New Madonna - "Hung Up"
Madonna's new single is out, but as a ringtone only for now.
I found an MP3 sample here. Kylie meets ABBA.
The new full-length Confessions On A Dancefloor is out in November. For the album cover Esther wisely chose to hide her face.

That's not the actual song, nor a sample of it. Thi is the intro from the Motorola site and other leaked (at various speeds) samples edited together. The actual song has not leaked yet, this was edited together by a fan and posted on a fansite forum, where it was then taken and posted by Pink and Perez.
But, this is NOT the song, that's why it's only 1:20 or whatever.

It sounds to me like all the people who have nothing better to do than to trash Mrs. Ritchie, are definitely jealous, or suffering from a serious childhood experience. So continue on with the negative critisicm. She will always be Madonna and there is not a damn thing you can do about it. Bravo! Madonna! You are the shit!!!!

She looks sexy and hot (at whatever age), she is NOT the new Cher (don't get your hopes up buddy) or Kylie MInogue or whoever else your comparing her to. This album is gonna be tight. Stop hating on her, you dumb bastards, it's really pathetic. GOOOO SUN DEVILS!!!ASU!!

I don't care if Madonna was 75 with false teeth and an oxygen tank and singing from a freakin' hovaround... she'd still be 100 times more fabulous and more relevant than Britny, Christina, Ashley, Jessica, Hilary, Lindsay, and all the other wannabe's COMBINED! Don't get it twisted! (That's three snaps in a Z formation!)

Madonna is so hott, I love this cover art. Its supposto look disco! She just made a dance album, with what she considers the new disco, and its sounds pretty damn good so far. Plus Madonna is the first to use a sample from Abba, they never let anyone before, goes to show the power of madonna.

I always wondered why people who don't obviously like her, always find the time and energy to put her down?!?! Anyway, she said it best, this is about "unapologetic and spontaneous" dance music, just fun.

Madonna is one of the greatest singers of our time, and she proved that in Holland last year. Tickets were sold out in less than half an hour. There will always be people who want to put her down, but she has a steady fanbase (i'm one of them). I like the way Madonna experiments (and experimented) with sexuality and crossing the borders sometimes. Don't joke and say she's trying to be kylie, or Cher. Madonna's madonna, a unique and very inspiring person. Not only because of her music, but also through her character and work ethic. So, don't give a fuck....I'm looking forward to confessions on a dancefloor.

I can't believe all these people still hate Madonna. That is so 1992! She has matured into a phenomenal philanthropist and maternal role-model. Stop hating on her. To say she is trying to be Kylie is absurd. Kylie (and I love her) was still doing the fucking locamotion when Madge got her first pair of hotpants! She is an iconic talent and should be respected so. All the hate-mongers need to put there focus on the real enemy in music - Hillary Duff!!! She released a greatest hits album and has never had a top 10 song. And she's like 15 years old. Ironically she also weighs 15 pounds now, but that's beside the point. Madonna is great, has been great, and will constantly keep re-inventing herself. She doesn't have to make albums anymore, but I thank god that she still does!

For all the Madonna haters, lets look at it from a real perspective...
how many of you will ever win numerous MTV/Billboard/VH-1/Rollingstones or AMA?
...NONE
how many of you will ever win numerous
American Music,or Grammy Awards ?
hmmm?...NADA
how many of you will win a GoldenGlobe for
a lead role in an epic musical?
...NIL
how many of you will be a best selling book author of 5 books in 9 different languages, sell millions
and donate all the proceeds to charity?
pfff!...YA RIGHT...ZERO
how many of you will ever take risks in life and become a pioneer, trailblazer and fashion/music icon and remain a powerful creative force for 20 years?
....OH thats tuff!
The reality IS Madonna's success scares those that are not willing to be inspired by it.
Those that only have negative comments to post about her seriously need to check themselves because you aint got an ounce of her determination, competence, creative aptitude and artistic ambition....(www.dictionary.com)cuz I know you don't know what those adjectives mean!

Madonna rocks period! as far as Kylie, hasn't she gotten tired of trying to be Madonna yet? please nobody can compare to lady Madonna(the QUEEN of pop and ONE and only TRUE Icon. as far as the sample, there are plenty of other's out there doing enough of that, so why not Madonna? after all she is using Abba, God knows they are played out by queens anyhow..so what is the beef? as far as her age, that has NOTHING to do with her TALENT and status as the ICON she is, as far as rapping on american life(she did it well, too bad you didn't enjoy it, but yet you enjoy Gwen Stefani(yuck)as far as Madonna being the NEW cher, she has ALREADY long ago overpowered her so get over it, as far as the sample of Hung up, I LOVE IT, it is fresh and NEW which is what the music industry needs right now, again Madonna is going to attempt to push the envelopes which she obviously does or otherwise your young or tired asses would not be here bitching and moaning, which completey makes me laugh because you still pay attention so therefore it leads me to believe that you must "wonder" what she is doing or going to do with these stupid no talent little bimbo's who are trying so desperatley to be Madonna and have her success, which sadly they will never have, and yes Kylie will NEVER HAVE IT, the loco motion was a copied song that she did to even get her on the map of music, so who is the funny one here? not Madonna, and besides that Kylie's sister is better than her anyhow! I cannot wait till this single from Madonna drops and above all the cd which I will buy the moment it is released. oh and for the cover of the cd...every disco, club or establishment that plays club music or whatever has a DISCO ball so perhaps your either too young to go to a club or too old to get your ass off the computer and go out to see a disco ball...she looks great and so does her hair...Madonna is always winning for her achievments one of most recent for beig sexy, so since your not ont he cover of a cd or magazine and at her age, please shut up..where will you be when your 47? probably not doing as well as Madonna..oh let's not forget her recent SOLD OUT TOURS and just how much true fans will pay or travel to see a real performer, musician and ICON...oh about the horse riding accident, at least she was doing somthing worth while and not whoring herself to sell records like some poeple we know...enough said..MADONNA RULES!
Score = 0
one final thing I Almost forgot to mention is all the poeple who sample Madonna...and bite her music...please do your research right and get the facts together before you bitch about the queen, she has been copied and sampled so many times that it frightens me to see so many no talent "singers" out there..but do keep talking about Madonna because it shows madonna and her fans just how intrested in her you really are...to the guy who wrote about this being so 1992, I totally agree with you...and to the guy who mentioned the hot pants..Madonna did do that WAY before Kylie...lmao!

Funny thing: Some people write slightly negative remarks (some of which were more or less ironic) on this board and a hundred self-appointed Madonna-protectors arrive to praise her ("she's the queen, the best, not the new cher, etc.") and to slag of the "Madonna-haters".
Isn't one allowed to be sceptical about this new single? Only because it's Madonna, it doesn't mean that it's automatically good! Come on!
I think we should wait until we can hear the finished product to give our final judgement. But after hearing this short sample, I have to say I was mildly shocked (this didn't sound like Madonna at all but like a very cheap Abba cover band).
One last thing: Stuart Price is shitty. He has made some clever tunes and has nice pseudonymes, but as a producer, he's so yesterday and lame. The worst choice of a producer in a very, very long time for Madonna. IMHO.
P.S.: I quite liked the American Life album (apart from the title track).

Um, if it wasnt for the gay men that want to Be MADONNa, she would have been a has been by now. In reality... OUR QUEEN of pop MOVED to England? WTF?
seriously, she was great, she was innovative...but there is only so many times you can re invent yourself. aka: no direction, no real talent.
Her cds stop selling as soon as she stopped being a media freak, hanging with lesbians, sucking guys toes, coke binges, and thowing her cunt around like rice at a wedding.
SHE IS WASHED UP AND OVER THE HILL....i cant wait to see her on Surreal Life.

