New Metallica - "My Apocalypse"

thumbnail icon: New Metallica - "My Apocalypse"

Add this one to "Cyanide" and "The Day That Never Comes," only this time your only option for listening is via metallica.com, where the track pops in your choice of streaming player. Warning: Lars's drums sound like trash. It may be the low-bitrate player, or it may be that he's banging on tupperware and cardboard boxes. Dave Grohl will not be pleased. (via Rock Daily)

This record gets less and less encouraging with every song that comes out. The vocals are terrible. Just terrible. I don't get that bridge at all. Soloing sounds OK.

Oh man... the 21st century is great. I've said for years that Metallica fucking sucks, and now almost everyone agrees with me. I love the future!

That was nostalgic. Not because it reminded me of old Metallica, but rather its sub-ham radio sound quality reminded me of the pre-Napster days of downloading ultra low bitrate mp3s. This file had more artifacts than a museum.

It sounds like they hired Billy Corgan to write the album. On the plus side, at least some kids in Kentucky get to increase their vocabulary with the help of dad's "Jammin' Ass Radio".

oh my GOD! you people are all stupid, u all suck! this song is amazing!! i have been a metallica fan and i love all thier old work, and "My Apocalypse" is the new "Battery"; about the vocals, well yes james is old, but he has a fucking great voice better than many other people. he might not be as gret as before vocalwise but music wise they have done great compared to the last album, saint anger. there are face melting solos and good compsing, at least they are not like the other sucky new metal bands. all the songs are distorted so that it could be of a lower quality so they dont kill the album

Dearest Stereogum,

We don't care about Metallica. Sure they tried to write a new record that would equal such classics as "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" but we all know that if you sit around and try to write a record that sounds like something, or try to bring back the past, it is not going to work. Just the fact that they tried is a good sign, and the fact that at recent shows they have realized they are a form of nostalgia act shows that the band understands that there best days are behind us. Maybe your continued coverage is somewhat tongue in cheek and you enjoy kicking these guys when they are down, but really I don't care, and I assume there are some others that don't also. I say "Less Metallica". Who is with me?

Well metallica haven't been in that "every song on the album" is good club in a long time..

Sounds like a bunch of whining girls in here! Metallica still rocks, put your earplugs in and shut up! And to the bonehead who asked if anybody still listened to Metallica, check out billboard on September 15th or so, just another #1 debut for the band with no listeners. Go play your Jay-Z album and get the hell out!

Metallica is back baby, fuckin eh. I love the sound of this song and, it could do without the steel sounding snare but honestly, I don't mind it that much. Oh and for the record, unless you litsen to the fucking BEATLES, Metallica is better than anything you fuckin listen to. Thats just statistics.
