New Marilyn Manson - "Heart Shaped Glasses"

Never know what to make of Marilyn. Though there are songs from his catalogue we like ("The Beautiful People" and his cover of Bowie's "Golden Years" come to mind), his interviews, image, and colored contacts are more arresting. And we know he's had a tough year, but this snarly, heartbroken Hot Fussed-up single is bona fide dreck. Vulnerability isn't nearly as good a look on Marilyn as is a nice gender-bending bodysuit.

not that i would have high standards for his music anyways, but... wow, his voice is just blown out completely.
i would be able to listen to it more than once if he was not singing.

Who is his guitarist? Didn't John 5 leave a while ago. Love those guitar tones, unique for MM, but the song is not that great. Sounds like one of the many Joy Division ripoff bands.

Poor poor Brian Warner...i don't know what i'd do if my prostitute wife decided to leave me...

...oh wait, yes, i do, i'd probably try to get rid of that raging case of gonorrhea...but that's just me.

Hank, I just laughed out loud at your comment. Really hard. I never do that. You're right.

i think he's using a session guitarist to do this album. he hired some asshole that was hanging out snorting coke with him for the last tour, at least he's gone.

this song kind of sucks. he's gotten way too into these punny song titles, they're just not that clever. (M)obscene, and (S)aint, and now (Don't Go Breakin' My Heart) Shaped Glasses. At least it's not another cover song, it's good to finally hear something new.

Ouch! This sounds like bad Orgy. . . and Orgy was not exactly grammy material to begin with.

I thought the song sounded great. I've only listened to it about 15 times now. I read that he wrote this album after his marriage broke up. So the guy ends up writing his life into his songs, how can you knock a rock star, of all people, for doing that?...even Marilyn Manson. Also, even though he has covered some songs that turned out to be big hits for him, he covered the hell out of them. The songs sounded much better after his rendition anyway. Personal Jesus and Sweet Dreams were total 80's songs before Manson breathed life back into them. Be honest with yourself.

If I'm not mistaken... Personal Jesus was a 90's song.

I'm looking forward to the new album, but not in the same way I would look forward to his previous ones.

I guess I might have to hear more first.

I agree that there is a lot of anticipation for Manson's new album. I was shocked when I heard the opening guitar riff on his currently unreleased single, but the digitized voice made up for it slightly. I too want to hear the new CD in its entirety and am hoping that he has something a bit harder. It was nice to hear "This is the new shit" on his previous new CD release. Either way, I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the CD. My biggest problem is that it seems like he is more interested in touring in Europe. Maybe he likes to get paid in Euros or something.

Been a fan since 'Portrait..." I've heard two tracks so far and both have been horrendous. I read somewhere that he didn't want to make another album... this certainly reflects that sentiment. And as an earlier poster pointed out, his voice certainly does seem busted.

the problem is hes trying to sing for once!
so this sounds like most of his cover songs rather than previous album tracks, unfortunately enough.
>:D gone for that minimal 80s electro pop sound-ie gary numan cover band (eg orgy) as someone else has said with the crappy basic kids casio keyboards, lol, but with even less guitar, shockingly enough even for manson. in interviews hes supposedly got some proper guitar tracks on the album and even a couple of solos, but this track isnt amazing, heard it twice and dont really want to hear again. not bad writing I guess, but would probably sound much better if someone else sang it.

"the problem is hes trying to sing for once!" ?

Idiot. Did you not listen to Mechanical Animals 8 years ago? Manson sang the whole thing with better melodies than this shitheap.

It is kinda emo, but, atleast it is GOOD emo... maybe these little children who think they are hot shit nowadays, though they all sound the same, will learn a thing or two from this. I like that Manson still makes music I can listen to as opposed to all the shit floating around since just before 2000. He uses the shock and theatrics as an art, not to cover for sucking. Tim Skold is now on as his Guitarist and I think he actually rocks. What is so shocking about people having sex anyways? I watched the video several times and I still do not see what the problem is that people are having. it is not disturbing, it is not really offensive, it is actually pretty damn cool. (S)aint... now THAT I can see as controversial as it showed actual nudity, and tongue in Vagina shots. and cutting and cocaine use. still an excellent video.
