Dean And Gene Ween Set To Unleash La Cucaracha

The brothers Ween have have already fed us Chocolate And Cheese, Pure Guava, White Pepper, and helpings of "Pollo Asado" and "Pork Roll Egg and Cheese" .... Well, Dean and Gene are back with a promise of Latin prog, porn rock, and David Sanborn's sax on the less-than-food-y La Cucaracha, their first album in four years (and first for Rounder).

We can totally remember eating corn ships and pumping our fists to God Ween Satan: The Oneness when we were knee-high to a grasshopper, so it's amazing that those assumed burn-outs who rocked, rolled, and goaded us with "Tick," "You Fucked Up," "Fat Lenny," "Papa Zit," and "Don't Laugh (I Love You)" are on their ninth studio album in more than twenty years time. Jesus!

And how about the move to Rounder? Speaking for the band, Dean notes, "I always wanted to be on the same label that put out all those early George Thorogood records and now I am!" Good. The album was recorded "in a moldy 200 year-old farmhouse" in the boys' New Hope, PA stomping grounds. We're glad they haven't left the old 'hood and muse; though, the band will tour soon in support of the album. Dates to come! For now, peep the tracklist after the jump.

Seems like someone's been drinking from the Fountain Of Youth.

La Cucaracha Track List
01 "Fiesta"
02 "Blue Balloon"
03 "Friends"
04 "Object"
05 "Learnin To Love"
06 "With My Own Bare Hands"
07 "The Fruit Man"
08 "Spirit Walker"
09 "Shamemaker"
10 "Sweetheart"
11 "Lullaby"
12 "Woman And Man"
13 "Your Party"

La Cucaracha is out 10/23 on Rounder.

It's sad that the indie kids don't appreciate Ween more. There last 2 albums White Pepper and Quebec are excellent.

Ween are one of the better bands to see live. They can actually take their songs to "new and exiciting places," as oppossed to just hearing the record live. I've been with Ween for a long time, and I'll buy their albums as long as they keep putting them out. ...and I'm not just saying that b/c I'm from the pencil (PA).

Quebec is so good -- at Lolla '06 I was surprised they only played one song from it.

This is going to be an awesome album... Ween has yet to disappoint me.

I'm not sure how "Friends" made it onto the album, though. I was under the impression that the 5 tracks from this summer's EP were free-standing and independent.

The version of Friends on the album is a different version than that on the EP, apparently.

I don't understand why these guys aren't fucking huge.

As a former resident of New Hope, PA, "Pumpin for the Man" has to be one of the best songs ever recorded! I love these guys and I have fond fond memories of seeing them at John and Peter's and serving them drinks!

Ween rules!

Did anyone watch the new Weeds (S3E1 I think) where they play "You Fucked Up" after Celia dumps all the weed?

So awesome!

Props to Weeds for continually picking great jams to compliment an already solid show.

I got my tickets for the Oct. 17 show in Champaign, Ill. I can't wait.

While I still think it's good, I don't think "Quebec" is as strong as, say, "Chocolate and Cheese" or "The Mollusk."

Just listiened to La Cucaratcha today for the first time. This album kicks ass! Shamemaker reminds me of the time I kicked the shit out of an EMO pussy. The new version of "Friends" on this album is better than the EP. Ween. You guys break ground every album! Cheers to you.
