New Lil Wayne - "Prom Queen"

thubmnail icon: New Lil Wayne - "Prom Queen"

The Carter III was good, so kudos to Weezy for getting wise and ditching this rap thing for his next release. Huh? Well it's all true: Lil Wayne is making a "rock record" instead of a rap record, and it's out this April. Despite earlier statements suggesting this would be titled Tha Carter III: Rebirth while featuring none of the songs from the original Tha Carter III (obvs) (ugh), this won't have anything to do with Tha Carter III. It'll just be a rock record called Rebirth. With audible autotune! All the rock records have audible autotune. A taste:

If that gets pulled, you can hear it starting tomorrow (1/27) at MySpace. Rebirth is due out 4/7.

Is this what Lil Wayne considers rock music? Sounds like an inexperienced Hype Machine producer's mashup experiment, which is what I initially thought when hearing it.

The day has come when all those who have been swinging from Lil' Wayne's balls for the last year realized how horrible this guy is. It is a glorious day!

Oh Lil Wayne. You smelly little fox.

This makes me laugh a little bit. Not because he's going to fail because I doubt that's the case at all. I think he realized somewhere how ridiculously fun being a celebrity and rapper of the year can be and decided to have fun with this project and do it strictly for himself. He probably feels if he's gonna go out on a limb by switching it up this much, now would be a good time since he feels untouchable.

Remember Lou Reed's "Berlin"? Not comparing great with trash, but more or less the circumstance of Lou releasing something so against the grain of an obvious path towards the top after "Transformer".

But this is also reminiscent of Derk Diggler cutting his album in Boogie Nights.

I'M DIGGIN HIS SONG HOT REVOLVER IT'S A PRETTY GOOD SONG FOR A RAPPER WHO IS DOING HIS FIRST ROCK ALBUM! AND JUST TO LET YA'LL KNOW THAT IS HIM PLAYING THE GUITAR~{WHICH HE OBVIOUSLY DOES BETTER THAN HE DOES SINGING} I AM ONE OF THE BIGGEST WEEZY FANS U WILL EVER MEET AND I WANT HIM TO KEEP RAPPING BUT I THINK HE DID THIS ROCK ALBUM FOR HIS SELF FOR A NEW SIDE TO HIS CREATIVITY (U GOTTA GIVE HIM PROPS ON THE CREATIVITY END OF THIS) EVERY AND ANYONE WHO DOWNS THE MAN FOR THIS PROJECT IS JUST A HATER,..DONT GET IT TWISTED IM NOT SAYING THIS IS THE BEST ROCK ALBUM OF ALL TIME OR EVEN A GOOD ROCK ALBUM BUT I AM SAYIN I GIVE HIM PROPS FOR DOING THIS ALBUM TO PLEASE HIS SELF AND I GIVE HIM PROPS FOR STRAYING FROM THE NORM AND NOT WORRYING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK OF HIM~ LIFE IS SHORT SO BE HAPPY NCONTENT BY DOING WHAT PLEASES U NOT WHAT PLEASES ANYONE ELSE!

I have always been a wayne fan ive followed his music since the early years i new every thing there was to know about Dawyne Carter .. I do give him his props and all for expessing his creativity and he is pretty talented with the guitar.. but i have to say this Prom queen song is a flop i feel hes made an F on this particully track. Its A mess i agree with those of you saying maybe hes doing this for him enjoying him self was ready to change and have fun doing it.. but this song... not good at all.

Are you kidding? If biggie was alive today he'd be completely offended by your statement. Sure, today's radio "rappers" may all turn to rock eventually but a real RAPPER would never sell himself out to such rediculous levels. They rap to rap, not to make money and make people happy.

Lil wayne is a big sellout and there is no question about it.. if you listen to his older shit VS. this new shit... how can people not sream sellout.... he went from an amazing rapper, to a great pop artist.. to sell out... first lollipop.... and now prom queen..
he always says weezy baby best rapper alive.. well i think he has shown the world how much rap means to him like he sold right out.. wouldnt have been so bad if he did what Jay Z did and went with some1 like linkin park and still did his rap thing... but he cut out the middle man and became rock... i know i will never look at this "rapper" the same again...

I don't think the guy is a sell out. I think he is just doing his own thing instead of following the same shit everyone else wants him to do. To be honest I hate the track, But I like the idea. I respect the man more for going out on his own and laying this track down, instead of just laying down a track over some linkin park bullshit like jay z. If yall think he is going to switch to rock completly, yall is crazy. Have yall heard the song Karaoke? Thats all I gotta say.
