That bass riff sounds a bit like the theme from "Batman." Other than that It's not a bad song.

I have to agree with robert, everything about this song blows. That bassline sounds like a theme from a Saturday morning cartoon. And what's with Julian's singing about 35 seconds in? I realize they want to try something different after making Is This It 2.0 aka Room on Fire but this is horrible and sounds nothing like the Strokes that I knew.

What kind of freaks dont like saturday morning cartoons?? who are you people???

the song is not bad --- and this is different for the strokers (at least for part of the tune you actually hear the singer's voice....i mean like, his human voice, not the Ned-Voice-Box he's been using to get famous and avoid criticism on his otherwise shitty voice.....)

I'm not sure what I think of that on the the first listen. It kind of sounds like The Strokes covering a Franz track. It doesn't really do much and it needs a fucking hook. But I still kind of like it...

I like it. Yeah, it's kind of harsh at first, but the payoff at :50 or so where they break into the hook makes for some nice interplay. It's just one song, anyway, so I think it's a bit soon to be doing any bandwagon jumping (on or off).

Not bad, though not, at least upon my initial listen, really that great. My knee-jerk reaction, upon hearing the opening bass riff was "ok... they've stopped ripping off Television and the Cars and moved on to ripping off the Cramps."

I just don't know yet. I imagine it is going to take a bunch of listens to get use to this (dare I say) progression

Actually, I think it's only a progression in that it differs greatly from the first two albums... it's going to be hard to top "is this it?"

One of the best bands of our time is trying really hard to shed the bagage of being really cool, and having people write comments about them on the internets.

Dig:
somebody hung up the phone, and julian sounds good.

new semigloss production

prominent bassline (enter sandman speed up?)

tempo changes, ala Franz

same lyrical theme: detached romanticism, mythic cool

It's not the instant indie dance party jam of 12:51, or the instant trip to the basement to check out dad's records of "Last Night," but let's give it some time. at least a few more hours.

It's . . . Shiv said above "It kind of sounds like The Strokes covering a Franz track" and I have to kindof agree (and by a crazy coincidence Winamp randomly popped up the daft punk remix of "Take Me Out" immediately after the song ended, though that's certainly not the Franz song that it's most like) . . . I'm a bit torn, but it shows a kind of eclectic potential, makes me think that the new album, well . . .

Actually, it leaves me scratching my head as to what the new album might be like. But that's a good thing, from a marketing perspective, 'cause now I'm damn curious. The song itself seems slightly schizophrenic, and my response is likewise. Not sure at all how this song will sit after stewing for a few days . . . nice to know that The Strokes are experimenting, though.

What the...!?
I've been reading the commenst and... "Batman Theme"? "Peter Gunn Theme" (I would rather mention B-52's' "Planet Claire" bass riff wich has an obvious Peter Gunn rip-off with an edge)?
And then coparisons to Franz Ferdinand? QOTSA? System od a Down??? Cramps??? "Enter Sandman"???
Even Prodigy's "Hot Ride"???
Definitely whatever The Strokes do we will judge them with comments based in our own knowedge... I'm sure they listen and are more influenced by bands a little older that the Ferdinands or Prodigy.

My opinion: this song is a filler. They had fillers in the first two records, why leak the lead single? Blur did something alike when they released "Don't bomb when you are the bomb" as a sample for the "new" sound of their latest "Think Tank"...

Well. Hmmm. Bass line is catchy, and I agree, I heard a Franz-like inflection in the opening second of the vocals. Not unpleasant and exciting to hear something new.

I envision this as a "Track 9" out of 11 tracks and not really as the first single to be released, per se.

The end of the song sounds more like "The Strokes" we "know & love" than the entire first half of the song.

ya know what, everyone loves to hate the Strokes way too much.
first people complain that the Is This It didn't sound as "raw" as the Modern Age EP.
then they complained that Room on Fire was like Is This It pt. 2 (which it clearly wasn't... there were new musical elements and textures brought into the sound, a la synth style guitars, etc.)
now this. they completely switch their sound around, and of course, everyone hates it (or should i say, claims to hate it).
you people are so bitter that it disgusts me. they're not aiming to be Radiohead or the Arcade Fire or some other pretentious cerebral music. the Strokes are simple, straighforward rock n roll. take it for what it is and quit over-judging every shred of music that they put out.

