New Live Rufus Wainwright - "Zing! Went The Strings Of My Heart" (Judy Garland Cover, Live At The London Palladium)

We've got nothing but love for Wainrofolo, even though we're not sure exactly where his original stuff's headed these days (Poses is, understandably, a tough one to follow although Want One rather brilliant in its luster and bombast). So of course we anted up mucho money to nab tix for his recreation of Judy Garland's famed live album at Carnegie Hall last summer. It was good! At one point, before "Puttin' On The Ritz," Rufus said "This is the gayest thing I've ever done." It was an ambitious project, and one even his remarkable voice wasn't exactly up to (Judy could sing, y'all), but all in all, we got our money's worth. The critics, however, adored it, and Transatlantic demand brought the show to London and Paris. Apparently those went over well, too. So this December, Rufus adds to a few releases to his CV: a live album culled from the New York stint, and a live DVD from his time in London this February. Check this swingin' sneak peek from the latter, Rufus crooning "Zing!" then showing off some comically awful dance moves. Somehow that guy can smile and charm his way through anything.

Watch it at YouTube (no embed, sorry). The Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall double disc and Rufus! Rufus! Rufus! Does Judy! Judy! Judy! Live At The London Palladium DVD are both due out 12/4 on Geffen.
