New Lightning Bolt - "Dead Cowboy" and Bardo Pond's Selections, Vol. 1-4

Are you stuck drifting through life in a state of existential confusion wandering aimlessly through the multitudes of energy products not knowing which one is the right one for you? Then look no further for the true meaning of life then Master Sensei Seagal’s Lightning Bolt Energy Drink!

Just kidding. Lightning Bolt's new Hypermagic Mountain is insane.

Bardo Pond's collection of rarities and b-sides, Selections, Vol. 1-4, is equally great. Bardo Pond and Lightning Bolt are very, very different, but they're on the same plane of guitar-worshipping bands that manage to turn feedback and distortion into ideas about pitchfork pitchfork pitchfork.

Just kidding. This fall has been the best time for new music that I can remember.

The new Lightning Bolt may get a solid 5 from me. Yes, this fall has been incredible.

too bad Lightning Bolt doesn't have a conventional guitarist. Hey temp, that's a bass guitar you're hearing.

I Love the LB.

At first, this album disappointed me a bit. Everything is in 4/4. Not as innovative and disorienting as the last two records.

But it's unrelenting. What it lacks in innovation it makes up for in sheer determination.

Saying this LB record is not as good as the last two is like saying "it's not as good as the two most amazing records I've ever heard."

LB are showing their age, and are now only able to put out amazing death-defying records that we can only aspire to... whereas before they were putting out brain splitting scree that no other man or beast could ever replicate.

A "sub-standard" LB record is still 99.99999% better than anything else ever recorded.
