New Tegan And Sara - The Con

Long weekend, lots of leaks to sop up. One of which comes from identical indie pop twins Tegan and Sara, whose fifth full-length The Con sees Death Cab's Chris Walla on production and sounds decent after a quick spin. Among the more ear grabbing is the title track and its B. Flo synths, while "Nineteen" sounds most like the single with crossover appeal (i.e. expect to hear it on a new CW teen drama this fall). The sibs seem to have become so polarizing over the past few years. Are we making that up? Don't think so -- think back to the vitriol after the White Stripes (talk about leak) cover. People got pissed about that! Or maybe it's the haircuts. Anyway, try your hand at tracking down the tracks at Hype.

Should wanting to sleep with them be prereqs for this to be good?

for some reason i always feel strange listening to them. i dont think im the market that theyre shooting for (which frankly i do think that they try to market their music more than people realize) but its just so sweet and catchy.

What does "lots of leaks" include?

Architecture in Helsinki, Shellac, and this? Anything I'm missing?

I don't think they even know what market they're targeting.

I love the White Stripes, but that cover of "Walking With A Ghost" was awful.

I am affiliated with Tegan + Sara and we are asking at this tme that no one illegally download this album. If you really like them, then wait. The Quins have requested that you do not listen to the album until after you purchase it. The album is released June 24, for the US.
Thank You

I'm sure most of the true fans will download it illegally in impatience for the real thing! I'll definitely be buying it whenever it's available in the UK, but as I don't even know when that'll be, I'm not foresaking my sneaky internet copy! It's brilliant, and maybe the leak could be a good thing - it's created a bit of hype, especially as it's come out around the same time as Architecture in Helsinki and Shellac, so maybe it'll switch more people on to them! I love the album, my favourite is back in your head. There are some quite sinister lyrics too - "I want your lungs to stop working without me"...!

I cannot wait to buy this new album!
No, wait, actually I can. I really can't believe that self-proclaimed T&S lovers will actually go out and contribute to the leaking of their music.

A lot of people claim that they do it because a band doesnt actually get to see profit from record sales. Aside from that being false, number of records sold stands as a measure to how well a band is succeeding in certain markets and just an all around measure of how "popular" they are. The more records sold equal more tour dates, more money for them, and more future records for us.
