Zach Galifianakis & Fiona Apple - "Up In Them Guts"

thumbnail icon: Zach Galifianakis & Fiona Apple - "Up In Them Guts"

Old chums and videomates Zach and Fiona make a promo. "Up In Them Guts" comes to us via the giving hands of the ever-great Chunklet magazine which -- after a three year wait -- is set to release its 20th issue. This "ultra-danceable track" is one side of a Chunklet-commissioned 7" that pairs perfectly with the mag's new installment: both feature Galifianakis, and both also feature a primer on trans-Atlantic translations of various vagina slang. Well at least the song does. Come over and get it.

I think we all learned a little something about fannies and the UK today. If you angled your ears just so you also should have heard track contributions from Horrible People mastermind AD Miles, as well as all-around mastermind Jon Brion. On the flip of the "Up In Them Guts" 7" is Ted Leo + Pharamacists doing "Rock'n'Roll Dreams'll Come Through," which got its wings via The Best Show on WFMU (and was featured on Tom Scharpling and Jon Wuster's New Hope For The Ape-Eared CD).

Order the single here (first 500 get a picture disc), although the rules clearly state: "Available only with purchase (of something other than the single) at chunklet.com." One suggestion: the long-awaited new issue. Details:

In this, the 20th issue of Chunklet (20 issues, 15 years!), it promises to be the most brutal issue yet. Featuring interviews with Paul F. Tompkins, Zach Galifianakis, Jon Glaser and Sublime Frequencies. There are also features involving Whirlyball with Arcade Fire, The Shins, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Lips, Deerhunter, Death Cab for Cutie, Mogwai and countless others. Features also on music journalists, drug appreciation, good guys/bad bands and the usual array of Chunklet insanity (or inanity depending on your outlook).

If not/in addition, check Henry Owings' Rock Bible, which is a "rulebook ... full of dos and don'ts for musicians, wannabe musicians, and rock fans of all ages" and features essays from Patton Oswalt, Brian Teasley, and Andrew Earles. Whatever you decide, don't be confused: vaginas are the same all over the world.

UPDATE: It should be noted that the track first popped in '06, which is probably why Zach's all about sucking it off 2006 style.

Is anyone else as annoyed with this wannabe hipster poser Zack Stephanopolis or whatever his dumb name is? I hate him, he's unfunny, crude, and trashy. And very very not funny. Saw him on Last Call with Carson Daly once, and he was a little nard.

didn't you know that hipsters who go cultural slumming for juvenile laughs will ALWAYS be funny? no, i kinda agree. ZG has his moments, but mostly, i think people are laughing a bit too hard for it to be real. i always think his stuff is just kinda dumb. but i just said this on stereogum, so let the negative ratings be loosed. learn from my mistakes, kids. never cross the mindcrime overlords of the hipster nation.

Why am I only hearing this now if it came out in 2006? Shame on you Internet for keeping awesome things secret for way too long.

This is from the show Zach starred called Dog Bites Man.

Only it's been cleaned up a lot.

Jason speaks the truth. Zach played a character on Dog Bites Man named Alan Finger (hence the "The Fiiiiiiiiingerrrrr" part). Finger performed this song at a Panama City nightclub during spring break. Weird show, but it was pretty funny.

This is shit. It is not one of those songs that is to clever to understand the true meaning of. It is just shit.

Just read about this in Blender, so I'm several months (years?) late to it.
Fiona = ultra cool. Love her. This song is cute but doesn't deserve more than one listen. Too bad the dude didn't stay in the background and give Fi the spotlight. Did I mention I love her?

Ok I don't really see where the joke is sposed to be in this song. I mean I laughed, but mostly out of feeling awkwardly sorry for poor Fiona Apple, who's career will forever be tarnished with this ungodly attempt at humour. Blah.
