New Stars - "Reunion (Jason Collett Mix)"

Torquil, Amy, and the rest of Stars have entrusted the reworking, covering, and remixing of Set Yourself On Fire to a cadre of Canadian artists, yielding Do You Trust Your Friends?, out later this month on Arts & Crafts. Live-fave "Reunion" was placed in the hands of Broken Social Scener Jason Collett, turning Stars' wistful cut into something of a rollicking country-bar rocker.

These days see Torquil concentrating on his Memphis side project, while Amy's doing some solo gigs and just contributed a vocal to one of best cuts on the excellent Montag record. Meanwhile, Do You Trust Your Friends? features contributions from the likes of Final Fantasy, the Russian Futurists, Montag, and Junior Boys. It's available starting 5/22 on Arts & Crafts. Tracklist and cover song assignments after the jump.

01 "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead (Final Fantasy Mix)"
02 "Set Yourself on Fire (Montag Mix)"
03 "Ageless Beauty (The Most Serene Republic Mix)"
04 "Reunion (Jason Collett Mix)"

06 "What I'm Trying to Say Pt. 1 (The Dears Mix)"
07 "What I'm Trying to Say Pt. 2 (The Dears Mix)"
08 "One More Night (Apostle of Hustle Mix)"
09 "Sleep Tonight (Junior Boys Mix)"
10 "The First Five Times (The Russian Futurists Mix)"
11 "He Lied About Death (Metric Mix)"

yuck. in concept this album could have been good, but the execution was downright abysmal.

All the tracks I've heard so far have been excellent. Different then the originals, yes, but equally loveable.

There are some really nice reworkings on the remix album, in particular the Final Fantasy and Apostle Of Hustle tracks, so why you chose to feature this one is beyond me. Fuck Jason Collett. He's turned this previously awesome song into shite.

Jason Collett is awesome. His coever is great...very different to the original, has a completely different feel. He turned it from a good pop song to a good folk song.

Okay, I almost puked. But after the first chorus somehow the beauty of Collett's take came out. I have to say, well done!

first time I heard this, I was not impressed.
a friend of mine had me listen to it a few more times and now I LOVE it!
I do miss Campbell's and Millan's voice... ahh they are epic! However this is a nice breather to take when you listen to the original too many times in a day.
I definetly catch myself grooving out to this version while the other one makes me jump like a school girl with joy!

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun
