New Oasis: 'Lyla'
A new (pleasant but unadventurous) Oasis single has been leaked by Polish radio. Thanks Poland! Don't expect this link (MP3) to last long.
Can't believe it's been 9 years since I saw the Brothers Gallagher ("the sex Beatles," UK press claimed) rock MSG. Can't believe they haven't broken up by now.
As for former archenemy/stoodent Damon Albarn? Thankfully he never did contract AIDS despite Noel's public hex -- the latest Gorillaz jawn is 1000x more bananas than anything Oasis will ever dream up.
Full disclosure: I still own the Mike Flowers Pops' "Wonderwall" CD, but only to remind myself not to buy novelty singles anymore.

"latest Gorillaz jawn...."
Jawn? When did Stereogum decide to get all Catchdubs on us?
Score = 0
They've done worse. The chorus is not bad but the rest of the song isn't really doing it for me.
While the rest of the musical world is trying to evolve their sound, Noel keeps going backwards.
*sigh*

Yeah this song is about as eventful as the jacko trial.
About Mike Flowers...you should totally post that mp3!!!! I saw the video for that cover ONCE way back on M2 and have never heard since. Too funny!

Hey Scott, your mid-90s Oasis obsession wasn't truly embarassing unless you purchased "Wibbling Rivalry", a taped interview with the Gallaghers featuring plenty of fussin', feudin', and cursin'.
This single was commercially released in the UK.
This single charted in the Top 40 in the UK.
I own this single.
Score = 0
Oh, and *another* Oasis related release that truly tests the limits of the novelty single concept: high-profile Oasis cover band "No Way Sis" getting a label to release its cover of the Coke jingle, "I'd Like to Teach the World To Sing", which of course was made into "Shakermaker" by Noel.
Score = 0
"the latest Gorillaz jawn is 1000x more bananas than anything Oasis will ever dream up." <- r u serious ? quality man , QUALITY !! oasis is real rock n roll . no offense but arent gorrilaz for kids ? u know with the cartoon and silly rhymes , how dare you to even compare them with oasis .
but then again .. u're obsess with britney spears .. so i guess im just wasting my time now .. blah .. u scenesters need to wake up
Score = 0
Well it's crap faux-beatles pub rock -- with spectacularly bad guitar playing, while Gorillaz are doing stuff that's off the planet. And I hate Damon Albarn, he's such a smug wanker.
The reason he's comparing Oasis to Gorillaz is the rivalry from the '90s and how Albarn has gone on to do some intersting stuff, while Oasis' cookie-cutter 'rock' has just gotten worse and worse.
Score = 0
Somewhat reminiscent of "Street Fighting Man" by the Stones...
Score = 0
well yeah im aware of the rivalry between oasis and blur thing in the 90s but oasis is clearly a better band than that animated band ( although i have to admit i like some of blur stuff )
and i dont think oasis gotten worse and worse , if anything they're gettin better , its just that u people expect them to do another radio friendly morning glory album , but anyway i think the new album gonna be great .
ps: try listen to bands like thesoundtrackofourlives or brmc instead of arcade fire or lindsay lohan ..

Did anyone else get tickets for Oasis at the Hollywood Bowl, or am I the only belevier?. I've pretty much lost all hope that they'll ever release anything near the quality of the first two albums, and this single proves it, but damn, if those first two aren't classics.
Score = 0
Hey Robb,
I got ticket to the Hollywood Bowl too. And I agree with you, Definitely Maybe is my favorite of theirs followed by What's The Story. Wasn't a huge fan of what came after.
Any Oasis fan owns Wibbiling Rivalry and has the Mike Flowers Pop song. My ex boyfried even had a Liam blow up doll that came with NME or Select or something like that. No doubt he will be at the MSG show. As much as I thought he was obsessed, I'm sure there were people who beat him out for it. While waiting on a line for tickets to the Paramount show, my ex boyfriend walked up with his shaggy hair, John Lennon glasses and corduroy jacket with fur trim and everyone turned around and looked at him in disbelief. I was never sure if that was good or bad thing. HA! Needless to say we ended up with last row seats thanks to Ticketbastard!!!
Was anyone else at the Wetlands show they played in 94?
Score = 0
I'm going to see Oasis in Detroit this summer, I'm psyched. I mean not that they're as good as Joanna Newsom or anything... Rob you asked if there are any believers out there, then said you've lost all hope, Keep the Faith brother! I still love these guys, not as a guilty pleasure or any of that BS.
Did anybody else like that Marah "Float Away With the Friday Night Gods" album? A "Be Here Now" ripoff for sure but pretty entertaining.
Score = 0
the Lyla song is lousy. I find that everything that they do has a very obvious link to something that came before them. Lyla = Lola (kinks), everything else = Beatles ripoff...whatever.
WTSMG is the only album worth owning and since it was played to death it's only worth listening to once a year, and only late at night when you're drunk or on a road trip. Or both.
Score = 0
Lyla = Lola ? why? because they both start with L and have 4 letters ? did you even listen to the song? give them some credit ... they ripped off the Stones not the Kinks
Score = 0
No, Noel definitely said the AIDS comment.
I'm travleing to see them in Detroit. Their last record wasn't bad (just horribly produced) and sounded amazing live. Much much better than I expected.
Score = 0
That's the problem with Oasis, they need a producer. Noel as producer is just terrible. Someone needs to rein in these songs. There is no reason this song is 5 minutes long. Oasis has had some long opus-type songs that were amazing, but to justify 5 minute plus on this song just shows where the problem is.
Score = 0
"Be Here Now" may be one of the worst produced albums of the 90s. The mix is so bad, it's like there's no one playing bass on any of the tracks...
Score = 0
I was listening to Be Here Now for the first time in many many years and burst out laughing. I couldn't get through Magic Pie because I was laughing so hard. 7 minutes of a melody you wrote while taking a shit? You've got to be kidding me? Man, that takes balls to put out a record so bad, yet so long... I miss the days when I loved them enough to buy Wibbling Rivalry. Sad days gone by.