This song is pretty damn good. I see alot of people on here commenting that they dont like it, or even hate it. But by the intelligence of their arguments, those people just dont like good music. Strokes covering Franz Ferdinand? Franz Ferdinand is a strokes cover band, so that would be like The Strokes covering the Strokes. Some other dude said "it sounds like theyve been listening to Queens of the Stone Age". Ummmmmm, okay dude.

This song is tough, i love the new production. It took me a couple listens to get into, but then again so has every one of my favorite all time albums.

i dont get it either...
for once every group member is stepping outside or maybe even inside his covert comfort zone and is playing/singing out of his balls and everyone hates it. every truly GREAT band has to step up his music periodically in their careers. its called maturation. some do it well and some do it awefully (weezers new album is an example of it, infact its the most uninspired immature album from an experienced group i've ever heard) if you want lounge music i can give you the names of a couple great electronica groups. this is rock. personally i would be sick to hear any more boop-de-boop-doo-boop-boop from nikolai, the bands bassist and i think the distortion is perfect for the mood this song is trying to set. slight reverb is icing on the cake. comparisons to franz ferdinand and queens of the stone age are a joke. and oh by the way, i absolutely hate how EVERYTHING is a knockoff...but then again we're talking about really inspired music appreciators here :-p tempo changes in all kinds of music are nothing new guys, like as in centuries old. you guys really make me laugh

eh, the song is all right for me.. nothing spectacular though. reminds me of how pissed I was to hear "beverly hills" for the first time.. knowing it was Weezer's first "single". but, for me, in the end it was the worst song on the album and overall I found the album to be a quality release.

keep in mind that the singles are the songs with the most commercial/general/radio appeal, not the best of the album.

high hopes for the rest of it :D

Juice Box sounds like a 3rd rate stock 'thrash-metal' riff that every band in the SF Bay Area was doing from 87'-89'. Christ, any 15 year old metal dude with a peavey amp, ProCo Rat and Jackson clone guitar could produce this riff in his sleep.

Then the song slides into the 'major progression' that sounds like an outake from an 80's Rush album.

The produciton value is suspect, the song writing is not there and the lyrics are flat out stupid.

The Jokes, I mean Stokes can't even reinvent themselves with any gravitas. Once again, all the access to coke, hot sluts and recording industry blow hards does not me you can WRITE A SONG!

I always thought that the secret ingredient to The Strokes recipe for cool, was their innocence, y'know? Yeah, they're decadent and jaded, but you come away from their albums feeling like, at their core, they believe in love and sincerity. It's always a surprise when they--the arbiters of "cool"--opt for a cheesy video game reference. Even when the lyrics come off trite, it makes you grin and think: just some NYC kids, gettin' their kicks. This new track is different, which is important for the guys this time around. The base line reminds me of Peter Gunn and Spy Hunter. Overall, the track sounds like a mash-up of Nine Black Alps and The Murder City Devils with Jim Morrison up front. I think it will take this track a little bit of time to catch on, because it truly is different, but it'll catch on in a big way. I also think it's probably not reflective of the rest of the album. Mark my words, this is going to have a real effect on the direction of American pop. Kids, I think, are tired of Franz's disco (nobody's listening to that new one stateside), and they definitely weren't gonna' go for The Strokes 3.0. Cool track.

it took them two years to make this? it's terrible.

this kind of stuff always baffles me, because it's not like they're doing the anti-pop thing - like so many people have pointed out they are essentially a pop band - yet there is absolutely nothing endearing/catchy/interesting/danceable about this song. it sounds lazy and is frustratingly non-catchy. how can they run out of ideas so fast? i seriously think every other song they've done (even that "post modern girls" song with regina spektor, a freaking b-side for gods sake) is better than this. and it's a single?

and this is never a good sign; my 12-year-old bro (who worships ac/dc, led zep and the hives... he's still learning) said this is his favourite strokes song by far.

The song is a grower. Initially i thought it sounded a bit ordinary but that chorus is in my head and i can't get it out. Its like 12:51 in that i felt it was dull to start with and now i worship the song. And anyone who says it rubbish i'd love to see them do better.