It all depends on your opinion, im glad she working with Price, for a change, it could be her best album yet, as earlier mentioned . . who knows, untill its released. Some may say Mirwas is crap, and he was known little of untill Madge met up with him. Some even say madonna was ruined when she made the ablum "music" with Mirwas. I can remember before Ray of Light, many thought she was nuts and going through somthing weird when she hooked up with Orbit, and it turned out to be a very popular album, and she picked up many new fans from that album. I enjoy the album american life as well, despide what critics say, and for confessions on a dancefloor well just have to wait and see, whos to say its good or bad, it cant be that bad, maybe those who dont like it, will like what she does next, as Madonna herself said, if your gonna be a revolutionary, your going to go through periods where no many people like you

odonna...Of course people can be skeptical of her new single since it is not fully out yet.
But to say Madonna is talentless despite 20 years of tremendous success and innovation, and diss her because shes 47 years old is absurd and ignorant.period.
Wake up people. Madonna and other people in this lifetime are here to inspire us to be our best, push our limits and evolve and all you can do is dog her.
HAHAHA anyhow fuck all ya'll because your lives are probably pretty sad, and you probably sit and complain about why you aint even getting paid minimum wage...and your dissing a 47yr old woman that sold out worldwide concerts in less than an hour...hahaha..what the fuck are YOU doing????....hahah....dont hate!

I'm not sure why people don't get how genius Madonna's American Life album was (not to mention her rap in the title song). Anyone who doesn't get that she was taking the piss out of 'commercialized America' is clearly an idot. Rap and Hip Hop are artforms - unfortunately in the American machine, Rap has been commercialized and bastardized just like coffee (Starbucks), Yoga, and Mini Coopers. Hence the reason she was pointing that out by rapping about them, clear as day. Wake up people - the woman's smart as shit - she knows what she's doing. For the criticizers - it is your perogative after all, but maybe you should take a closer look and be a little less judgemental - the rest of us think you're missing something. I guess with the new album cover we can all look forward to getting over our war hangovers and have a party finally! Looking forward to November 15!

ok, even artists who are 20 get their album cover airbrushed, so who cares. AND everyone has been stealing pop music from eachother for years. It's pop, it's not like there is this enormous amount of different things you can do with this pathetic form of art anyway. You all act like she is stealing from real musicians, like ABBA! HAHA that's funny. It's trash all trash. And guess what, Madonna does it the best. She always has and always will. So you can love her or love to hate her. But in essence she loves herself and if you HATE madonna and feel the need to pick her apart you obviously don't love youself enough. Madonna is amazing.

Madonna is a truly great talent and people who slag her off are simply jealous of her incredible talent and how she has used it. Madonna was worked harder than any of us can probably imagine to stay genuinely at the top of the Music game for the last 20 years - she deserves respect and recognition - she is incredibly talented, smart and hard working and makes timeless great records, she is a great songwriter and performer
Just remember all you stupid twats slagging Madonna off for being 'old' that you too will be 47 one day and I bet you don't look anywhere near as good as Madonna does today and have acheived the success she has over the past 20 years - year after year turning out great musis, great videos, great world tours and so on. This woman does not stop she is a true warrier and we should be thankful that we are alive in the same era that she is here. She brightens up people's worlds and is a great source of inspiriation for people all over the world

All you haters are lame. She's almost 50, and looks better than you do. her collaboration with Jacques Lu Cont will kill. How many female artists can say they have been around for almost 25 years and still remain just as strong as they were when they just started out. Madonna is Madonna. Ok, just because it's Madonna doesn't mean it will be great, I mean, Bedtimes Stories wasn't exactly a stunning album, infact if it had been anyone other than Madonna I wouldn't own it, but from what I have heard and seen from the new album it's gonna be great. Stuart Price isn't a shitty producer at all, you say he's made some great music but is rubbish as a producer forgetting that he produces all his own music aswell as having worked with everyone from Gwen Stefani to New Order.
The simple fact here is that no matter how much you hate Madonna, I really doubt she cares. Madonna has made a career on being controversial, she started off by being the 'slut' character and now she's reached 47 she's being controversial by releasing an album of songs we're all going to want to get up and dance to, besides, what's being 47 got to do with anything? David Bowie is in his 60s and having heart attacks on stage and no one is telling him to stop, you all just hate her because she is a strong and, frankly, talented female (she's been around for 25 years, there is no way Britney will pull that off). So by hating Madonna you're doing exactly what she likes, she doesn't care if you like or hate her, aslomg as you know she's there, which, even after the poor sales of American Life we all know she's still aorund.

i love the bedtime stories album it is one of my fav and i love the song bedtime stroes and the video is just ausome. but madonna doesnt have to bring anymore albums out does she she is 47 a supererb looking women WITHOUT sergerie or botox and she owns her own record lable so she makes money from that everyone that playes her music in pubs and adverts and uses them for there own song she makes money on that then there is the cds already out she still making money on that, as wel as films and books and whatever else is out there. the last count madonna on her own without guy was worth £350 million. But she keeps doing music for her fan and the people that love her to say thankyou and i dont think she cares if it sells or not as long as the people enjoy what she has done. just think she started out with only $16 to her name now look i bow down to you madonna i really do.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I read with interest the comparisons to Kylie and 'Spinning Around'. Hmmm. I am (have been) a huge Kylie fan since she first showed up on Ramsey Street in her blue dungarees in 1988. Even through the weird mid-90's shit, I was there. She is pure, unadulterated bubble gum pop polished to perfection. She does what she does incredibly well. BUT... I am the first to admit that she is indeed a poor man's Madonna. To compare the album cover of 'Confessions...' and the vibe it exudes to 'Light Years' is like saying Moet tastes just like Asti Spumanti. This - and just about everything Madonna does - is pure class. LaChappelle, the pose, the tinted colouring... this tells us what to expect and I have no doubt it will be as fresh and revolutionary as every one of Madge's previous incarnations. 'Recycling disco'? PLEASE. Is it possible to come up with anything completely original in today's media-saturated world? All of Madonna's previous reinventions have involved intelligent riffs on the looks of past iconography. This is a woman in charge of herself, a smart and ruthlessly talented artist who knows how to deliver. And as for the negative press prior to release; well, what other album (or artist, for that matter) this year has whipped up such speculation prior to release? It's publicity, people! Genius.

madonna definitely isn't copying kylie minogue. madonna will just be tightening up the weak links that kylie failed to strengthen when she ushered the neo disco fever. watch it...come novemeber, a lot of people will be sweating it out on a new dance revolution that madonna will start. kylie and other wannabes will start to bite the dust once again. nobody comes close to the queen's throne ever yet.

I have been Madonna's fan since i was in high school. 'Like a Prayer' was my first record. All i can remember is that, there are two kind of people, one that hates her so much and that loves her. Regardless which one you are, you only make her famous than ever. She is a very smart business woman and entertainer. For all of you who says nasty thing just because of her age, remember.. you will get older too. And you better be smart and live your life and take full advantage of it just like Madonna does. In that sense, you will have to learn from her. So just shut up and enjoy her music and dance !

i thought it sounded like "Rasputin" or some other Boney M kinda shit. it works, but that's because it's been done before. don't worry kids, she'll still sell a load of cd's and mp3's and blah blah blah. if you like her, like her. if you don't don't. the true test will be whether you can play it 20 years from now and still like it / find it relevant.