Any new links to the song?

Wow, Oasis puts out another mediocre track. I can't believe how boring this song is and yet, it's the new single. Anyone think the new album is going to be better than "Heathen Chemistry"? a close call indeed

This song is actually fuckin mega. Really does sound quality. Trying to compare Oasis to their first two albums is wrong. They are two of the best albums ever. How are they supposed to write an album full of songs such as those. Listen to Lyla for what it is and dont compare to other stuff.

compare heathen chemistry to anything else released that year.
Then stop slagging it off.

Download 'Ares'. It's free, like Kazaa, etc. There's a few files of Lyla on there. Tip: download the one that's about 7 MB. The 12 MB has worse sound quality.

If there is one thing I'm sick of hereing supposed music intelligcals it's that Damon Alburn should be saulted for trying new things. Not if they are as bad as Think Tank. Or the (exuse the pun) extremly one-demensional gorillaz. Oasis have evolved and changed their style but without alienating their fans as Blur did. Being experimental is just a handy mask for a lack of creativity. Listen to Standing on The Shoulder of Giants and tell me Oasis havn't changed their style.
Lyla is a very good song. Not experimental but is poppier than anything they have done in along time. Maybe too long and the production is pretty poor but hopefully the leaked song isn't the compleated version.

can someone up it please
Score = 0
People who always need the flavor of the month bullshit band are the worst music fans in the world. I don't believe in sticking with a band till the bitter end...I did w/ the Pumpkins, but that end wasn't so bitter; they quit while they were ahead.
I liked Be Here Now, so in my mind, Oasis made three unbelievable albums. After that, a lot of the mid-90's alt-rock bands needed a makeover, so Oasis comes out with SOTSOG. Wasn't great; so what? A few gems were on there. Heathen Chemistry was a bit better, flowed better, was more polished. Now it seems they're coming into their own...even the fans who say they've been slightly disappointed by being able to listen in on the album pre-release have great things to say about most of the songs.
Bottom line is, Oasis are being Oasis..why should they try to be someone else, like Damon Albarn going out and making himself into a fucking cartoon? That's who he is, and the Gallagher brothers are who they are; old-school rockers and the last of their breed. Everyone else is about a career in music, instead of having a good fucking time making music. I like Coldplay, for example, but it's so obvious they're career musicians. What do you call U2? I mean come on; they are now career musicians. I liked Pop, it was deep, slightly experimental, had some great lyrics and great meaning in it, and they scrapped it because they were scared that no one understood their huge lemon coming out on stage. They bought into the bullshit. Oasis never has. That's what separates them, for better or for worse.
Score = 0
*applauds* That's the best comment i've seen on the internet to date. Hit the nail right on the head.
GMAM was right in saying that 'The days of it being cool to knock Oasis are long gone'. If you're still doing that get over yourselves.. if you dont like it, dont fuckin' listen to it, simple. You're the ones getting yourself all worked up about it while we're all listening to music we enjoy... Bellendz. heh.

ur a bunch of wankers.
oasis ARE the best ROCK band in the world at the moment. they are 5th of my scale of greatest british bands ever, following behind Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Beatles.
ps. the thing that seperates the greats bands from the crap is their live performances, therefore oasis kick every fuckers arse. including u faggot bashing pricks who no fuck all bout music.

