Not gonna lie, I like this a lot, but then again, Born to Run is one of my all time favorite albums. Jesus, they've got that whole break down with the glockenspiel and everything.

jesus this sounds bad. i think they're trying way too hard. wait, like their last album was the model of restraint.

i guess next they're going to remake born in the usa?

It's not bad, but it is so Springsteen! Although that's never a problem for me. I'd rather hear rip-offs of older artists than some of the bland indie rock that gets pushed as great these days. When is someone going to rip-off Dolly Parton?

i declare this the second coming of SUCK!

(i think you get the idea that i may not like this, and you would be right)

i think its a pretty solid track...sure, they're trying too hard and it's a bit over-the-top, but as Balumpus said, "their last album was [hardly] the model of restraint". What do you expect, they are from Vegas afterall.

I have to agree it is pretty interesting but I can't say that I like it... not yet at least. The song seems to send out a positive vibe, which may take time getting used to. I sorta feel I like them more when they were singing about murdered teenage girls and about being insanely jealous and paranoid. My plea: get back on the dark side.

If it's supposed to be one of the best of the past two decades, shouldn't it develop a bit from Hot Fuss?

I don't mind the song, and I don't mind Hot Fuss, but that certainly wasn't one of the best of the last 20 years, and this doesn't seem like much of a step up.

Meatloaf is right. It's not so much Springsteen, but Springsteen through a Steinman filter - all bluster, no nuance. But Steinman had more interesting melodies, better lyrics, and a singer who could actually convey an emotion or two.

The biggest problem is the vocal delivery. Flowers has all the emotional range of Gary Numan, which is a pretty bad trait to have if you want to pull off a supposedly heartfelt anthem.

Unless the other songs on the album are amazing, it's certainly not going to be one of the best albums of the last 20 years judging from this song, but I think the song is good. What I hate most about it is his voice. Never been the hugest fan of his voice in the first place, but he sounds really bad on this song. How high was he when this was recorded? Definitaly some springsteen in there(not a bad thing). One thing I like is how it seems to have no chorus, yet it's still catchy, and the somg arrangment is a little different from the average. I don't like it as much as Mr. Brightside or Somebody Told Me, but it's good enough. What's up with the lyrics though, maybe I'm just slow but they make no sense, then again this is the Killers.

After hearing 3 minutes and 39 seconds, I am ready to pass judgement on the entire album ... and declare it the best record of the last FIFTY years! The only that could it make it better is if they actually did hire Jim Steinman, Read Em And Weep-stizz!!!

I am real sorry but this is digusting Springsteen might be happy for the nod i.e back catalogue sales but that would be all he can smile about...

Flowers knew f' all about Springsteen until the 25th Anniversary thing came out and he has just f'n swiped it bad lyrics in all "were riding down the skyline on a hurricane"... He said he knew Born In The USA and Glory Days but that was it...

The come down before the middle 8 is just stolen from born to run. His voice cant carry the heavyweight songs - just very poor...

The story of the song is actually based on Thunder Road but musically it is arranged like Born To Run - so poor so poor

To the person who said he wished the lyrics were darker... i dont know about you, and i could be wrong, but i interpret the song as being about the devil. anyway, that's my interpretation. particularly the "he doesnt look a thing like jesus" bit.

also, didn't coldplay say they ripped off the riff for talk from kraftwerk?

I'm kinda young, so I never really got into Bruce Springsteen, so I dont know if it's a ripoff or not, but I like Interpol and they ripped of Joy Division and dont admit it. At least the Killers admitted to the inspiration. If it is a Springsteen rip off, i can only imagine they did him justice since "when you were young" is great and i've listened to it about 10 times in a row now.

And you know, they did take a huge risk. Maybe non-fans don't notice, but this sounds nothing like Hot Fuss at all. A lot of fans are actually kind of pissed, and a good bit of them don't like it. Losing a chunk of your fanbase because you matured as a band is typically a sign of taking a risk. And whoever said this sounds like "Talk" is out of their mind.

Haha, the second I heard that riff I instantly thought of Coldplay's "Talk."

Anyway, it's a good pop song. They're a fun pop band. That's about the extent of it. But they certainly haven't done anything new or shaped the sound of music for years to come. I'm still waiting on Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon Collie..." to be beat. Tick tock, tick tock.

Great hook, good changes and excellent vocals.. the guy can sing.

Who gives a shit who it sounds like...Led Zep sounded like Robert Johnson....How did that work out???....as far as OVER THE TOP this is a ROCK BAND from Vegas we are talking about right??? ....what do you want them to do sing soft mello drama dark bullshit for Starbucks....At least this song can be played in a bar on a Friday night and it will get peoples attention and not put them to sleep.

To me that is what this band is all about and based on this track it sounds like they want to remain loud and YOUNG!

