New Whitest Boy Alive - "Island"

thubmnail icon: New Whitest Boy Alive - "Island"

In the excitement over the prospect of a new Kings of Convenience album, we nearly forgot to check in with Erlend Øye's other group Whitest Boy Alive. The project, conceived as a showcase for the folkie's dance songs, morphed from programmed beats only to a full-fledged touring electropop band. Since 2006's debut Dreams, singer/guitarist Erlend, bassist Marcin Öz and drummer Sebastian Maschat recruited Daniel Nentwig on Crumar (Crumar?) and spent time in Mexico and Berlin writing eleven songs for LP2 Rules.

They check in via MySpace blog:

New Record!

Dear fans and friends around the world. Since we completed "Dreams" in early 2006 this has happened:- Daniel Nentwig joined the band fulltime on Rhodes and Crumar(an italian synthesizer)- We have played 120 concerts in Europe and MexicoAnd now, emerging from soundchecks and end-of-concert jams has come 11 songs which make up our second long player "Rules".It started with 2 months in the end of 2007 in nayarit, mexico, at the house of our friend Adrian Meyer Dentzel, where we first helped him building a studio, Glass Cube, while at the same time working on the songarrangements in the living room of the house among geckos and butterflies. Then we spent the last 3 weeks recording it, doing take after take till we felt satisfied. Back home in berlin after christmas, we set up operations in one of the 60 empty radio-studio rooms in the Funkhaus building in east berlin, where recorded again what we werent happy with yet.Through out autumn of 2008 we have mixed the album with norman nitzsche at Villa Qrella like we did with "Dreams" and we are very happy with the results.Island, a song many of you will recognize from our liveshows, will be uploaded to our myspace as an appetizer for the record, that will come out early march.Going on tour in europe in april. see you there?

Will have to check my calendar. Enjoy it:

Immediately rewarding from 1st listen. I was nervous about them following up Dreams, but Rules may actually be better.
