New Old Roadside Graves

As the year slowly draws to a close and folks stay up late making lists, we found ourselves thinking of (and listening to) Roadside Graves, a countrified and Boss-y septet from New Jersey, who released the excellent No One Will Know Where You've Been a few months back to far too little fanfare. This morning we moseyed over to their MySpace and noticed they'd just posted songs from their self-released, hard to find If Shacking Up Is All You Want To Do debut. Lyricist/vocalist John Gleason pens some of the prettiest and smartest lyrics this side of Matt Berninger and these older tracks are quieter than the newbie, providing ample space for catching onto his storytelling. Definitely lean into "Song For A Dry State" and "Junk On The Highway."

No One Will Know Where You've Been is out on Kill Buffalo. You can get If Shacking Up from the band.

Thank you for showcasing my bud Jer's band. They are ridiculously good, as is their sister project The Takers. This way more than NJ can experience the majesty.

Dig the boots in front of the drum in the picture.

This band kicks tail
This band can, like, really wail.

off topic, sorry

On the Letterman show website there are two bonus Ryan Adams (he was on last night) songs, one from "Cold Roses" and another from "Easy Tiger"(for some reason performed at Dave's desk.

Nice!! The Graves are really really good and the No One Will Know Where You've Been deserves all the praise it gets. It was reviewed on P'Fork earlier this year and got like a 7.6 or something, not bad for a roots band.