Well, I wasn't really blown away by it at first, but it has gotten progressively better with each listen. Yes, it does sound an awful lot like Springsteen meets Meat Loaf meets Billy Joel but, y'know what, if you're of a certain age (30 plus), everything sounds like something these days - there's just no getting around it. At least The Killers do it with a bit of a "nod, nod, wink, wink" style as opposed to garbage like The Arcade Fire and She Wants Revenge.

Wow i really love this song, i mean the last album was great but probably the best song on that album "was under the gun" which was left on the cutting room floor only to be put on the extended, special version, i highly recommend hearing that song though, but i love the feel good lyrics that have a driven corous which really can make you quote on quote feel happy, springsteen was a great, and brandon is very cocky but i hope its as good as he says it is

Vocal sounds so much like Ryan Adams, it's insane...especially the "watch it now, here he come!"

All in all it's a great song, plain and simple. Not the 180 from Hot Fuss I was expecting, but different enough.

The last time through the chorus is amazing with the different chords being emphasized.

Great defiant and desperate feel...very uplifting at the same time. Classic song, hopefully.

Ah so many haters! But guess what? So many lovers too. Hot Fuss is still at number 37 in the UK album charts 2 years after its release. That can only mean two things. 1. there are thousands of people out there who are buying a copy every week just to keep it alive or 2. more people are listening to the new stuff, getting into The Killers for the first time and wanting the first album.

All these posts about waiting for the album to flop - it's just not going to happen is it? I mean come on, like tem or not, The Killers are a very popular band.

The new song is just brilliant. The lyrics, the vocals, the arrangement everything. And as for it being too risky and over the top, wake up. The Killers are not a shitty Indie band. They are a Rock band. From Vegas.

Dare to be different kids.

This song is fun for Bruce nostalgia reasons only. I think it's funny that Brandon tried so hard to sound like a Brittish 80's New Waver on the last record and now he's opted for 80's Americana pop. Will Brandon Flowers ever find a voice of his own?

Anyhow, I think NME hit the nail on the head when they declared "Hot Fuss" the "best half album of the year". The Killers are great at making a few catchy songs, but they don't have it in them to make the "greatest record of the last twenty years". I suspect the new album will be the same thing: Front load the record with all the singles and filler for the last half.

heya
For the first 30 seconds of the song when i first heard it on Radio 1 at the train station i was unsure about it but from then on it has just grown and grown on me and i now LOVE it so people need to give it time. Its hard for them to create a new song and for everyone to connect with it straight away and love it.

People are going to have to realise how hard it is for their new album,'some sounds', to follow on from 'Hot Fuss' as for many people the album was amazing and therefore their expectations for their new album will be too high, even if it is as good as most average albums nowadays people will slate it for not being as good as their first album and the second album can sometimes be the hardest to get right if their first is a huge success.

The Killers needed to try and create a slightly new sound but at the same time have it recognisable as 'The Killers' when people heard it so the public should recognise this and try to like the change, they couldnt exactly have made an album that sounded exactly the same as the first.

People, respect the fact that 'The Killers' have made an album that they like and that will entertain the pulic and they do not care what the critics think about it.

Somepeople have made comments about how the last album wasn't the best because there was a range of quality of songs on the album but most of the songs were great and how many albums can people actually name with more than 10 songs on all of which being great, well publicised songs?

Following on from those comments people have said how they believe 'The Killers' are 'Good' but not capable of making the best album of the last 20 years so they are not 'Great'. However, apparently then if this claim is true then their can only be one 'Great' band for them of the last 20 years and 3 'Great' bands in the last 60 years and sorry but if you only listen to these 3 bands then your album must be very dull. My ipod has about 2,500 songs on and out of them the killers' section is still my favourite.

Finally, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN DON'T BUY IT OR LISTEN TO IT. NOBODY CAN MAKE YOU BUY IT OR LISTEN TO IT SO DON'T AND IF THE ALBUM IS ONLY AVERAGE-GOOD DON'T BE CRITICAL THAT IT IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST, BE THANKFUL THAT IT IS AS GOOD AS IT IS AND THAT THEIR IS A SECOND ALBUM TO LISTEN TO.

Thank you if you have read all of this.

This song is really good. I was going to write "actually" in front of really good, but the Killers have a lot of really good songs. Of course Mr. Flowers is gonna get some harshness for the "best album of the last 20 years comment" but only because it's easy to make fun of stuff like that...

I know there's a lot of ways to make fun of the killers, but i believe that, just like weezer or the smashing pumpkins, people will be psyched to hear this on a jukebox in 5-10 years.
I know I will...

Oh my God, Joseph, you just nailed it.

I just tested it on my aunt, who'd never heard of the Killers before. She said "At first I thought Bruce, but then I thought Meatloaf."

fact: his voice isn't the best. but the song is really catchy, and it IS a great and well-produced song! Maybe even better than the hits "Mr. Brightside" or "Smile Like You Mean It". But YES, his voice isn't that good....especially when he sings withoutthe rest of the band....