I've actually heard the new song "Hung Up" and it's a first for Madge to sample another group's (Abba) song. The entire album is full of dance songs as Madonna is going back to the formula that made her. Sales of "American Life" were dismal and she realized that she had to get back to music she knew best rather than political commentary.
As for references of Kylie copying her, I have friends who are fashion sylists for both Madge and Kylie and they are actually respectful of each other. Kylie is the most popular female vocalist from Austalia and she is well received all over the world outside of the USA (until she released the album, FEVER and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" started winding up on American TV commercials). She is often refered to as the Australian Madonna just as Laura Pausini is refered to as the Italian Madonna. When a woman releases a whole bunch of pop albums that go platinum one always refers to them as a version of Madonna. So all you faux Madonna fans stop bashing other singers! Madge wouldn't! Who do you think you are? Sir Elton John?
FYI: Madonna gave Kylie's sister Dannii her music and backup vocal track to "Into The Groove" for Dannii's remix of "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling" which is on the 'NEON NIGHTS' limited edition album. Madonna also wrote and did the backup vocals for Laura Pausini's single, "Mi Abbandono A Te" from Laura's 2004 album 'RESTA IN ASCOLTO'.
As for the mp3 of Madonna saying "What the fuck do you think you're doing?", that was her reply for music pirates on the "American Life" leak.

from Madonna's official website:
Madonna has finalized the track list for her new album, "Confessions on a Dancefloor." Producer Stuart Price tells Billboard the 12-track set, due Nov. 15 via Warner Bros., is continuously mixed and that closer "Like It or Not" was the perfect choice to conclude the album.
"Basically, it's Madonna saying, 'This is who I am. This is what I do. Take it or leave it,'" Price said of the track during a Q&A earlier this week at the 12th annual Billboard Dance Music Summit in New York.
Price -- who was the musical conductor on Madonna's Re-Invention tour -- said the entire album, including the vocals, was recorded in his home studio in London. Apparently, he has a female neighbor that cries throughout the day and night. So, if you listen closely, "you may hear her on background vocals," Price said with a laugh.
The album's first single, "Hung Up," is currently featured in ads for the new Motorola/iTunes phone. The cut is available as a ringtone via MTV.com and VH1.com.
Here is the track list for "Confessions on a Dancefloor":
"Hung Up"
"Get Together"
"Sorry"
"Future Lovers"
"I Love New York'
"Let It Will Be"
"Forbidden Love"
"Jump"
"How High"
"Isaac"
"Push"
"Like It or Not"

DISC JOCKEYS from all across the U.S. converged in a small, chic backroom down at 14th Street's Lotus NYC restaurant last Wednesday afternoon. They were there to listen to three tracks from Madonna's soon-due "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album, and to meet the CD's brilliant British producer, Stuart Price. Although it was all very casual, with cocktails and munchies, the music men = and women = listened intently, in their own hectic, head-bobbing way. (And most of them looked like fresh-faced college students!) M's sound went over big time, and Grammy-winner Price, only 30 years old, was mobbed. There were at least three dozen people in this confined space. Price could hardly move from all the handshaking, shoulder slaps and hearty hugs. He is worshipped in the dance community and uses another name on some work = Jacques Le Cont. He's produced for No Doubt and many others.
Talking about the songs, Price, who also has a very naughty sense of humor, said: "When dance music was young, there was a strong vocal, and the beat was underneath. Now, the vocal is not so prominent. Madonna and I wanted to make a dance album for today, which would satisfy everybody = those who want to really hear her voice and those for whom the driving thump-thump is the thing. I think we've succeeded."
Music scribe Maggie Stein, who also writes under the nom de plume Odyssey Jones, said, "This is hopeful dance music. It has a positive message, in that it's fun. Just fun. It's what Madonna needed to do.

All these critics...my my my...how does age affect talent? When some of you get to Madonna's age will you be doing anything else better other than your usual boring 9-5 desk jobs? I think not. The lady kicks ass. The new album will kick ass. Age, broken ribs have nothing to do with the music. And all these comparisons to other artists? What gives? This is Madonna: She is Madonna. She will put out material that is nothing more than Madonna. I think sometimes some of just forget how to simply enjoy it. Thank god the critics on here are not making music. I would be bored to tears.
We'll enjoy the material released in Novemeber by Madonna regardless of these null and void negative postings.

Americans have no right to be dissing Kylie Minogue. Outside of the US, Kylie is as big as Madonna...PERIOD. It's too bad that radio in the US hasn't picked up Kylie throughout her incredible career, hence why many of you don't know what your talking about.
Madonna and Kylie are equally my favorite artists. I can't wait for Confessions! :) SOUNDS HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Madonna for making us all talk about her. All bad publicity is publicity afterall and is nothing compared to the love and fascination she inspire from people. Have you ever been to one of her concerts? She is a living legend and one who never went downhill. Iconic, that's what she's telling us from the front cover of Confessions. The rest of the operation is "enough" (crap), she wants us to go back being optimists and positive, she wants to make us sing and dance. Thank-you Madonna.

Why do people say that American Life was a political record. The only thing political was the video for American Life, which turned so many people off here in America, we haven't even been able to see it. They saw the news stories about the video and dismissed it as political dissent. Thats why the album has this negative stigma. The actual song, Amerian Life was social not political commentary. The album is actually a really great piece of work. Lyrically, it contained various subject matter including romantic and biographical, and its sound was like nothing else every before or since. Look, the whole thing is available on itunes, so try listening to it.

from undercover.com:
Madonna announced at Live 8 that the album will be called 'Confessions On A Dancefloor'. It will be the follow-up to the poorly received 2003 album 'American Life'.
The timing of the release of the anti-Bush 'American Life' was unfortunate as America went to war with Iraq just as the video for the single depicting Madonna's anti war stance was released.

Madonna is brilliant and creative. She is the queen of the dancefloor and has been since 1982. She's mastered it, conquered it time and time again.

Uhh - it's not an ABBA "rip-off," it's called a SAMPLE. Madonna SAMPLED a portion of an ABBA song for this single. People do it all the damn time. I have nothing but LOVE for a woman who is still evolving artisticly, intellectually, and spiritually. Why would anyone choose to bring her down when her spirit is so alive in this lifetime?
Why do we not all learn to just simply be inspired by her and support her music and her message...all MADONNA fans lets try to spread her message as best as we can because LOVE CONQUERS HATE!
I was fortunate to see her twice in concert in Toronto and the energy of the stadium was unbelievably positive!

I accepted myself for what I am thanks to Madonna.
I have been objective and critic when I did not approve an album or a song, but why, damn you all, WHY the same people who loved her, who followed her, who were proud to be her fan are now shitting her? Is that fashion victims result? Does it make you feel more "en vogue" than one keeping on thinking the same things for 20years? are you just having fun with this website or do you really think that? I can't believe it.

How funny it is to see how ENVIOUS LOSERS who don't do anything with their lives tear Madonna apart. How easy it is to forget that she's been a trendsetter since the 80's and that, with incredible business sense, she has successfully marketed herself to the point of becoming a influential social/fashion/entertainment figure (not no mention FILTHY RICH). How many of you LOSERS can say that you have achieved such success? I DIDN'T THINK SO!!!
Anyway, you'll be the ones buying her music and kissing her ass when this new album and singles top the charts. See you at the music stores you hypocrites!!!

btw-- how is KYLIE?-- isn't she battling breast cancer?

Kylie is undergoing chemotherapy, and is said to be doing well. Madonna was one of the fist to send her love and best wishes toward Kylie when the news of her cancer was out. If fact, madonna always very thoughtful and gracious about these things as she was the first to phone Donatella Vercace when news of her Brother's death was released. Although people love to hate her, she is NEVER and has never been one who has anything negative to say about any other artist, although others (ie..Mariah, Elton John, Janet Jackson) have said harsh things directed towards her.) She's always been very gracious, and not much of a Diva (just looked and performed like one :) If only everyone was as respectful, the world would be a much nicer place.

I am delighted that Madonna has released another album.. sorry how many is it now? cant wait to hear every track !
As for this 'who copied whom'... I do believe this little tradition has been going on for many a century now, do you research as Gwen Stefani may not be as original as you think have a look through some old Vivien Westwood books.
GO MADONNA, GO KYLIE!!
They are doing something right to be going the longest and to get you pack on mongrels to talk about them so much! When is your album being released by the way?......never!

