New PJ Harvey & John Parish - "Black Hearted Love"
PJ Harvey and multi-instrumental John Parish are following up 1996's collaborative Dance Hall At Louse Point with A Woman A Man Walked By. The 10-song collection, out at the end of the month, was produced by Harvey, Parish, and Flood. It features Harvey as lyricist/vocalist and Parish on guitars and backing vocals, etc. A Woman's windswept opener and first single, "Black Hearted Love," has a slinky, powerful Harvey vocal track and roaring guitar work via Parish. Fittingly for a "Black Heart," there's a darkness to the atmosphere. At times, the rhythmic start/stop and six-string peels are reminiscent of Sonic Youth, but as might be expected after looking at the above single art, Harvey and Parish enter a gothier realm.
A Woman A Man Walked By is out 3/30 via Island. You can purchase the "Black Hearted Love" single here. In anticipation of the full-length's release, Polly and John are playing a couple of shows together in the States:
03/23 - Los Angeles, CA @ El Rey
03/26 - New York, NY @ The Fillmore At Irving Plaza

A right fitting description about it being a bit sonic youthy. The production is fantastic, I assume Parish produced it. Too bad they are only doing two shows within the US.

"A couple shows" meaning two. Sounds like Polly though. (Can't speak for Parish--not sure how often he plays over here.) Sigh.
Good song, at least, and it's always great to hear her voice.

Lovely song, I've heard 5 songs off the new album. All different than before with flavors of White Chalk and Uh Huh Her. Keep up the GREAT work PJ. Wish I could see you live. Any more US shows?
