New Walkmen - "Subterranean Homesick Blues," "All My Life"

Stream two more tunes from the Walkmen's track-for-track remake of Harry Nilsson’s Pussy Cats here. Walkmen covering Nilsson covering Dylan ... pretty cool.

The album's out next month, and according to a note posted yesterday at marcata.net, it comes with a "movie/art piece":

9/05/06

Greetings everyone.

We'll finally make it to Australia this February and we're all thrilled. We'll have the dates some time in the near future. Also thanks to everyone who stood in the rain at McArren Park Pool.

Meanwhile, we are working away at our new songs in New York now and we'll have a lot more to play out this fall...

We are putting out a cover of the Harry Nilsson/John Lennon collaboration Pussycats (out Oct 24th) which we are all very excited about. We recorded it in our own Marcata Studios as a last hurrah before the joint closed down last winter. We hadn't originally planned to re-release someone else's record, but we had a blast recording some of our favorite songs, and before we knew it we'd done the whole record and we loved it, so we thought you might like to hear it too. It'll be out on vinyl and cd, and the cd version will include a movie/art piece called In Loving Recollection, which includes an introduction to the original record, a documentary of the making of our version, and a brief history of the 20th century.

Take care.
-The Walkmen

A little too close to the original in some cases, but an impressive feat nonetheless. I wish more bands did this...I enjoy Camper Van Beethoven's Tusk.

The Walkmen should just become a glorified Harry Nilsson cover band. I'd miss their originals but damn if they didn't pull a better album than A Hundred Miles Off out of their asses for this year.

"Starring the Walkmen" seems a tad disrespectful to me. Nobody needed to hear a saxophone solo on that song.