I think Juice Box is a bit of shock to everyone- no one was reali expectin this 'cool, superheroish' outcome, but the strokes are appreciated for being different- i've listened to the song more then once, (yes over again) and im easily (after initially being confused) adjusting to the 'original' base line, - just maybe they can be forgiven for this, most likely
hope Nick ( if he is the guy that plays base) can cope with playing this.
Just like so many people have said about 12:51- its rare to like a band where you like every single song they do ( but after forcing yourself to listen to it a few more times you hear it from different sides), the song isn’t that bad, maybe just a little (to?) unexpected – I mean it’s been 2 years what on earth were strokes fans to expect.
Very glad their they’re not becoming repetitive

I think this is just a bad song. Like someone said in the comments before, if the Strokes came out tomorrow and said "haha it's a fake, shit isn't it?" i'd breathe a huge sigh of relief and stop trying to trick myself into liking it. The production and the newer sound has got me excited about the album but this is still just a bad song.

OK, I also felt that "wtf?" feeling upon first listen, but now I think it's really good....just listen to it 3 or 4 times, it really kicks in once you get into it. And now that I'm familiar with it, I find it has that great Strokes thing about it...the way they don't overplay a riff/hook and let it become boring - they play the good bits just enough to make you want more, and then snap, it's over too soon, and already I'm finding that I'm playing it again and again.
The bass/guitar relationship is good and creates lots of subtle harmonies and pleasing tones, to my ears. I likee.

I think since RoomOnFire was like a continuation of IsThisIt, we should be happy that the new album sounds different. However, I had to listen to juicebox a few times before I got the hang of actually hearing what Julian is saying. I have faith in The Strokes and the rest of the album.

Julian sounds as though, Hes actually trying this time round. He was sounding a little bored in Room on fire and it wasnt a very consistant album, As for the new song it has it has glimpses of The Strokes glory but then its diminished. Lets just hope that this isnt one of the best songs on the album and sadly now i hope the new album is as inconsistant as Room on fire, just so theres a chance that theres another song (like reptillia )that can remind me why I love the strokes. Any who, the song its self isnt a total drop. It just doesnt seem to be what Ive been waiting two years for, But Im still looking forward to the album.

I absolutley love the strokes. Is this it was a
masterpiece, room on fire was near perfect. This new single on the otherhand, shines light in the new direction the band is travling, and it may be away from selling out huge venues; but that may be ok. Like most people said, the base line is a little familar, but what I don't like is the new production, its too clean cut and very "unstrokesmanlike" conduct. The new album will sell, unless its leaked and reviewed as a trash, only time will tell, either way i'll pay $26 and go see them when they come. Cheers.

ok, firstly all you little bitches that are like, "They used ot be such a nice little pop band" shut up and go to hell. Have you just smashed your brains out with a large heavy object?
A) Pop is an abreviation for the term "Popular Music" and there for any music that is popular at the time is "Pop"
B) If you look at the tracks on all there albums you can quite clearly see a progression, they are experementing with their sound.
C) Who the hell are you guys to criticise any music whatsoever as you couldn't make anything even comparable to what they have done in this song.
D) There not fucking Juke Boxes to churn out little teeny bopper hits cos you like it better, thats called selling out children.
Well i feel better now.. and i havent checked my spelling so im sure there is plenty of typos for you to pick me up on.

At first listen, this song is a contrast to everything we've ever heard by the Strokes, but this song grows on you.. quick. like, i've listened to it a total of 7 times since i got it last night from my friend. And I'm already humming it and stuff.
I think it's a good form. And Julian Casablancas is a great conveyer and portrayer. He knows how to make us feel what he's saying.

I always thought of the Strokes as kind of a dirty, gorgeous, tough but sensitive, pretty-boy band and this song does nothing to hinder that reputation.

WHY WONT YOU COME OVER HERRREEE?
sorry guys.

i <3 the strokes and i'm sooo looking forward to the album!!! :)

i dislike the singing in the verses and i hate the distortion on the bass... and the line itself. i blame their new producer david kahne who is trying to prove himself by changing the sound. Its a decent song, but the bass is too loud and you can hardly hear the rhythem guitar or drums. I also hear alot of you saying "julian is actually trying to sing" but jules does open up like that in last night and reptilia, its nothing new. the "why dont you come over here" line sounds like hes trying to sing like the hives. but overall im very upset that they lost their simplistic new york garageband sound. DAMN YOU DAVID KAHNE!