yeah, my name's really lyla. but that's NOT what i wanted to say. what i really want to say is that the person above me "i hate u all" is a fucking moron. oasis, while i love them, is hardly comparable to zeppelin. also, "seperates" is really spelled "separates". and "no" is "know". and when did it become cool to PROVE that you're an ignorant bigot, instead of letting us all just assume it? grow up.

i think the new song is class, and to keep comparing it to their older stuff if wrong coz def maybe and whats the story? are probrably to of the best ever albums so it going to be hard to top that, in my opinion oasis make the best anthems for when ur out on the piss and that wat really matters. the new tune shits all over anything else out at the moment
Score = 0
oasis still rule the british scene when ever they release a new album it goes straight in at no1 and the singles usually do the same, ive heard the new tune and i can see no reason why dat wont do the same too

Although i am a massive Oasis fan i have to say that the album can't be any worse than SOTSOG which was truly awful bar 1 song and Noel Gallagher knew it. Thankfully he seems to have put a lot of time and effort into "Don't Believe the Truth" and lets not forget that the best songs on the album are always released later on. Still, i recon that this is a good song even if it could/should have been rocked up a bit. Will easily get to number 1 as there are so many oasis fans who will buy anything that the band release ie songbird.
Score = 0
OASIS ARE BACK!
I am sick of you people who constantly critisice oasis ,any other of 'the bands' around now would kill for songs as good as oasis b-sides and if they released them they would be praised.People are just envious of oasis cause they are so succesful.
Record Sales and another sold out tour(Probably the biggest tour any band bar U2 will do this year)justify their quality,so shut up the lot of you pessimists.

Right ok, ok. Oasis are definitely one of the best bands of the nineties and could still be now if it wasn't for noel gallagher and liam taking too bloody long over things. heathen chemistry was a good enough album, no shit songs, but no exceptionally good ones. standing on the shoulders, perfectly good album - the best starting track fuckin in the bushes, etc, and who feels love? and go let it out? were the most laid back, cool songs noels done. also, little james, shame about the lyric "play with your toys, even though they make noise" but it's still listenable, and enjoyable. noel comes up with a beautiful line - "do you keep the receipts for the friends that you buy?" its all good. oasis have not made a bad album in their long, interesting career. liams voice is still unrivalled since billy corgan, kurt cobain, john lennon, jeff buckley - these days you just can't find someone with such a melodic but gruff voice and that's why lyla sounds so fresh, liams voice, in contrast with his shit performance at glastonbury when he couldnt reach the notes for "stop crying your heart out". first listen, you think, it's a long one, but that catchy chorus is exactly what they needed for a FIRST LISTEN and that's all we can say. the radio built it up and it delivered, not without criticism, but its done its job, and it improves with every listen. i dont think it's right to say oasis are back, they never left. but they aren't just making records for the hell of it, they believe in their music, and they always have done. and lyla is definitely going to get to number one, not because "all the oasis fans will buy it" and incidentally "songbird" is one of the best love songs i've ever heard and it's so simple to play as well, but because it's a nice song, a catchy song, and lets face it if oasis provide the song it'll get the airplay it needs. i really hope oasis bring out an album good enough to shut up all you "not as good as def maybe, or whats the story" romanticists but ultimately they wont cos you all wouldnt know it if it hit you in the face.

All I cam say is that there are plenty of good bands out there, the Killers, the Hiver, Snow Patrol etc - but I would bet my life that none of them will still have number 1 albums ten years into there carreers!!!! People say Oasis are shit cus the albums are'nt as good as the first two, thats not an insult to the recent albums but a compliment to the first two, they are awesome and will be remembered forever. But you cant say the rest are shit just cust they arent better than DM or WTSMG
Lyla is a good track influenced clearly by Street Fighting Man - It's gonna be a good album, its gonna be number 1 and there gonna be awesone live - What more can you ask for from a bands sixth album?
ps - any one else think Be Here Now was a great album?

Not a bad song, but about 1 minute too long I reckon.

I can agree that Definately maybe is a top album and that Mornin Glory is awesome> Infact all Oasis' albums r great, (inc masterplan)...cept SOTSOG which Noel did admit left a lot to be desired. Also Oasis are back as they have left...they havnt been around for a long time. And incidently Neil Songbird did suck ass it was v poor.
Score = 0
yeh, nice on Jazza. totally agree with the Be Here Now comment, the songs are proper long, a little too long. but dont go away, is a nice 'un, and stand by me, i hope i think i know both quality. not a bad album. songbird is a nice song, its cheery. it isnt a bad song, its a simple declaration of love..whats poor about that?

