New Radiohead Song, Reissues Coming In August

thumbnail icon: New Radiohead Song, Reissues Coming In August

Back in January we saw Phil Selway trade drums for an acoustic and sing his droning, harmonious ditty "The Tie That Binds Us" at the 7 Worlds Collide super-concert in Australia. The event was an early celebration for the sequel to 2001's Neil Finn-assembled, Oxfam-benefit LP of the same name. Now that charitable sequel's got a firm release date (8/10) and title (The Sun Came Out), and will feature Phil's song with help from fellow Radiohead Ed O'Brien and a long list of exceptional et ceteras (Johnny Marr, Jeff Tweedy, Glenn Kotche, Liam Finn, and on).

In addition to that new song from the Radiohead camp comes news of reissues. Yes, more reissues. And yes, done at the behest of Capitol/EMI, who love money so much. The first round covered the first three albums, this next slate repackages Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail To The Thief, packing each with live tracks, b-sides, and other such fixings to help give opacity to the label's transparent cashgrab.. The rundown each album's additional material is listed at ateaseweb. Due 8/25.

How dare Capitol/EMI, they're actually trying to be a BUSINESS?

Did I miss something or does this article not say anything about a new Radiohead (you know, the kind with Thom Yorke?) song coming out?

I know everyone is either complaining about the "transparent cashgrab" or pointing out that EMI are just doing what they do (It's not like Radiohead didn't benefit in many ways from being on the label) but what I don't understand is why don't they put out all these bonus CDs and DVDs out in a b-sides/rarities boxset? Wouldn't that make them more money? I know I would buy it but I'm not going to go out of my way to buy these albums which I've already got and I'm sure I'm not alone. Are they completely blind to the actual fan market?

Whoa PSYCH! And here I thought 'new Radiohead song' meant a new Radiohead song! Ha! Good one.

So there is no new song...but the title says new song...I better read again just to make sure.

i believe the title indicated that radiohead reissues, AND a new radiohead song (via the charity album), will see release in august. it's quite normal for journalistic article titles to eschew the word "and" & substitute it with a comma. put your heads together, people.

So wait, Johnny Marr, Neil Finn, Jeff Tweedy and a bunch of others have officially joined Radiohead? THAT IS @#&*!*$ AWESOME!

Um, no... I think the problem people are having with this is that there ISN'T a "new Radiohead song" at all. Song made by supergroup including two members of Radiohead =/= new Radiohead song.

Seriously, you might go with a more accurate headline, especially since the first paragraph is about a Neil Finn project. You know, Split Enz? Crowded House? It's not as though he's an unknown, how else would he get all of those people to go to New Zealand? Yet the article proceeds as though he's an afterthought, and the image of Phil Selway makes him seem more important to the project than he is...

The concerts were in New Zealand. New Zealand is not in Australia.

Where's the new Radiohead song?

Man do I hate when blogs post misleading titles. Why say new Radiohead song when it isn't a new radiohead song. If Paul McCartney records a song with Tom Petty would you call it a new Beatles song?

'the 7 Worlds Collide super-concert in Australia'.

Actually the concert(s) were in New Zealand. New Zealand is 3000 miles from Australia - which is further than Moscow is from London. Check your facts.
