New Ryan Adams - "France"

Stereogum reader Ryan Adams has posted a new track on his website! Listen here. It's presumably from one of the three new albums he's releasing this year. Aquarium Drunkard made an MP3, which I don't think Ryan would approve of. We'll ask him at Lollapalooza.

Anyway, tell us what you think of "France" in the comments and maybe Ryan will drop in to tear everyone a new asshole.

I like it after one listen. Sounds like something out of his "Rock N Roll" phase.

Ryan Adams is from Jacksonville, North Carolina. Nothing good has ever come out from Florida.

It does kind of sound like the Rock 'n Roll material. There's been rumor of an RnR Part 2 being recorded and this might be some of the first proof.

Anyway, I love it.

Seeing Ryan tonight in St. Louis!

This song sounds like a crappy Oasis track (is that redundant?).

"Nothing Good Has Ever Come Out Of Florida"

Off the top of my head, Tom Petty is from Gainesville. Thurston Moore was born in Coral Gables. Sam Beam currently resides in Miami. Cannonball Adderly, who played on "Kind Of Blue" was from Tampa, and, though no native, Jack Kerouac wrote "On The Road" in Orlando. Duane Allman, from Jacksonville, helped fuse the freedom of jazz artists like John Coltrane into rock music.

Sayles,
Do you fucking WORK for floridas tourism department? On the road was actually written in Ozone Park, New York, where his parents were living at the time. I do believe that Kerouac died in orlando though...

Sounds awfully tossed off to me. Maybe that's just what he wants...but...whatever.

Jack,

Well, I'm slightly off about "On The Road." He was living in Orlando when it was published. He did however, write "Dharma Bums" in Orlando. Kerouac's mother lived in Orlando on two different occasions, and he lived with her there.

And no, I don't work for the tourism department. I just think it's ignorant to say nothing good comes from Florida. More than ignorant, I think it's standard hipster-bullshit. I should have known better than respond with something other than a tossed-off put-down.

im not sure the real ryan adams would link up his name to the wrong site? would you Ryan? ...baby? maybe dont answer, it scares people. didnt like France, like it now, imagine i would like it alot more in the context of a great album. fingers crossed for rocknroll no.2. RnR is what made me go back to his older stuff with both ears.

i just thumbs downed Ryan's own comment, not realizing it was his own self-effacing sarcasm that I was thumbs-downing!
I think this track is phenomenal! I am a guitar teacher in Canada, and Ryan gives me more great material to teach by than any other artist currently going. His use of harmony has inspired an approach that I call the Harmonic Turnstile and I thank him for his continuous stream of amazing and heart and gut wrenching tunes. A Master Craftsman if there ever was one!