we should all just be happy oasis are still around. i'm sure this new album will not be "definetly maybe" or "what the story morning glory" or even "be here now", but it is still a new oasis album. i will pay any amount of money for it. Oasis shit all over any other bands today. Rock on lads
Score = 0
that's the thing Ryan, they don't "shit on all the other bands at all" and it's that attitude that pisses everyone else off because it's when you start comparing bands that you sound like a bit of a knob. it's all down to personal opinion. it's people like you, Ryan, who say "oasis shit on all other bands today" that completely undermine oasis's legacy and their impact on the music scene which influenced bands like coldplay, the coral and the libertines. im not saying that somewhere there is an ultimate "band judge" who says "YES, THEY ARE BETTER THAN THOSE" but quite frankly I can't stand that. you probably havent even heard the new album, it could be a big pile of piss, hopefully not though. you are just as bad as people who say "oasis are shit" - you kinda guys are two extremes. and another thing, i like the way you tried to end the "discussion" with a "come on guys, now now, lets just agree what i think" as a nice ending. well, stop making claims like that, because people who say "oasis are shit" when THEY Haven't heard the album are just as bad you saying "oasis shit on all the other bands" please Ryan, for all other oasis fans sake, remove your head from your arse and listen to some new music, appreciate it all, and then maybe you'll understand WHY oasis are so great, and not just what you've assigned yourself to.
Score = 0
Very good points mate, I see myself as a supporter not a fan, the difference baing that a Fan will say Oasis are the best regardless what they put out and a supporter can bring themselves to admit that not all songs they do in fact are that amazing.
Oasis have been my favourite band for most of the ten years they've been around, but to say that oasis piss on Keane, The Killers, Snow Patrol etc is utter crap. There are plenty of awesome bands around at the moment, and for the first time in a while guitar bands are dominating the music scene which has gotta be better that all the pop idol shit we 've been subjected to for the past years, and even better is the fact that there are plenty of british bands shaking things up.
I cant wait for the new oasis album I think it will be very good, but I think Ryan is a bit of a Tit who could do with buying a few new albums from a few new bands, he may even find out that there is more to music than Oasis...............

totally agree with DamonC69, without a doubt DM and WTSMG were classic albums and are obviously gonna be hard to top. But it pisses me off when people critise their other work. People like you pdr who critise Oasis by saying "WTSMG" is their only album worth listening to. I could talk to steriotypical people like you all day coz you're so full of shit and it's funny. Have you even listened to other Oasis work besides What's the Story? Jesus It was a good Album but christ you can't just say it's the only one worth listening to. It just is'nt fair for someone to say that about a band. For one person to come along and judge a band's over 10 year career on one album thats only worth lisening to when you're either drunk or on the road is pathetic, you're pathetic, PISS OFF!
Score = 0
Once again I totally agree with DamonC69. (Just reading back to a few old comments). As I said In previous comment, I can't stand it when people critise Oasis work. People seem to think that if it's not as succesful as DM or WTSMG then it's shit. Be Here Now, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry hell even The Masterplan are all fuckin' decent albums. Okay maybe there not as good as DM or WTSMG but there still good albums. Fuck anyone who thinks otherwise. Their either Steriotypes who think that once you've heard one album, you've heard em all. Or Dicks.
Score = 0
By the way DamonC69, BE HERE NOW in my opinion was a good album. It was just unfairly critised as it was the follow up to Whats the Story Morning Glory. People expected it to be bigger and better and lets be realistic, It wasn't. Dont get me wrong I thought it was a good album but fair enough it was to physcadelic and songs on it did seem to grag on. I think the shortest song on there was I HOPE, I THINK, I KNOW which is about 4min 22secs (I think) and the longest was ALL AROUND THE WORLD which is about ten minutes long. And although many songs on the album consist on daft rhymes and silly mobile phone jingles in the background, I kinda like it. But it was mentally produced which had great afecct on the Album. Maybe it was something to do with the whole band and producer Owen Morris Being cocaine addicts at the time. Which clearly has a drastic affect on the album as you can hardly hear a bass line on most of their songs (poor Guigsy). I'll be the first to admit that the album does have some daft tunes like Magic Pie, Be Here Now but I just think there Fuckin' funny Y'know. The album sold something like 8 million copies so they must have done something right on it. Songs like D'ya Know what I mean, Stand by me, All Around the World, Dont Go Away, I hope, I think, I know and its Gettin Better man, I think are great!. I think it's probably the most uplifting OASIS album.

well fuck, i said it in good faith, it is very hard for me to hear oasis coming from australia, it took me about 4months to find "standing on the shoulder of giants", but i did hear Lyla after searching for fucking hours, And in answer to DamoC69, oasis do shit all over Keane and Snow Patrol, you did take my words a lit