Hello- I'm actually looking forward to this new album. I have been seriously enjoying her work since 'Ray Of Light' immensely. Before then, it was pretty hit or miss w/me though I always respected her "being". My taste in musick leans more towards artists like Siouxsie, Lydia Lunch, Jarboe, Ann Magnuson and Diamanda Galas (as far as females go) and Swans, Butthole Surfers, Coil, Current 93, and Psychic TV/Throbbing Gristle/Thee Majesty (basically N-E-Thing Genesis P.Orridge has a hand in)- that sort of more obscure and darker, heavy and psychOdelicate audio orgasm-inducer type of stuff!
BTW- to the person who wrote this quote:
"so glad I wasn't the only one that noticed the blatant Abba rip off.
Posted by: jenny at September 19, 2005 11:41 PM" I thought you might like to know it's NOT a "rip-off", just a sample AND, she is THEE ONLY other artist besides (name escapes me- one of those "happy/hippie-like, r&b type" groups from the '90s who ABBA has EVER ALLOWED to sample any of their songs- they are not big on people using samples at all, esp. of their work and are very protective/selective when it comes to an offer. Guess they have some appreciation/respect for her to allow her thee "honour". It's "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" and that's how I feel about this album- I want it NOW! At least I'd like to hear the first single or something ASAP. Not sure where or if I can even find it yet- have had no luck thus far- if anyone knows, please email me at: lsdiva@sbcglobal.net and let me know what to do/where to go to hear N-E-Thing from this album. Thanks and my best to all.
Kindest regards,
Mr. Stacy/elLiSDiva

Any one with have a brain, only needs to look at her fabulous body of work and longevity in this buisness to see how amazing of a talent she is. Can't wait for the new album! I just love what I heard so far, "Hung Up", is going to be great!!! take it from me, I will be 39 years old, on the 15th of October. So, I know what to expect, anyone who disagrees, please get a life.

Madonna continues to be an influential force in pop culture. During her career, she has been hated and loved by millions of people around the world. Most will admit that Madonna is one smart woman.
At this point, Madonna has become a fixture in not only music history, but world history. It is hard to imagine another female entertainer creating such a stir as she has during the past 20 odd years. She will influence many others in the future and show us all how to sustain a successful career in any field.

Hey ......
Awsome record! Now just to put the record straight, Madonna wore hot-pants before Kylie was even born and talking of copying....most of Miss Minogue's stuff has followed in a very Madonna style 2 years down the line.
By sampling the Abba tune, Madonna (i think) recognises another piece of fantastic work! Gives it a 2nd chance one could almost say.
I rest my case....

Listen Up...Talk all the shit u want..yes she is gettting older but that dosent mean she cant come out with music. Hate all u want on her. But she is very capable of her abilities to create something for ones who like her. She has been a presence in my youth and i followed her from the first album not knowing what kind of impact she would of made. she is someone who lives in the world like all of us .. one thing is she is doing despite what some may wish

Madonna is like a virus, but in a good sense: she lives thanks to other lifes.
at this time, she would never be succesful again without copying debbie harry, cindy lauper, allison goldfrapp or kylie minogue
but actually, she is all them together multiplied by 100000.
i like her a lote.

How dare you IDIOTS say "Hung Up" is a Rip Off of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! by Abba? Does anyone out there know the term SAMPLING? A lot of the music out there has samples. Hmmmm....let's see, over 90% of certain trash called "Gangsta" Rap & Rap (which by the way it is not music, just a rip off of songs from the past 3-4 decades and a way for people without talent or creativity to bark about shit no one except criminals cares about) samples old tunes. Enough said about that.
A lot of artists have, in one way or another, sampled someone else's tunes. You hear them in the clubs, you hear them on the radio, you download them all the time.
I have been lucky to have listened to 3 versions of "Hung Up" and they are SICK (YES, they are that GOOD)!!! Outside Erasure & Abbacadabra, among others, she is the only performer who has been able to sample Abba & Stuart Price has done an outstanding job at using these samples tastefully (Stuart, after listening to your mixes of "Avalon" by Juliet and "Four to the Floor" by Starsailor I must say I'm hooked!). Just wait until it hits the clubs, even our dead gradpas will be shaking their asses in their graves.
Anyway, Madonna reigns supreme over copycats & wannabes, in more ways than one.
Again, how many of you have achieved as much as Madonna has? Hmmmm...I didn't think so.
And it all started with a girl who moved to New York City with just $60 dollars in her pocket and without a place to live...

Since High School I've been, so snobish about music, and throw bands out like paper towels. By the way, my band of the moment is White Rose Movement (check them out), but whenever a new Madonna album comes out I go into total M mode. I get obsessed all over again. Bands like She Wants Revenge, Lake Trout and Primal Scream just got bumped back in my Library to make room for all my old Madonna faves. I've worshiped every M album since I was 6 years old and got the "True Blue" vinal record for Christmas, now I'm 26 and next month I'm getting Confessions on itunes as soon as its out! No matter where I am, her voice is always home.

if there's one thing she's proved is that whatever people think of her, they still can't stop talking aboout her.that's all she really wants. to be remembered as a revolutionary, a pioneer in pop music.she proved that with everything from like a prayer to the sex book.
she's got like 50some hit singles, she deserves the credit already. besides, stu price (aka jaques lucont) has been turning out the hottestm remixes of the last 2 or 3 years: starsailor, the killers, juliet, scissor sisters,no doubt, missy, goldfrapp, new order...confessions is gonna rock!!! hung up's hot, and she is the first artist that abba has allowed to sample direct. it's retro, and it's new. i'm sorry i may be from america but i know kylie minogue very well. in fact i like her too. i listened to her from her very first single "i should be so lucky". considering the fact that i have witnessed this aussie girl's career blossom, i knew she could acheive her iconic status...only if she creates her own formula and imagery. i have seen four of her concert videos and they are very reflective of madonna's concept. her fever 2002 concert has a very striking resemblance to madonna's drowned world-concept wise. if kylie could find her own way of artistic expression...only then can her name stand all on it's own. otherwise she will most of the time be referred to as a madonna wanna be. no offense meant to avid kylie minogue fans (I BELIVE IN YOU vid had kylie do so much hand/arm gestures which is very madonna but GIVING YOU UP is cool). and to kylie- get well soon.
and oh, ms carey: you should have stuck to ur original formula. the " love takes time" days. why shift to the " OMG who-is-ur-stylist-shake it-off image. that way u can grow old singing high octave ballads 'till u grow old. and age gracefully.

I want to make a serious post here. I will say that I have been a fan for 21 years and for a good reason. She puts out good shit and that's the bottom line. I don't know Stuart Price or what kind of producer he is, however, I do know Madonna's track record and there isn't much he could get away with musically without her imput. Which many well respected procuders have referred to her as a brillian woman when it comes to sound and music, and her track record proves that. As far as her age, how many 47 year olds in the work force today do you know are ready to retire and why should she be any different only because she happens to be a celebrity. Where in the "pop" rule books does it say there is a cutt off age for making music. That's crazy! Look at the Rolling Stones. They still rock (although I'm not a fan) and they've got to be in their mid sixties at least. Also, most of you have only heard a clip. Search some Madonna sites where the song is being played in clubs and the response is insane. Like her or not, for what ever reason, she is going to ultimately decide when it's time to call it quits. She is an excellent role model for women getting older. It's always ok to be sexy, and she is!! So no she isn't giving head to coke bottles anymore (I will admit those were some exciting time), but she's grown as a person and has much more confidence in herself now than she did then. Did you hear the singing on her last tour...Amazing, and she was never really known for having a very good voice. I'm telling you, there was a reason she was given the name Madonna other than the fact that it was her mothers name. She was put here to make this mark on the world I truly believe that. This song is going to going to be a hit I can feel it. This album is going to be a hit as well. She has one more record to complete before she ends her deal with WBR, and who knows, she may do something different. One thing is for sure, she'll always be doing something. Finally I will say that Madonna is the Queen of pop, and will oficially get that title. She revolutionized the music industry when she came out, and no one since has made such an impact.

