New Snow Patrol - "Signal Fire"

Lots of promising stuff on the hipsterfied Spiderman 3 soundtrack, but naturally the good stuff will have to wait until the Grey's-approved singles are outta the way. So if you need to breakaway from the Fray for a minute, here's the new Snow Patrol single for you to shit on.

Snow Patrol - "Signal Fire" (QT | WMA)

Drab as it is, they're doing the piano sap rock so effectively (admit it, moms and first dates will eat it up) that just maybe a band like Coldplay will make good on their Eno-snatching promise to shift course entirely. Everybody wins. And Chris will have another thing to brag to his childhood bullies about.

The Snow Patrol track has a fan-made video already, of course, which incorporates copious amounts of advance footage. Hey Topher's in it too! Fez is so gonna be in the next one.

When Pitchfork said that Spiderman 3 was "going all hipster," I knew they weren't kidding. I hope that Stereogum is kidding.

This is in no way different from the soundtrack to The Cable Guy.

Actually, I stand corrected - Spiderman 3 is one of the most successful franchises of the decade. So, it's different in that it is an enormous blockbuster. Still feel like hipsters, you Killers fans?

How about another record from The Reindeer Section?

Those songs were so much better than these Snow Patrol dirges.

snow patrol used to be all awesome and quirky, singing about burning cities down as a romantic activity and titling their songs with non sequiturs. now they're ganking coldplay and making me fall asleep.

i second the reindeer section plea. i could listen to tout le monde all damn day.

You know, it doesnt make you cool to not like bands like The Fray, Coldplay, The Killers, and Snow Patrol. just becuase they are light alternative and mainstream or on the verge, speaks nothing of thier talent as a band. this isnt the lip synching backstreet boys we are talking about here. these are talented muscians. People hate their image so they then act on hating their sound. likeing Super underground indie techno or bands like LCD soundsystem or Hot Chip doesnt make you cool. get real.

I've heard some good songs by this band, but this SONG sounds way overproduced.

Brian - in case that's a response to what I'm saying - I'm not trying to *be* cool. I'm just trying to correct the cultural associations. Modest Mouse hit number one because they're a popular mainstream band, not because of a fluke indie rock moment. Arcade Fire and the Shins hitting number two are a bit more impressive only because they've remained off majors, but their relative ubiquity (relative to, among others, their albel mates) assured this as well. And Spiderman 3 is not "going hipster" - it's cashing in on the current "verge of mainstream." This is what it felt like to be a fan of certain "alternative rock" bands in the '90s.

There's already a video for this song out. http://whudahexup.blogspot.com/2007/04/snow-patrol-signal-fire-video-spiderman.html <- just one of many places you can go to watch it. Enjoy :D

(I love this song and I love all of Snow Patrol's work, although I'll still say that Final Straw was my favourite album)
