New Kill Peaches - "Dreams" (Snowden Covers Fleetwood Mac)

Mixed reaction to that "Iko Iko" cover.

Let's see what the peanut gallery thinks of Kill Peaches' robot rock take on a Fleetwood Mac classic. I discovered this from KissAtlanta's must-visit July Mix. Can't find ANYTHING else about this band on the Internerd. Info appreciated.

Kill Peaches - "Dreams" (MP3)
Sure beats Courtney Love's "Gold Dust Woman."

Full disclosure: Stereogum is a huge Lindsey Buckingham fan and learned Travis Picking listening to Out Of The Cradle. I wish he'd stop fucking around and put out a new album ready.

UPDATE: Preston's got the scoop, exclusively for Stereogum readers:

Hahaha... I am the soul keeper of the true source of Kill Peaches... and I will leak it to only you. It was done by my little brother... Jordan. You probably know him formally as Snowden. He gets a bug every so often to do a fun cover, but didn't want to do the covers as Snowden. The local dj's (myself included) had been playing Time Of The Season too much and half-jokingly started begging for more covers of old songs that were kind of dancey, but not quite enough. Jordan went home and did this remake in his bedroom in a few hours. He mixed it in his car, on a laptop and headphones.... and used a wireless connection from a coffee shop nearby to send it to me just in time for my gig the next night. Kill Peaches was chosen as the name... because right when he got the idea to do the remake... the dj played peaches... who jordan doesn't particularly care for. So... there's the story. You're the first to know.
Thanks Pres!

It doesn't get any better than the album cover for Buckingham/Nicks. This is the way you want your friend and her boyfriend to look at you just before you decide to do the three-way.

Whoa. weird.

Bobby Birdman and Little Wings have a cover of "Dreams" on the new States Rights Records compilation called Bro Zone.

It's way different than this one.

Also, Deep Dish cover "Dreams" on their new album. Apparently they had Stevie fly to London for a few days to record the vocals, rather than just a sample. It's a pretty cool version as well, I recommend it (but then again, I like house music from time to time, so what do I know?).

Fleetwood Mac is hard to cover because their stuff is so well produced, but there's a CD of cover songs called "Patron Saints of Pop" that has very good, alternative covers. Also, Camper van Beethoven's cover of the entire "Tusk" album is a lot of fun and, at times, almost as beautiful as the original.

Thanks for this. I collect FM covers. We did one for a short film. Very lo-fi. Laugh, but try to feel the love. And I think Lindsey's voice is still gold.

The sad wasn't bad at all. It is definitely better than Courtney and Billy Corgan's versions.

strangely, Deep Dish's new album also has a cover of "Dreams," but with new vocals by Stevie Nicks. it's, um, interesting, but not all that compelling. nevertheless, i'm sure it'll get some play on the dancefloors.

I'm sorry, did someone actually state that "Patron Saints of Pop" was a collection of "good" covers? I only have a copy as a fan of Fleetwood Mac, but it's painfully horrible to listen to. Most of those covers cd's are filled with bands you'd never want to listen to if you weren't forced to.
I actually thought this cover was interesting because it's so different from what's expected. It's not moronic disco beats over the top of an otherwise good song. Which, unfortunately, is what is usually passed off as a "remix" of their songs. It's usually unimaginative crap. I don't want to listen to 5 straight minutes of a droning drumbeat, 5 seconds of the actual song, and then 10 minutes of the same stupid drumbeat. Most people calling themselves "DJ-whatever" should have their little music mixers taken away from them.