It's...well...different, I guess?!? But not TOO unexpected, seeing as this is what their sound has been building up to become, after R.O.F. It's the natural progression from album to album. But to be honest, I am missing what they used to be, but oh well. They're the strokes, so even if they produced shit, the majority of people would eventually force themselves to think it was good because we're all so in love with them already, and can't think otherwise.

this new song is soooooo sick!!! Although I absolutely love the first two albums, and have been listening to them for the past four years, I think this album is going to be the best yet. NME and Rolling Stone both listened to all the tracks from the new album, and Rolling stone said this made the first two albums look like childs play, and considering Rolling Stone rated both albums at 4 stars, being excellent, I think that this album is going to be the best yet, and rock the socks off everyone!! I hate it when people jump on the bandwagon, but honestly, it bothers me that shit bands like good charlotte are popular and people like the strokes, who make amazing music, are confined to underground radio and to fans who heard from word of mouth or happened to get lucky early on and hear of them right when their first alubm was released (me, I lucked out as there was some article on them and I investigated and was forever changed in my music taste), so I hope this is their breakout album, and at least gets them somewhat more popular in the states, making them tour here more instead of in the damn UK all the time, leaving us poor fans in the US stranded, especially arizona haha. Anyways, had to let it out there, but this track efffing rocks the house!!! Sooo sickkk and casablancas is finally using his real voice, which is sickkkk!!

Wow this is extremely from their more simplistic first two albums. I think the begginning sucks ass especially when it sounds like julian is talking and then screams about 38 seconds into the songs. The drums are also much more complicated from the first two albums. I like the hook about 50 seconds in. That sounds cool. Overall i dont like it.

That vines part blows.
The so cold part is awesome.
I think the bass has too much gain.
its missing either a classic nick guitar solo, or an albert one. I think they were all drunk when they did this, fab doesn't sound like he is wearing his green t-shirt, and i bet albert's hair is no longer fro-ishly cool.
I think the song is ok.

I didn't quite know what to make of this song when I first heard it, but I think it's really good. The intro's odd at first and I for a second didn't even think it was the strokes...but it's not that different from the kind of thing they did with the intro of reptilia...perhaps Juicebox just needs a little drum intro before the bass kicks in so it doesnt sound so full on...

but the pre-chorus is fuckin awesome, some of the most energetic shit the strokes have come up with yet, the "we got a city to love" is pure genius. the actual chorus still doesnt sound quite right to me but it's not bad. I've got to hand it to them, an entirely different vibe from Last Nite or 12:51... I didn't know if they could do it.

Juicebox is a worthy addition to the Strokes catalogue... better than Meet Me In the Bathroom, worse than What What Ever Happened... but certainly not shit. i would like to read the lyrics in their entirety as its hard to hear sometimes.

but yeah, pretty wicked song. much better than Franz's "Do You Want To" or Death Cab's "Soul Meets Body" or most of the pre-album singles we've seen this year.

I think this song shows promise and potential for the new album.. So much fucking hate and love for this song going around. I'm glad to see that there's a little excitement going around this time, since Room on Fire didn't stir much up aside from those who were already planning on buying it.

I do agree that the opening bass-line is just a tad bit... stupid. It's not bad in terms of contrasting the other parts of the song, but I think they should have cut down on the intro and started at around :12. I also like that the solo is a little less loopy than what they've typically had in the past. Room on Fire was great, but I'm glad they're trying something new.

Even if this album eats total shit, they'll learn from it and the fourth album will probably strike the right balance between experimentation and the old stuff. Regardless, I'm not gonna bail on 'em till the album after this one. Now if that one completely blows...

It's something completely different compared to the last 2 albums but is great. And if you don't like it, well wait until you listen the whole album, hard to explain is great but it isn't the best of is this it, don't you think so? the same can happen to juicebox.

Holy smokes! When i first heard this song i wasn't sure what to make of it. It was nothing that i expected. The first time i heard the bassl line and julian come in singing i was like WHA?! the strokes have got more heavy in this album? but then you get through the song, and it turns into this ace melody, with actually good singing thats clear and crisp. Its very different to their two other albums, but you can still feel the original strokes pezazz in this song. alas! i was looking for hte lyrics and could not find them. this song is certainly a "grower" as the first time you hear it you are confused. Although i must say i listened to juice box, adn then "is this it" came on. I was freaked out even more.

though i am a huge strokes fan, i have to agree with most of the comments. the first thirty seconds are excruciating and i swear i could hear Jet in the chorus. i do like the fact that julian opened up his vocals a little more.. he's bringing jim morrison back from the dead!

its got a velvet revolver kinda bassline thing going on. and then franz ferdinand sings at the start for a while!

