New Lily Allen - "I Don't Know" / "I Could Say"

thubmnail icon: New Lily Allen - "I Don't Know" / "I Could Say"

A lot's gone down since last we checked in with the Lily Allen Programme. Like going whole hog with her Blondie love via a bottle of peroxide. Also, today lucky subscribers of Lily's MySpace blog post alert got this message:

Eaaasssyy peoples, So , I'm a blondie and loving it and I've been working hard in the studio . I posted a couple of new songs on the player for you all to have a listen to and get an idea of my new direction , they are just at a demo stage so don't be too hard on them . I'll probably swap some others around and play you stuff as I do it in the studio , like i did last time round . And ther'll also be a new mixtape soon , I hope you enjoy this shizzle . Aiiight big kisss lil x x

New direction, yes. Lily's no longer Alright, Still; gone is the party bounce, the ska doobies, and syncopated cadences that marked her breakthrough material. "I Don't Know" and "I Could Say" are synth-pop tunes, the smooth and airy sort that some of your favorite new wavers have turned to in their latter day states. Which, in light of recent events, is an acceptable and expected place for prematurely matured Lily to be, between the personal life tragedies and professional setbacks. So yes, we'll take it easy on you Lily! But we're hoping a little more time in the studio might bring a little shine to this shizzle. Have a listen at MySpace.

These songs are pretty great. What happened to "Everyone's At It" though? I thought that was supposed to be the new single released last month?

i love how "everything's just wonderful" is about how she's OK with not being like kate moss... then she gets famous, loses 20 pounds and turns into a blonde.

I dunno about the new stuff. I love Lily (well, before she lost weight, sorry, I have a prejudice), and maybe her new stuff will grow on me...

I love Lilly and I think she looks ok, for the most part, with the blonde hair, but I can't help but be reminded of Anorexic Girl in the movie, "Drop Dead Gorgeous."

The blonde isn't bad. She looks like Hayley Mills, and I mean that in a good way.

Pretty decent, don't know if they will last for a little more listens or not.

Pretty damn impressed with her new stuff. Not at all what I expected... but great lyrics and tight sounds. Good for you Lily.
