New M.I.A. - "Bird Flu"

Back in August, Maya promised she'd soon post a song to her M.I.A.Space, and then explained the track's title: "I CALLED THIS BIRD FLU BECAUSE THIS BEAT GON KILL EVERYONE!!" Well "soon" meant "in a few months," but no complaints; she finally put up the song today, and the dholak-infused beat is nearly as killer as promised. Hear it at MayaSpace. As for the "Bird Flu" video, she said then:

WE DISCOVERED AN AMAZING BOY WHO CAN OUT DANCE ANYTHING I VE ever SEEN. HE INVENTED ME THE BIRD FLU DANCE.
Who, this dude? M.I.A., he's already famous.

UPDATE: Maya tells no lies. That kid can out dance anything. Check the "Bird Flu" vid, shot on location in a village on the south coast of India. Makes us homesick for bhel puris and chaat.

i love reading her m.i.a.space blogs. i feel it challenges my comprehension abilities. but jesus, i can't wait for this album. arular and piracy v.1 completely monopolized my ipod for months, and i'm really hoping this one does the same thing

I looooove Arular but I feel a little underwhelmed by her new stuff. It's really, uh, odd....that doesn't say much, but it's just very different. Less melody and catchiness, more noise and squawking.

Arular is the best. Best female rapper alive.

I could have used more of the little kid. They flash him for a couple of seconds and then he's gone! And really, how's everyone going to start doing the bird flu dance if no one can tell what it is?