Is this it and Room on Fire are two classic albums and naturally its gonna be hard to live up to that.

agree that hes better singing a 'bored' style but disagree that the album can get any worse than that song.

Everyone's been waiting for the strokes to try something different just so they could slag the life out of them because nobody can knock any of thier previous masterpeices.

I find that if you take it too seriously you will be dissapointed... have an open mind i say. It's a fun. catchy tune just to break the ice for their other tracks.

the fact that its getting people worked up and confused and surprised means theyre doing their job. i myself was surprised and i really like the bass and how its something new. as someone else said a while back, you have to give them credit for trying something new. what's the point of listening to bands when you know what they're gonna throw at you, and they do put out the same sound on all their records?

Artist : The Strokes
Title : Juicebox
-----------------

Everybody sees me
But it’s not that easy
Standing in the light field (standing in the light field)
Waiting for some action (waiting for some action)
Oh, but why won’t you come over here?

Why won’t you come over here?
We got a city to love.
Why won’t you come over here?
We got a city to love.

Old time grudges will die so slowly
I know you miss the way I saw you
And cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold,
You’re so cold .

Nobody can see me
Everything’s too easy
Standing in the light field (standing in the light field)
Waiting for some action (waiting for some action)
Sister why won’t you come over here?

Why won’t you come over here?
We got a city to love.
Why won’t you come over here?
We got a city to love.

Old time lifts home will die so swiftly
You never trust me
For a while it was nice, but it’s time to say bye
Oh, cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold

No, no, no, cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold

Oh, no, no, no, no, cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold, you’re so cold

Oh, you should go.

"Sister" could be "She said"

and "lifts home" could be anything, its near impossible to tell.

You lot are damn hippies, The Strokes are good, so what if they sound different to alot of people ,i bet if they did the same kind of songs as before you would be complaining 'its too old, they need something new.
Alot of theses haters aren't into indie music in the first place and suck off on 'greasy old men in leather jackets' style like metallica, guns n roses, led zepplin.. who just get off on showing off how 'talented'they are and making crap songs that need 25 hour solos to justify themselves and lead singers have whiny voices that litterally sound like someone is strangling cats.
The stokes are sharp and effective, back off its one song and all though i wouldnt say its a classic i thinks its still good. I dont actually think its that differnt anyway i could still idnetify it was the strokes so what more could you want.

I'll always love the way they can balance a song out to sound tough and yet, pretty at the same time. It's truly a gift when a band can do that..and continue to do that like the Stokes have.

I had mixed feelings the first few listens. Yes, Franz is in there somewhere, they're trying hard to rock out(perhaps they toured with Kings of Leon too long), and the song is just too choppy for The Strokes we all thought we knew. But seriously, picture yourself at the next show, 11 beers and 3 joints deep... this song comes on and you'll be rocking out like its, er, 1969??

Then again, 11 beers and 3 joints will make anyone rock out to Ted Nugent. I remain skeptical, but I'm waiting for the whole album.

I noticed how the song seems to be two different genres, there's the franz ferdinand fast tempo rock and then there's indie/ strokes sounding music (especially at the end) and I predict that there's going to be quite a bit of both sounds on their next album so I hope they chose this as their first single because it has both styles to give you a taste of what you can expect from their new album. I also give credit to Julian for actually attempting to sing, as well as how they're mixxing up a bunch of different styles, I'd rather see them try something new and fail then to wear out the same thing again. I mean I really loved both Is This It and Room On Fire and I definitly don't complain about them sounding very similar but if they make their third album sound the same I definitly think that a lot of people will complain. I'll wait and see until I hear some more stuff or more info on their new album before knocking it. You never know, we might all be surprised and have a kick ass album on our hands come January.

Ok most of are probly realy lame and just watch mtv your record collection consits of the vines, franz ferdinad, the killers, and the white stripes. don't me wrong jack white is prety cool. but the reason i liked the stokes so much is because they really good musical roots such as the velvet underground(an awsome band). When the first album came out they were on mtv with video for last night, that video is so cool because none of them are wearing make up you can see julians acne. thas awsome thats real the music video live and filmed with a smipple camera. they were so real then. jullian along with nick, albet, fab, and nickolah did not need to freak out like every other band did. They were new music on the sceen that was like the music of the 1970s wich is awsome music. now they just sliped into the catagory of every other band. I don't blame them I blame their new lame ass producer.

