Obviously we're not as cool as Miss Modernage, but you already knew that. Check out Laura's excellent account of the swanky event and learn all about the album.

The Electric Sixy first single "Blue Orchid" has been making the blog rounds. Try here or here for an MP3.

Get Behind Me Satan will be released June 7. Stereogum's all for Satanic rock (and the devil did have the Best Week Ever last week.) The Louvin Bros got nothing on Jack & Meg.

White Stripes fans should make this their desktop wallpaper and keep an eye out for a Gondry-directed "Orchid" clip on the MTV2.

Good God I love this band. I just saw their concert Film this weekend, and now after hearing Blue Orchid, I am reminded of why I like the Stripes so much. They make good Rock music, nothing Fancy or pretenttious, just great Rock and Roll.

satanic rock? well, I'm not sure if this album title is in reference to the Jesus quote or the ella fitzgerald song. anyone care to speculate?

I most definitely think it's refering to the quote in the Bible. Jack was raised in an all-Catholic family.

more on my theory here:

I have to say when I first heard it I thought wow the new ACDC song rocks! That riff kills me, hope the rest of the album has balls this big.

I have that Louvin Brothers album- it's great. Granted I'm still not sure if it's for real or an in joke but the Louvins made some great stuff. I remeber awhile back in Vanity Fair Beck noted that "Satan Is Real" was one of his fav album covers.

I'm usually quite pleased with the output of the White Stripes, but this new single is just boring. I hope the rest of the album fares better.

Dammit, the mp3 doesn't work for me (could be the shitty work 'puter).

I have the hugest talent-crush on lil John Anthony. Well, OK, the tight red pants don't hurt . . .

I am sure that the title "Get behind me Satan" is some delta blues reference. Recall the Robert Johnson myth, how he sold his soul to Satan in exchange for being able to play the guitar, had a hellhound on his tail, and was later killed mysteriously. If you've ever seen them play, you'll know that Jack White really tries to embody that old delta blues singer persona, which includes a knack for old southern religion. So I'm sure that this is where the title stems from.

why is no one bothered that they are JACKING eagles of death metal with this song - it sounds just like "i only want you."
"get behind me satan"... that's kinda homoerotic:
jack white ♥ jesse the devil

robb... gospel music. but, good guess. gospel is God's music. blues is the music of the Devil. or so "they" say.

until Ray Charles crossed it over, among others...

the ole' good vs. evil, hmmmm...which is it J.? good or evil? wouldn't we all like to know...

look up the Almanac Singers...

previous post-er is right about the bible, BTW.

i think Jack's influences are more diverse than simply Delta Blues, though that figures a large part of it...folk, blues, then gospel, which all overlap anyways.

peace out@

Who cares what the title of the album came from? Part of the appeal of the White Stripes is that you never really know where they are coming from. I heard blue orchid yesterday, and i can't wait to hear it again. I loved the guitar and meg's drums were used only when needed and did an excellent job at emphasizing the right parts. I kept wishing the song wouldnt end, but it did too soon. I guess that means it is a great song right?
