New Beastie Boys (Feat. Nas) - "Too Many Rappers"

thubmnail icon: New Beastie Boys (Feat. Nas) - "Too Many Rappers"

On the same day Adam Yauch told us he has cancer and the band's taking a break so he can recover, we get a listen to the man doing his thing in Hot Sauce Committee Part 1's "Too Many Rappers." When he drops the line "I been in the game since before you was born / I might still be MC-ing after you're gone" it doesn't seem eerie or foreboding, but more the words of a survivor who will keep on doing just that. (Like they've been doing since 1979, if you can believe it.) As noted above, and as at Bonnaroo, Nas shows up with some words, too, lowering the average MC age just a bit.

Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1 is out late 2009 via Capitol.

There really are a bunch of loathsome douchebags out there. Can't show a little love for a dude with cancer and a totally solid new Beastie Boys song? Seriously, fuck you people.

"Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1 is out 9/15 via Capitol."

No, it's not. The release got pushed back. Do you not read your own website?

brandon, easy on the sentimental shit. ugh. we know you care about yauch, we all do, but you sound like a hallmark card. blech.

I don't know if it's Hallmark... it's just sorta human. The guy has a line in the song about being around for a long time. It's a line anyone who listens closely to the song will notice, especially since we're posting it the same day he tells us he has cancer. You could read the line in a number of ways, no? I just posted my reading of it. That's about it.

The beat is dope. I'd like to hear the official version of this and not some lowgrade mp3

I don't hear anything about this song that even remotely resembles "bad." This is like 100x better than anything that was on 5 Boroughs.

This is really horrible news.

I hope he starts drinking 4-6 ounces of wheat grass daily. Truly.

Maybe they can reactivate the Grand Royal magazine during this hiatus. Those first batch of early issues are fantastic examples of what print music journalism could-and-should be.

Get well, MCA.

Song's awesome. Definitely the best thing I've heard from them since ALIVE. Sucks about the cancer. MCA will get through, no doubt. On the bright side, my reservations about this album are gone based on this track.

Well yes, cancer sucks. But hey, at least it gives him something to rap about other than how long he's been rapping for.

This sounds much better than it did at Bonnaroo and not for the obvious studio vs. live reason.

From what he said on the video, it sounds like they caught it early enough to stop it. Let's hope so! As for the track -- it's not a terrible track, but it's missing *something*.

This track is killer - reminds me of Ill Communication. Had tixs to see the boys at lollapalooza next month here in the CHI - bummed about that, but stoked for the new album.

Anyone who thinks this track is bad is obviously still stuck on License to Ill and needs to realize that every album they have put out since trumps that sophomoric effort. Why do you think the band doesn't play anything from this album anymore??!

actually, licensed to ill is more like a freshmanic effort, isn't it? and saying to the five boroughs is better is just silly.

License To Ill was their debut album. And yes, they do play songs from it all the time, especially "Paul Revere."

1. Get well soon, Adam. I hope you are able to beat the cancer. We'll keep you in our minds and our hearts. I'm surprise the notes haven't been flooding in by now.
2. Applesauce, biatch!

I'm all for the Beasties coming with some new great shit and having another hurrah- this beat is so bland and awful, this reminds of of the same problem other artists like Trent Reznor are having with trying to come with new hot shit. The beat production on this track just isn't there. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping there are other tracks that will bring it.