I was also kindof dissapointed when i heard this song, only because it is soo different from the first two albums, i hope that ihe rest of the CD is better because i have been waiting for it to come out for a while... i think it is just a little out of character for the strokes to become harcore all of a sudden, they seem to be turning mainstream, which i don't like.

The Strokes could come out with an orgasm in the form of a song, and still some of you wankers would be like, "OMG! THIS SUCKS OMG!" You call yourself fans? Learn a bit about rock and roll and then come back and critique the song. There's nothing wrong with disliking the song, but I think many of you are missing something.

Juicebox is a gem, as is the other new one that leaked -- "I'll Try Anything Once." To be honest, they are better than anything they've done before, and I LOVE the first two CD's...
The new songs are clear, clean and catchy. I think the band will really be hitting a new high with this entire album.

Great Tune. The first time I heard it I was a little let down, the more I hear it, WOW! This song is fantastic. I can't believe this wasn't received better. Some of these commentators are so obsessed with labeling bands, staying indie (this band was never indie anyway), avoiding the mainstream, that they miss out on a good song. Who cares who's singing it or what they put out years ago, it doesn't matter as long as the music is good.

Another thing, how can you not like this baseline!? Along with Julian's voice, they are becoming atleast a bit more adventurous. Do you guys actually respect the bassist when he hits the same note 20 times and then moves on to another for another 20 times? This is just pure fun.

My first impression was...wait a sec, did I click on the right link? It sounded nothing like the past albums, and for this they will lose credibiity. But not from me. After the 3rd time listening to "Juicebox" it left a savory bitter-sweet aftertaste that soon became addictive. The bassline reminds me of playing a videogame for unknown reasons, and the follow-up latter part of the song sounds like the classical Strokes we all know and love. I have faith, come January.

i really like this first track, nos only for the song itself, but what the whole album may hde, ir reminds me when reptilia came out. reptilia is the differente song of room on fire, tats why they put it as first single, and i believe this case will eb similar, strokes dont put the best song at first, you discover them in b sides!
chiao!

The Strokes

Juicebox

by The Strokes

Everybody sees me
But it's not that easy
Standing in my life fields
Standing in a light field
Waiting for some action
Waiting for some action over

Why won't you come over here?

Why won't you come over here?
We've got a city to love

Why won't you come over here?
We've got a city to love

Oh damn good years
You've got? so show me
I know you messed up
When i saw you

You're cold
You're so cold
You're so cold
You're so cold

Nobody decieve me
Everything's too easy
Standing in the life fields
Standing in the light field
Waiting for some action
Waiting for some action she said

Why won't you come over here?

Why won't you come over here?
We've got a city to love

Why won't you come over here?
We've got a city to love

Oh down the soul

And i said "set free"
You never chose me
For a while it was nice
But it's time to say goodbye

You're cold
You're so cold
You're so cold
You're so cold

No no no cold
You're so cold
You're so cold
You're so cold

Oh no no no no cold
You're so cold
You're so cold
You're so cold

Ooooh you should go

I love it, hope you guys all do. These are the most accurate lyrics I could find.

i love the strokes, and i agree with those of you who say that they are one of the best artists out there today. i highly anticipated this album, and i watched it download, wondering what was it going to be like? change. in a damn good way
Is This It was there softer pure alternative rock album, and it rocked
Room on Fire added in the synth guitars and such
The new stuff is going to be excellent
and for those of you assholes, julian's over the telephone singing is something that made the strokes for me. Im with them all the way on their new album. cant wait to see them in chicago!

this song is rad. i admire how the strokes are able to take a step forward and try someting new. its whats the strokes are all about, soundin' fresh and different. julian's sound is a lot stronger, and yet, he's still able to maintain that cool vibe about him. in juicebox, we hear some new crazy distortion effects. like when they changed things up with 12:51. i can't wait 'till they start tournin' in the mainland. fan for life you blokes