I've been a big madonna fan for years. I even got American Life. But serously Madonna is starting to become annoying. The Gap/versace/motorola commercials, lame, specially coming from madonna who presented herself in American Life as anti stablishment, this is just hipocracy without sense of humor. Then the britney kiss, thats just lowering herself, cause we all know that Britney sucks. Madonna really wants attention and she is desperate, even to the point to make children's books. And I've heard she is getting a children's clothing line, I'm sorry this sounds less Madonna, more Jlo, we are losing her. And now, Madonna after a long creative career, she plays a song with obvious demos and stupid lyrics. I'm sorry but this new song sounds unispired and not very Madonna.Abba did it better, and know it doesn't sound like Goldfrapp, because they are great and this is not.I say Kylie should be the new Madonna, its her turn now. This new song is just needy, corporate, kaballah bullshit mother esther. And the cover come on, I expected more from madonna. We know she is getting old, why not celebrate it. Now all we get is a obviosly digitally fixed bad picture. Madonna should just retire, or really get her shit together, and remember that above all she use to be an artist, not just another product.

I think you're taking this way too seriously. Madonna has returned to the dancefloor to make a feelgood dance pop album. Big deal, it's a fun song. I personally liked the American life cd and prefer Madonna when she's being more experimental and artistic, but it's her turn to reinstate herself as the queen of dancepop, and why it should bother some of you so is absurd. And useless, the irony being that it will no doubt completely outsell American Life. Whatever, I'm having a blast with this new cd already. That any of you would be ageist is really disturbing, and if she wants to have an airbrushed cover, I think most young stars these days airbrush covers. Um.... have a look at the goldfrapp cover, why dont you (helloooooo airbrush). It's hardly an earth shattering moment when a star is airbrushed. Madonna has inspired me alot over the years - not just creatively, but just as a human being. And she still does. Good on 'ya Maddy!

According to the architecture outlined in the Drummond/Cauty classic "The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way", this song follows all of THE GOLDEN RULES to the letter. It will undoubtedly be a smash hit in the UK, if not across the board.
Excerpt from [http://www.tomrobinson.com/work/klf.htm]
"Firstly, it has to have a dance groove that will run all the way through the record and that the current 7" buying generation will find irresistible. Secondly, it must be no longer than three minutes and thirty seconds (just under 3'20 is preferable). If they are any longer Radio One daytime DJs will start fading early or talking over the end, when the chorus is finally being hammered home - the most important part of any record. Thirdly, it must consist of an intro, a verse, a chorus, second verse, a second chorus, a breakdown section, back into a double length chorus and outro. Fourthly, lyrics. You will need some, but not many."

just a note to let everyone know: HUNG UP IS NOT A COVER SONG. it uses one keyboard arrangement from the intro and chorus of abba's gimme gimme gimme. one simple riff. the new song hints at nostalgia. once again, madonna takes something old and makes it new again. if anything, it's a compliment to abba. they will probably make more royalties off hung up than they did with gimme gimme gimme. everyone just shut up, listen to the song (it's on the radio now) and feel good. that's all madonna wants. (and to be loved and make lots of cash, too, of course!!) enjoy, all you fans that have been waiting since last summer's tour to see madonna shake it again! LOVES IT!

nice tune, cute lyrics, but my impression is that is more of a sampled madonna flavored consumer product created by greedy managers who wants to ride on the itunes wagon and make more money. Madonna started out with shallow lyrics, then turned deeper and deeper, "reinventing" what those happy tunes meant and giving them new meaning. My favorite example is the song called "Secret". Madonna gave new deeper religous meaning to this song during te music tour on the live concerts. It really hit me. Freakin genious.
Listening to "Hung Up" to me Madonna is falling back to the shallow lyrics, dumb beat that is easy for the dj's to mix with anything, and honestly it sounds like 1 in a million. I am sure this album will sell. It was designed to sell. by any means. The sad thing is that it will sell only because it has a madonna label on it, not because the real madonna is in it......

OMG!! I'm soo lovin' her new stuff... "Hung up" was awesome... it's like a retro-electronica at its finest. About Kylie & Madge feud, I think Kylie had created her identity in this business already w/ the released of her "Fever"... i must say, She gained a huge reputation & my respect to her w/ that album for it was a fresh electronica concept... It's just that they're being pitted together for they're the only 2 survivors from the disco 80's era that still casting enchantment w/ their music to us until now & the fact they are in the same genre in electronica (mainstream electro-pop)...
meanwhile, Time goes by so slowly.....

After reading many postings, some positive and some negative, I must say that Madonna is a great performer and artist - always interesting. I know we all struggle from time to time, but she has had her share of hard times coming up. Instead of poking fun at her and other pop stars, such as Britney, Ashley Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, etc., we should be happy to see that they are realizing their dreams. I probably should not have compared her to them, but you get the idea.
Music is about having fun and not about being a serious artist all the time because being too serious can seem pretentious and become boring. Rather or not you think she is smart or talented, she is still here. Give her credit, and give her a break. You don't see Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston doing it like Madonna, and they have wonderful voices. It's not always all about the voice. Congratulations, Madonna, on remaining a top priority in the marketing department of Warner Bros. and on your out of this world career.

I have been a Modonna fan since Burning Up in '83. I am 42. I heard Hung Up and have played it a thousand times on Madonna.com. I have not been this excited about a Madonna song since Open Your Heart and before that Get into the Groove. On both those occasions I knew immediately they were going to be huge songs. I feel that way about Hung Up. I really hope in shoots to number 1 but I am not excited about the video because it has been at least a dozen years since she has looked hot. She could be hot again but she'd have to sse a plastic surgeon for a good rejuvination job - which she is too proud to do. But when I listen to Madonna on Hung Up, I think of Madonna at 28. Hey, you gotta use your imagination creatively!

kylie minogue topped the billboard hot 100 chart barely twice with locomotion and can't get you out of my head. she really hasn't conquered the globe yet. iconic? not yet. ironic? most likely.
just because her neo disco fever did cause a landmark in pop music, that still isn't a reason to brag that she has done so much of a change in the music soundscape. i suggest she finds herself an artistic/creative expression more different from the queen.

I have loved Madonna since she started - i heard hung up yesterday and I loved it - I love the way she continually varies her work think ray of light think music think american life and now confessions.
She is always willing to take chances, and even though they don't always work - that is the point. life is all about taking chances, taking risks, trying new things and how many times haven't you fallen flat on your face - you get right up and start over again (now why does that sound slighly familiar?)
if you don't like madonna - don't buy the music, turn the tv and radio off - try knitting, try macrame - if you do then get ready for another round - good or bad she keeps stepping up and that is the real lesson.
the bonus is that you learn the lesson but on a dancefloor!! :)

okay, on AL Madonna's been serious and she has been almost eaten alive, made fun of ( by those bomb iraq psychos mainly ). now she's done something fun, relaxing ( but not stupid, why do people think intelectuals can't go party and have fun ? ).
so no philosophy this time. okay, as long as it's good. and this is good. brilliant. the abba sample gives new meaing to sample use. till today unknown songs were used as sample... now we have something we know well...
yesterday, I was down, and this song cheered me up. so together with Ray of Light, Love Profussion, La Isla Bonits, etc. this is gonna be song for my blues.
and to her new color ? DAMN, she looks good even in red hair and wearing pink, which is no-no to the rest of us mortals.
thank you Madonna!!!

