New Jarvis Cocker - "Fantastic Mr. Fox AKA Petey's Song"

thubmnail icon: New Jarvis Cocker - "Fantastic Mr. Fox AKA Petey's Song"

Jarvis Cocker's in banjo wrangling, jaw harp twanging mode for "Fantastic Mr. Fox AKA Petey's Song," a playful song about vittles and the handsome little fox in Wes Anderson's Roald Dahl-inspired, Videogum-beloved Fantastic Mr. Fox. Cocker voices Petey in the film, and that's your first look at him above. George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray also voice the stop-motion tale. Along with "Petey's Song," the soundtrack includes the Stones, Beach Boys, some Burl Ives, an Alexandre Desplat score, and a few other songs you've heard before.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox soundtrack is out 11/3 via Abkco.

Looking back Wes was way ahead of the curve on the sad whale underwater melancholy business...He often gets the music and visuals exactly right...

Mike Nichol's "The Graduate" was the pioneer for the "sad whale underwater melancholy business," in my opinion. Maybe not so much "whale," more "sad underwater melancholy."

Music and visuals in that film = phenomenal.

The Jarvis Cocker Petey song is supposed to be awful.. You have to watch the film to see why. Guys from Pitchfork might jump too quickly and contrast this to Karen O's awesome soundtrack in WTWTA (or whatever Thom Yorke is contributing in New Moon) and give the Fantastic Mr. Fox song a 1.576 rating.
