WAS JUST A WARM UP.

Personally, I think the drums are too busy. When Stu B Doo sampled it for Rass Kass' song, "Rassassination", the title song of the album, it was much better. He kept the drums simple and let the horns and bass carry the song. If I was a DJ in a club, I would throw the the Rass Kass song right after this. The drums give it a more mellow sound to dance and ride the groove to. Not hating, just stating.

The drums on that track is unbelievable. It takes incredible skill to put that together. Your'e a musical idiot if you don't recognize that. In fact your deaf ass should be removed from the planet. With all this other bullshit that's playin on the radio this song is a breath of fresh air. For you haters, yall must like bullshit songs and think lil wayne is the best rapper. No disrespect to wayne but yall niggas need to go kill yourself if you think this new Jay record is wack. You better get some q-tips and listen again.

BREATHE... get some OXYGEN in the ole GREY MATTER. maybe y'all would get some sense and finally think straight.. the true king of lyricism is "DEL THA FUNKEE HOMOSAPIEN" from the HEIROGLYPHICS CREW.... if intricate beats is what y'all want listen to "DELTRON 3030" a true CLASSIC, educate yourselves. "OAKLAND" home of the BLACK PANTHERS. representin real hip hop.

^^ funny you say that, cuz del doesnt even like his own shit on 3030. del is dope, but hes not the best. neither is jay. im just glad that a dude with this much exposure is using better beats, regardless if its been used or not. sampling is flipping something anyways, so really, using an older beat and flipping it is no different. at least were not hearing some chicken noodle bullshit coming out of his mouth.
