New Kanye West - "Robocop"

thubmnail icon: New Kanye West - "Robocop"

Earlier this month we learned that when Kanye's not checking his RSS for fresh KAWS Be@rbricks, he's dusting off his Tears For Fears LPs. You can hear the fruits of his eighties nostalgia in high fidelity now that we've updated that "Coldest Winter" post with new audio. ("Love Lockdown" and "Heartless" are here and here, in case you've been living under a rock that doesn't Tivo Ellen.) Today we get our fourth leak from 808's & Heartbreak. "Robocop" is also eighties referencing, but comparatively upbeat. In it, Yeezy shows the door to a girl who's gotten scarily possessive; sample rhymes: "Who knew she was a drama queen/ That'll turn my life to Stephen King's" ... "Just looking at your history/ You're like the girl in Misery." You're never gonna believe this, but TR-808 beats and Auto-Tune feature heavily!

Herbie Hancock is rumored to be contributing keys to this song before it's put on record. 808s & Heartbreak is out 11/25.

I hope his next single is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he samples Ice Ice baby, and Go Ninja Go Ninja Go.

as much as hip-hop artists borrow lyrics these days days i almost excepted to hear "i don't want no robocop" to be followed by "she like me like a lollipop". good grief.

I liked (for the most part) the first three of his new songs, but this one, not so much.

ENOUGH WITH THE T-PAIN VOICE IT'S EXTREMELY ANNOYING !!

His last 2 albums were great, I hope he doesn't mess up with this one !!

Following the naming convention of his first two albums, shouldn't this one be called "Parents' Basement" or, in keeping with the 80s theme, "9 to 5"?

That's the next album after 808s, or the actual follow-up to Graduation.

if weezer were an electro/r&b band, this is the kind of song they would make.

Kanye wants us to be patient:

I DID NOT LEAK ROBOCOP!!!... THAT'S NOT EVEN THE FINISHED VERSION... I'M PRETTY UPSET ABOUT IT BUT THAT'S THE WAY LIFE IS SOMETIMES!

weirdly enough i feel like in everything he's released so far there are really good songs, but the production is off. hopefully these aren't mastered yet but whatever. this is song's alright. it's not bad, but as a pop song there's not enough to grab on to.

yeah i like everything he's done so far.

This is only an experimental album. It's not supposed to be for everyone. Some will like it, some will not.

That said, I do not.

i think this is definitely better than love lockdown and heartless, and i havent listened to coldest winter enough to truly say how i feel. i like the idea that kanye is going with, to branch out from hip hop and try his hand at other genres, particularly 80s style pop, but i dont really know how its going to pan out as a whole. im going to buy it anyway.

I think this will be my favorite track when it's finished.
It's realy not bad at all given the fact its not done.
But is he reallly singing for every song on the album with that T-pain voice?

First off for you people who keep saying "with that t-pain voice" Im pretty sure cher and roger troutman have used that voice way before t-pain. And for yal 2 hate on kanye for ding something differant and not talk about the usual "money or hoes" is stupid..kanye is the best rapper alive!! do some research on yal music history bitches... Kanye for president....

This album is a work of art. It doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard before. True it features examples of other genres, but he mixed them effortlessly. I really don't think I'm a fanboy that likes anything,I'm pretty critical of everything. But this is a beautifil album. I like sad music so maybe I'm biased. And T-pain and Wayne annoy me waaaaaaay more with autotune than Yeezy (I do like afew T-pain songs though) I think when he moves past this and goes back to his more commercial sound people will realized they missed the boat on some true musical genius.