Just been reading all the comments as I'm bored at work in london.
Ok, where to begin.
First of all, Madonna is only the 2nd artist to be given permission to sample Abba - the first was the Fugees who sampled The Name Of The Game for their Rumble in the Jungle tune.
For those who have decided to slag Abba off (not many, I grant you), you ought to read the interview Madge gave about how she had to BEG them to let her use the sample (and they didn't give her an answer immediately) as she respects their music and their talents so much.
Benny & Bjorn eventually agreed as they had heard the propossed track and thought it was perfect. They equally have mutual respect for Madonna and all her achievements.
Which brings me to my next point - what about that word "respect"? As some of you have said, Kylie and Madge share a mutual respect for each other. Neither wants to be the other as they are artists in their own right. Shame that some of the comments couldn't share that respect rather than simply slagging one or the other off.
There is enough room in the music industry for both and, let's face it, the industry needs them both as there seems to be a distinct lack of talent out there with the potential for longevity (which both K and M have managed - which should be aplauded and not derided).
I am simply a fan of music and straight away can appreciate the new track, which, being honest, is made all the more special by the choice of sample (she's a canny one that Madge!).
Just sit back and enjoy. If it ain't your cup of tea, then "Push The Button!"
(That will make no sense to anyone in America as it's the current No. 1 in the UK - and finally, I've just got back from a trip to Carolina - love your country - love the people - hope to be back soon)

i have heard only a brief sample of her new single "hung up" on the insider last night. from what i heard, it sounds great. i cant wait for the album to be released. Madonna is so great and influential in so many ways. kylie has nothing on her. i dont have all of her albums, but from the ones i have they are great. not one of them sucks (though i dont like the album "Music" that much, its still good). I like the way she keeps reinventing herself. you go girl. let me just say this though:
to people who think her last album "American Life" was a big disappointment, you all obviously are crazy. IT IS NOT anti-American in anyway, (and i live in america) so just ignore the critics, listen to the album, cuz your missing out on some great work. especially the song "Nothing fails"

Madonna has been the most intriguing pop star for over 20 years now. People bag on her for everything and the latest rage is to bag on her for living to 47 without quitting.

-time goes by so slowly for those who wait
-and those who run seem to have all the fun
both are lines from love song, her duet with prince from the like a prayer album.
from everything i've read about this upcoming album, it's full of disco samples and throwbacks to her career. it sounds like its going to be the best album she's ever made and a real tribute to her fans.

kylie rules... period??? pointless!!! when madonna is at kylie's age now, she had pushed a lot of people's buttons already (definitely including kylie's) and hell more assertive, provocative, creative, beautiful and smart.
kylie is a nobody in the USA while madonna is bigger where kylie minogue is big, beat that! and kylie re-invents where madonna had left off...s_ck_r!
madonna is awesome on stage while kylie looks like a dumb and stiff barbie doll. amen

i cant get over how many people wont leave her alone, if u dont like what she does, then fuckoff already. life is more than about criticizing others. especially when u have had over 60 top 40 hits. who has done that? nooooooooobody! anyone even dare to come close would be elvis presley and the beatles and most of them are dead, so for 47. she will easily become as she already is, the queen of pop and the most influential and inspiring act, single or group, in modern culture and contemporary culture. not bad for someone who had ambition and 35 dollars to her name when she came to nyc, i love her and her new album is going to redefine her as the queen of pop. not that she never lost that title. but just to prove a point to those skanky haters out there that insist that janet jackson (cant sing if her life depended on it), whitney houston (mrs crackhead bobby brown), kylie minogue (wish i could get her out of my head),scary mariah carey. the skank that she is, so ghetto , its not funny anymore, and jlo. who cant sing a note if whe was in a kindergarten choir class, that the true and only talent, all around, is madonna. good luck if these other skanks will surpass madonnas chart history. NOT GONNA HAPPEN, AND IF IT DOES, MADONNAS RICHER AND SMARTER, AND DOESNT HAVE TO MARRY TOMMY MOTOLLA FROM SONY. OR MARRY DRUG ADDICT BOBBY BROWN, OR JUMP FROM SKANK TO SKANK, ERHM BEN AFFLECK, MARC ANTHONY. THE LIST GOES ON FOR THAT J HOSE BAG,

Well, I grew up on rock and roll and was part of the crowd that dissed Madonna in her earliest years, but secretly listened to and watched and danced to everyone of her videos. And couldn't wait to see what she would do next. I grew out of my "hate Madonna" stage around 1986, thank God, and just gave in to fact that NO ONE has done quite the way she does. If you have never seen her perform, then you have no idea just how talented she is. Each and every one of her albums had purpose. Some were fun, some were more serious, but they all had heart and were all amazing in their own special way. Ray of Light, to me, is one of the top best 10 all around albums that I have ever heard. American Life grows on me each day - I truly believe it came out about 2 years ahead of its time - she always paves the way. How COULD Madonna copy anyone? She had done it all and has done it first.
And why is it such a crime to grow old? Madonna is a strikingly beautiful woman, and her spirituality and good living is quite evident in her exhurberance.
I look forward to hearing all of Confessions. I believe that it will be a smash hit for her - but I also will miss the more serious songs of American Life - and cudos to those who saw the truth behind her "rap". It was so obvious to anyone with an open mind.
Peace

What's all the hype about the new track "HUNG UP"..
Reality is..
It's An ABBA song redone!!!
What's so Madonna about it?
Throughout the song, it's heavily cries out: ABBA.
Madonna is lagging in originality.. and so is her lagging looks...
Score = 0
What's with madonna? She adamantly changed her name to Esther because of its forcefulness of the Name.. Why is she still using "madonna'?
Why is "Madonna" "Esther" whatever, protecting her kids from never watching tv, or any ther medium? It's because Madonna's wild0side past history... She was a slut, bitch, authority-killer... No wonder she wants to shield her kids of all that badness...
Score = 0
"Toronto" is an example of someone who'd dissatisfied with themselves, so they're constantly searching for negative things to say about others, and like most, their assumptions are ignorant.
In truth Madonna shields her children from television because television (these days especially) is absorbed in superficiality, and celebrity. Knowing that their mother is one of the biggest celebrities, she doesn't want to confuse them. Additionally, Madonna herself was not allowed to watch television growing up, so she's raising her children the same way, and as a result, they've always got their faces in books, and are very intellectually advanced for their ages. I mean, Lourdes speaks fluent French and her English vocabulary is superb.
As for the name "Esther," this is something private and spiritual for her, but publicly and amongst her family and friends, her name hasn't changed.
And once and for all, Madonna is not or has never been a slut. She's an artist, therefore what she is expressing through her public persona is not a representation of the real Madonna. Unfortunately, "Toronto" most people are like you....simple minded and unable to understand such things, so don't think that you're original or anything.

To Duran... funny, your first words to "Toronto" as "he searching and finding negative things to say about others" You, Duran just played the part of "searching and write a negative about others" yourself...
She may have not been a "slut", but I'm sure "Toronto" used the wrong word , but everything else i find accepted..
Hey Duran... Chill...
Remember "Truth or Dare", The phallatio act of downing a beer bottle? and She performs a masturbatory act onstage (In Toronto concert), She's a Control Freak to others example, Warren Beaty, The bad-monthing "MuthaFucka -- wonder, does Madonna kiss her dad with that mouth of hers or her husband? She's Stuck Up, remember a childhood friend came to visit her? Wow, how rude was that Scene??
And her infamous "Sex" book... well most pages says it all...
So, "Toronto" is right.. The movie and book says it all!!!! Now Madonna is a mature, responsible person living peacefully in a new century -- with so called new point of views... A new-born Madonna to preace on her new religion to others...(By the way, She now says having materidal things are not important, yet, she lives the opulent life -- last I read and seen..
A new Madonna is shielding her kids from a past of inappropriate actions she once protrayed in the camera eye.
Remember, Madonna Kids Grown, all kids grow up... And one day, Her Kids will finally realized how "bitchy, rude, demanding, pushy, self-righteous, appalling, belittling others, and insufferable.
I like Madonna, but why do People put her on a golden pedestal and threat her like a deity? She's just another singer, an actor(-ress) (a bad one at that, except for Desp.Seeking Susan-- my opinion)... The only people that should pray for Madonna is the Real Madonna, Jesus' Mother...

to me, madonna's reason for not letting her children
watch tv is because she wants her children to think outside the box, hone their imagination and grow up to be creative. tv is helpful once the basics are learned raw at a young age. i accept the fact that discovering and utilizing one's creativity on their own starting at a very young age makes a person more
creative and helps develop one's sense of individuality/identity. madonna is not stupid to not accept the fact that one day soon her children will discover her not so glamorous past. but since she is trying to cultivate her children to become logical individuals by "feeding" them with more substantial learning tools i.e books rather than tv and tabloid magazines, i'm sure her children will understand that after all she is still a human being.

