New Voxtrot - "Steven"
Though voraciously devoured upon leak, the watercooler buzz on Voxtrot's forthcoming, self-titled debut on Beggars Banquet has, well, cooled. The band's soft and warm indie pop found fans across the blogs with their excellent EPs, but Voxtrot doesn't match those past efforts' concision, or wit. Still, "Steven"'s piano pop is one of the LP's stronger moments, save the schlocky string arrangements. Hear it at MySpace.

Voxtrot are an excellent, creative band. The Raised by Wolves EP was fantastic - one of those albums where every note, every lyric makes sense and sounds great.
Mothers, Daughters, etc. was similarly catchy. I think that if they'd curbed their EP fetish and released a solid album, they'd be somewhere very big today. The full length album is a real disappointment, and, I suspect, will make it very hard for anyone to get too excited about them (they deserve a lot more buzz.)

This shit is so fucking bad its not even funny. It's like some awful 80's MOR radio hit that your sister would sing into her fucking hairbrush in 1982. That's not a good thing. Wake up, people, this is the most ridiculous shit I've heard passed off as "indie rock" since the Cold War Kids.

Yikes. These guys are NOT what their hype would suggest. Good piano, I suppose. My friend pointed me to this guy(www.myspace.com/colinstevensonisthatguy) a few days ago. Apparently he's taking a bunch of old 4-track tapes and re-making them into a record. The demos on his site are actually really interesting. The Lions Demo got me, I think. Anyway, just a rec.