I like Juicebox. It's been stuck in my head for the past 2 days. I remember I read in Spin Magazine that Julian said something like "People have said this track is really ugly, I think it's got a great personality." At any rate, I'm looking forward to hearing "Ask Me Anything" (it supposedly came to Julian in a dream) and "Razorblade" (it includes the line: My feelings are more important than yours). Ah, gotta love the Strokes.

the new song is kind of weird, different, but wit a huge quality, u guys r just mad coz u r some frustraded musicians thta just can't make such a good song, casablancas rules, his voice is unique, moretti's drums really rock, nikolai's bass is kool, and hammond and valensi's guitars riffs just are awesome!!!! fuck u jealous

When I first listened to 'Juicebox'. It was like a lot like '12:51' it was different and I liked it. The sound seemed more 'raw'than Room On Fire.

Very dissapointed in Albert though, he is a good guitarist. Being a guitarist myself I felt it needed a better guitar riff (like The End Has No End. The good thing is The Strokes are expanding just like The White Stripes did with their new album.

At the 1:56 mark...

Sounds similiar to Reptilia or Hard to Explain. I don't believe it's somewhere way the fuck off on the opposite end of the spectrum from what they've already done. (It's obvious that they've done some growing up though) I realize it's a roundabout way of saying it, but I'm in love.

Am I the only one who thinks this song whoops ass?

I immediately loved this song the first time I heard it, but I had no idea it was the Strokes until I heard it the third or fourth time and the radio DJ said what it was. I admit I did think it was the Hives or Vines at first, and was surprised to learn it was indeed the Strokes, but now that I know I don't love it any less. In fact I like it better than anything on Is This It with the possible exception of "Someday" and "Alone Together" (I don't have Room on Fire). (Of course there's always the possibility that the radio station I listen to will overplay it and I'll get sick of it in about two weeks or so, but that won't be Julian and co.'s fault.) I was actually going to compare the bass line (which I love, dammit) to the Clash's "Brand New Cadillac" (which itself covers a song from the '50s) but I listened to the latter song and naw, it doesn't really sound like that. But anyway, yeah, I dig this song.

Love the Strokes, esp. the first album, and I do appreciate that they seem to be trying to go in new directions because their first two albums were darn similar. But this track is very average - they don't seem to be going anywhere - the tune and chords are listenable but not enough to wake you up and say 'classic'. In that sense I expect a bit more from these boys. I bet it is a filler track. (Hope!)

Julian's voice used to sound different because he used to cover his mouth over the mic when he sang, he didn't use anything else.

I was really sad when I head Juicebox, I thought maybe someone left. It sounds nothing like The Strokes. It isn't a bad song but it's nothing compared to the things they have on Is This It and Room on Fire.

2: hooks? marketing? You are not music fans, you are culture war stock market analysts. Die.
3:This is just about the only real emotion we've heard on record this year, and that's a 'hook' in itself right about now.
4: 'you must suppost a band even if they start doing country': no, but
5: you must give a band some modicum of trust. Like, half a chance, y'know?

The album gets better everytime I listen to it!
Forget Juicebox Best single is "You Only Live Once"!

GREAT GUITAR WORK!! -- Wonderful and different vocals.

I've been hooked on this band and their other two albums for just a few months, but continue to appreciate their talent each time I listen to them.

I don't think The Strokes are trying to be different or trying to please anyone. Their real fans would like it for it's art perspective, that's the appreciation of it all. They don't need to prove anything to anyone. I think Juicebox is great! But that guy from the film clip is such a tool, heheh.

I really like The Strokes, but there's something in their new songs that don't sound 'complete,' - it's like they're half-written. Maybe it's because this was the first album where Julian would bring each song to the band half-written, and the other band members would add their bits to it. So, they don't really sound like complete songs...It's like they're made up of several different fragments that don't really 'gel' that well...Now, if you compare them to the new Jet song 'Put Your Money Where You Mouth Is,' - which is like a complete song, with an intro, catchy verse, rousing chorus, great hook and bridge, all culminating with a climactic chorus - it's just a basic difference between a half-written song and a complete song...The end result is that the new Strokes songs sound like they haven't lived up to their potential, as much as I would have liked to have seen them do so...It's just that intangible quality in songwriting - I'm sure it must be frustrating for Julian - he seems so intelligent, and I'm sure he sees the guys in Jet as just dumb-asses, but you have to hand it to them - Jet come up with these seemingly effortlessly catchy, fully-formed songs!