I've often had mixed feelings about Madonna. At times I've found her overwhelming arrogance (especially in those early days) to be irritating, her sexuality nothing more than a pose calculated to provoke those easily thrilled. There is nothing particularly ingenious about parading sex for monetary gain...most women do just that. There is nothing positive nor heroic about being a slut. However, no other woman in recent history has been as successful in doing so. As for her musical ability, I've never found her voice alone to be all that. But Madonna isn't reknowned for her pipes so much as her ability to surround (read exploit the talents of) herself with some of the hottest producers, writers, and musicians. If it weren't for the sounds created by Jelly B., etc., doubtfully she'd have broken through. I just don't feel anything in her voice other than showbiz and posteuring...no real passion or emotion...just "glamor". The thought of her being truly into S&M (as inferred in her SEX book) seems laughable. I think her truest, closest to her spirit, artistic statement was made in Material Girl where she detailed her career plan of using men to get over. Bravo. No wonder she has such affection for that mummy, Saint Whore Eva P. Her flirtation with spirituality of the Hebrew flavor I find rather gimmicky and false as well. By the way, what happened to Esther...stink too much of motzah balls? Well, I guess she IS hollywood afterall. But what I find really amusing is her appearance in this pic. Yes she is still physically hot, but spiritually vaccuous. It puts me immediately in mind of John's description of the Whore of Babylon from Revelation 17, wearing scarlet and purple and encrusted in jewels. Doubt it's intentional, those fun loving Kabbalah folks don't seem to ever get past those first five books in the Bible.
As for those of you who think that listing her impressive career of number one singles and multimillion selling albums somehow proves her greatness. It doesn't. It does, however, prove her popularity. But it was also once popular for the ignorant to believe the world was flat. In closing, I don't begrudge her her money nor fame, she's entitled to it. That's alot of work fucking and fucking over that great of a crowd.

OK guys, lets talk about some important recent news: Hung Up is FALLING in the American charts. It debuted at 20 on the top 100 (Billboard) and in the second week dropped to 21. Ok, that is not a big drop but the song dropped in many Billboard categories this week. This does not bode well for the song. I am a big fan and a little upset. I really wanted Hung Up to go number 1. Anyway, I supect the song will do better in Europe and everywhere else and I am sure with the great CD reviews the CD will still go multi-platinum but I may not see the big comeback I wanted..:(

Madonna, is amazing. And this album is amazing. She works very hard in what she does. PLUS she writes her own music, unlike some of these other entertainers. Her concerts are off the chain, and unforgetable. She has the talent to use her work as a artform as a performance artist. When she's with her kids and husband, she's a regular mom and wife. But when she presents herself to us she's a Goddess and a force that can't be tested.
People can learn alot from this smart woman.

This is in response to gat about Mariah washing the "washed out Madge". Did you see Madonna's performance at the EMA's, and have you ever seen Mariah try to dance, quite funny. It's all marketing and Industry is trying to build up Mariah, but Madonna is and always was a fighter. Hung Up is getting recognized, and Mariah is getting scared. She's already trying to release another song. I also want to ad that Mariah can not sing, she oversings and whines. If it wasn't for We Belong Together, this album would be nowhere. She just got lucky. Madonna is number one around the world right now and will continue to climb the charts here. And according to sources, Hung Up isn't amoung the strongest of songs on her album. Everyone can have their opinion on Madonna but her track records speak for themselves. And as for her looks, she is still as sexy as she ever was. I also want to laugh at the walker remark. She has a body that works better than most people in their twenties, and she'll probably outlive them too! Madonna won't be around forever. In fact, she only has one more album to complete her contract with WBR. She'll do her farewell tour long before Cher did hers I'm sure of it. And we'll remember all of the Madonna's of the past. She will go down in history as the most influencial artist in the pop industry. No one can do what she has done.

To PeterNeal, let me rephrase a comment from another Madonna thread:
I think it's hilarious that some people have this quasi-intellectual need for everything to be relevant and profound to come out from all of Madonna's body of work. And for what? So they can feel good about themselves and feel superior? So that they can discuss over coffee (or tea) Madonna's hidden meanings in her songs/books and the amazing barriers she has broken? Surely, she has made records and movies that weren’t anywhere near what the public demands from her. That's not her problem! She's an artist and her track record speaks volumes of the personal highs which she celebrates (in her music), and of the personal shit that she needed to wade through.
Apparently, some of her work may be remedial and freshman-ish, some covertly sexual (particularly her Sex/Erotica phase), but when has Madonna been super deep? Like A Prayer? Ray of Light? Maybe. How about American Life?
The point is, Madonna’s not a poet. She’s a fantastic pop culture machine. I love her, but to think she’s spitting out really deep shit, or to expect she should spit out really deep shit, is really stupider than stupid.

Let's quick talking about crap and talk about this and what it means for Madonna's popularity in the US.

I agreed with Jac, why her song goes down from 20 to 21, and this week is 28
I am not so much against her, but truthfully she is not my cup of tea, her voice is too weak, I prefer singers with real voice like WH, Celion Dion and many others
Also Madonna seems a very cold blood woman, not a warm person, cold blood, no feelings, rude and aggressive
I dont feel she is a good mother and wife and warm person
I dont like her as well as all her material plans

Come on people. Those of you who hate Madonna and slag her off give her more publicity and attention. She always said she wanted to conquer the World, musically speaking shes done that. You can Never knock her talent and drive, no other artist has the determination she has.To be still going strong after 20 years proves she has more talent than most of you could dream of having.
To continue knocking her and slagging her off shows that she is doing something right why else would you waste your time talking about her.
GET A LIFE MADONNA WILL ALWAYS BEEN THE QUEEN OF POP AND THERE AINT NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT SO WHY WASTE YOUR TIME.

I agree with Mark that Madonna comes off awful as a person in interviews. Very cold. Sometimes she does not and when that happens I am so glad because I feel OK again aboout being a fan. And I also agree with Mark that her singing live is horrible. She is a recording artist, a great voice is not required for that. But I like ALL her CDs and have then all. I very much like her music and have for 22 years now. I am hating her 70's garb. It looks AWFUL! So love boat. It is truly ridiculous. I have enjoyed streaming her new CD on MTV.com and will buy the CD on Tuesday.
I think for me as a Madonna fan she is a symbol of what is possible with diligence and hard work. She has done wonders with at best an average voice. She took an average looking body in 1984 and made it one of the best bodies in the entertainment industry for 2 decades - all through persistent never ceasing diet and exercise. Jessica Simpson could not stay skinny for 6 months, and Madonna has for DECADES. Madonna has a very average face but for all of the 80's even made that appear great looking too. Yeah, she's a cold bitch but as a role model for hard work, I am proud to be a fan and I dig her music!

I've been reading some of the posts here, and I must say she continues to attract friends and foes alike to these websites. That is a Madonna trade mark you know lol. I've had the opportunity to listen to the album at MTV's the leak, and it is excellent. Technically she is no Kelly Clarkston or Celine Dion and she never claimed to be. She even admitted to not having the best voice or not being the best dancer. What she does do is try and be innovative and different. She's contributed a lot to the music industry because she is very smart and knows how to promote herself and face it, she has been consistent for the most part in putting out some pretty great pop songs. This album is no exception. My personal favorite for a future single is How High. That song is pure energy from beginning to end. It was produced by Bloodshy and Avant. Anyone, even those here who aren't crazy about her, take a listen to it. It really is good. As far as her chart successes go here in America, she really isn't doing that bad. Her digital downloads are great. She is currently back at number three on the US I tunes download chart and her videos are doing great on VH1 and MTV's TRL. There is just a lot of competition out there and Hung Up, although it's a kick ass dance song, doesn't really make much of a statement, and the US market is flooded with R&B and Rock (which are cool too). She does however have future singles comming out that are true to form. Sorry is excellent! I don't know where people get the idea that she is old and haggard lol, why because she is 47? She's got a great body and is still beautiful. In fact, her look has gotten a lot softer as she's aged. I think she looks better. And if being driven has to be mistaken for being a cold bitch so be it. I'm happy just to have had the opportunity to listen to her for all these years. She may not produce the number ones or top tens she use to here in the US, but this album is going to sell very well, here and world wide. And rightfully so! I challenge anyone who likes dance music (but who claim to dislike Madonna) to go on MTV, the leak and take a listen to her album. Listen to it a couple times in fact. You'll like it more each time. She is so unique in her ability to stir things up by making music that is different and great. She is often ridiculed for constantly going against the grain, but that is one of the qualities that I love about her. My personal favorites on the album are Sorry, Forbidden Love, How High, Future Lovers and Hung Up.

A beautiful singing voice doesn't necessarily have to be powerful. I think it's stupider than stupid to equate voice quality with how high (or loud) one can sing! Madonna's voice has evolved through the years, and if you try and listen very closely, she actually has a beautiful and distinct singing voice, and dare I say, a powerful one too! No, not as high as Celine's or Mariah's, but powerful nonetheless. Her Evita album is particularly noteworthy to stress this point.
And Madonna is always constantly trying new things, re-inventing herself, whether it sells or not. Prior to her 1983 debut, she was into punk rock (The Emmys) which flowed over into her first studio (pop/dance) album, Madonna. In her sophomore effort, she was pure pop/boy toy princess ala sex kitten/Marilyn Monroe in Like a Virgin. She continued on and morphed into a platinum blonde with True Blue, and was crowned dance diva with Into the Groove and the You Can Dance anthology. Like A Prayer saw her sporting her naturally dark hair, with a dig at the gospel-inspired title track and some soul (Express Yourself). I'm Breathless paved the way for her to sample Broadway as inspired by the film Dick Tracy. Erotica (and her Sex book) was infamously labeled her Sex phase which ushered in her own version of a rap ("talk-sing"). She "talked-sang" as early as Till Death Do Us Part (in Like A Prayer) but officially started the "genre" with Justify My Love and Rescue Me which capped off the Immaculate Collection. In Bedtime Stories, she tried R&B. Again, Broadway beckoned and she was transformed into Evita in the film version by Alan Parker. By 1998, she was into electronica with Ray of Light (Orbit), which concluded with Music (Mirwais). American Life was more somber and incorporated a little folk, i.e., folktronica. She now comes full circle with a return to her dance roots with Confessions On A Dance Floor. Diversity, innovativeness, freshness, versatility, and a fucking point of view... only Madonna!
I don't expect COADF to do very well in the US, though it won't necessarily do badly. US radio stations are very hip-hop/R&B friendly and Madonna is certainly not that. She definitely will still sell records but she can't chart in Billboard unless radio stations play her. She still has a substantive fan base in the US but that alone will not sustain her. She will, however, sell big worldwide, without a doubt!
About her being 47, so what? That in itself is an achievement, still looking great at that age! Only Madonna can wear leotards and get away with it, hahaha! And to all you ageists out there, grow up! You know why some people grow old? It's because they feel they should give up things as they grow old (as in, I'm too old for this; I'm too old for that). Actually, they grow old precisely because they give up things. And Madonna has never felt the need to not dance and not sing, not get up and do her thing, even at 47!

If you notice in the COADF album credits, only ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme" was acknowledged for the carrier single "Hung Up," with ABBA sharing songwriting credits with Madonna and Price. All the other songs you mentioned were actually not sampled in the other COADF tracks; they merely inspired the creation of those tracks (a tribute of sorts if you will), hence, the similarity in sound/arrangement. There are no sampling credits mentioned in the other songs in the album, except for "Hung Up."
At the end of the day, most songs are inspired by one work of art or another. Still, we must make this distinction from sampling. So again, 1 sample out of 12 originals is still creativity in my book.
Score = 0
when imagination dies it's time for...
tributes!!!!
Having 11 of 12 originals plenty of imagination, there were 11 songs to choose for the single instead of the "most innovative" one!
"So again, 1 sample out of 12 originals is still creativity in my book."
well, if you're judging an entire album, i agree.

It's easy to pick up the Abba sample in "Hung Up", but isn't the base line reminiscent of "Rah, Rah Rasputin" by Boney-M?
Score = 0
Still highly debatable!
Of course "Hung Up" isn't all original as it heavily sampled "Gimme Gimme Gimme." On its own, you would inevitably have to judge it as "lack of imagination." That is a given. Though to its credit, if you care to compare the melodies of HU and Gimme, they are worlds apart (and that takes imagination). HU, therefore, qualifies as an original.
But COADF is an album after all and you have to judge it as that. Otherwise, let's just release singles.
Why HU as the carrier single? Who knows? Only Madonna/WB can answer that. Still, the fact remains that there are still 11 more originals in the collection. Let's not get hung up on "Hung Up."
I say... when imagination dies, it's time to do... covers!!!!

I'm in a great mood. Hung Up is doing rather well in the US regardless of radios attemts to write her off. You know it's true, she is no longer top dog. There is way too much competition from other talented female artists; Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson to name a few. But lets not forget the woman who started it all; the one who created a new model of success in the music industry that says a woman can take complete control of her career and take it as far as she wants to. Before Madonna, this did not happen. The fact that Madonna is still making hit records is astonishing! She is the queen of pop because she is the one who started it all. Mariah may have more number ones, Britney may be a better dancer (Although Madonna isn't bad at all), and Kelly Clarkston and Christina Augielera may have two of the best voices in pop music but they are all copying this model of female power that Madonna single handedly and effortlessly created and still abides by. And despite her controversies, her message has always been consistent. When the chips are down, get back up and start fighting as hard as you can. That is a great message for men and women equally. As far as this album is concerned, In my opinion it's one of her best. It is fun and reminds me of the kind of music she use to make. Hung Up is a great first singe, and Sorry grows on me more each time I hear it. Other singles I'd like to hear on the radio are Jump, Push and How High. How High lyrics may sound like she is doubting her abilities but I don't think that at all. In fact, I believe that she is throwing it out to her critics. How did she earn it? 21 years of hard work that's how. A great video idea for that song would be Madonna singing on a blank stage something like Live To Tell as video images of her last 21 years flashes by just to remind us what an impact that she has made in the business. When you've been around as long as she has, it's hard to look at her career in its entirety. Try to do it sometime (if you want to of course). And it's no wonder why she became the most famous woman in the world, and still is.

Madonna is not competeing with any other "talented" young singers. She is a perfoming artist, and is one of a kind. WHen you say stupid S!%t like that its the same as saying Picasso was competing with Dali. But what you saying is even dumber, because beyonce, Gwen, britney and clarckson are more like "industry created" consumer products, without the essence of being an artist. And that will never be enough to be a creative artist like Madge.
Get a life, and if you dont like it go and play games with yourself watching wanabbe artists on MTV.
