New Thom Yorke - "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses"/"The Hollow Earth"

thubmnail icon: New Thom Yorke - "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses"/"The Hollow Earth"

The digitally minded Radiohead man's new 12" arrived ahead of schedule for some today, and was immediately ripped and megauploaded right on schedule. Earlier this month, Thom described "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses" as a "radical rework of an old tune thats been kicking around without a home since 2001." "Reckoner" was said to be born out of the coda to the song, a six-and-a-half minute sketch that pairs a funky, repetitive bassline with Thom's heavily echoed, reliably cryptic poetry ("Insekt bytes machine gun cameras/ Fobbed off with lame shit excuses/ I've no sons and I've no daughters/ Feeling pulled apart by horses"); it morphs into a buzzy synth jam in its final two minutes. B-side "The Hollow Earth" is equally bleak and paranoid, all skittery beats reminiscent of The Eraser. Take a listen while you admire Stanley and Tchock's sliced sleeve.

Speaking of "Reckoner," Thom will perform the In Rainbows cut on Monday in a global broadcast that follows screenings of eco-docudrama The Age Of Stupid. From Dead Air Space:

age of StuPid StupID StuPid hi
there is a film that is getting a lot of attention call Aged of Stupid. i've seen it and it stays with you-
especially in light of the Copenhagen summit coming up in December where our glorious leaders must decide how we structure our plans to tackle climate change.
The global premier of it will happen on the 21st of september or 22nd depending on your time zone.
There are cinemas participating in over 50 countries - If you want to be part of it, you can buy a ticket for the one nearest to you by going to the age of stupid website

www.ageofstupid.net

After the screening, there will be live discussion thing via global satellite link up and after that I will be playing Reckoner live from an undisclosed location. (!)
Thom

Thom also did a surprise DJ set at the Roosevelt Hotel in LA the other day. He played Major Lazer.

"Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses" vinyl is available via TBD at w.a.s.t.e. It comes with a gratis download, but if you only want the files you can buy "through the usual channels" 10/6.

Both songs incredibly wicked and have nothing to do with In Rainbows and are even different from The Eraser. Adding these new ones to the All For The Best cover, we can say that a new full solo album would be just mindblowing. Thomas Yorke wins. Again.

Still holding out hope that hes not on twilight soundtrack. He never officially denied the wall of ice ep and that was all over the internet so maybe history will repeat itself.

you realize that radiohead already had a song on the first movie, right?
it wasn't on the soundtrack, but...what's the difference?

because this is the first time they can't blame it on a major label's greed.

Radiohead have been on Romeo & Juliet, Clueless, and the first Twilight Movie. Why do you have a problem with this now?

Oh wow these are really bad, what the fuck is up with the vocal on Hollow Earth, I don't think Thom realizes how awful his voice has become.

And 'Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses', congrats Thom Yorke on turning another great song into one of your laptop electronic mush. BARKING?! Ahahaha!

I feel bad for anyone who paid $24 for this.

The old Pulled Apart wasn't that great to begin with.

I guess it's true that Jonny IS the real genius behind Radiohead. Listen to the beauty that is Bodysong, then listen to Yorke's cringe-worthy new single. I actually expected better from Yorke this time after his mediocre 2005 solo album. I'm glad I didn't spend my money on this.

Most people enjoy Thom's work more than Jonny's, so your opinion is invalid.

Thom Yorke haters gotta eat! Both songs are mindblowing! The only ones whinning are the Radiohead fans who are afraid little ginge Thom will get too much success alone and will let the band. Don't worry suckers, Thom is much better than that, he loves his band beyond you fanboys would even understand. BTW, the intro in Hollow Earth is shaped that way because who ripped it did an shitty job. The original song starts much better. Thom's voice isn't only a voice anymore, he and the whole world knows he can sing like no other but in his songs he now acts as an instrument. Get it. He doesn't need to belt to prove he can sing, he is already beyond that.

To call Radiohead greater than most bands in the world is seriously lame. I love them as much as the next person, but I it really gets on my nerves when they are canonized as such. Especially when there is so much great/interesting music is out there. I like this Yorke single a lot, though. I think it is way more interesting than some of the Radiohead stuff the last couple years for me. I think if they took some time off to pursue solo things, it would be cool and better for them as a whole. Twisted Words was very average. I hope we are not in store for a series of In Rainbows B side sounding songs from here on out.

Hey Thom,

Until you and Radiohead start releasing songs on complete albums or some sort of singles compilation, I won't be paying attention to whatever it is you're putting out right now no matter how good they are.

Thanks!

Its more because I don't have the time to keep track of random singles being released, and then missing something.

If you can't keep track of "random" singles, you're in a world of trouble. Singles are not a new phenomenon, so you've been missing something for a while. Honestly, no offense. I'm trying to be nice, but traditional music is quickly fading.

whoa musicisnotyou, chillax... anyway, singles are nothing new but this whole "out with the old, in with the new" mentality is just another arrogant, ignorant argument. a few reasons why music in totality will eventually go to hell is because of this digita/12"/7"/whatever" LPl, non-album, release-what-you-want-when-you-want-to model that will eventually coagulate with spotify and no new bands will ever get heard or have an opportunity anymore. so pat yourselves on the back everyone! not only will you not have anything to hold anymore but you'll also have nothing to listen to, too!

As far as I'm concerned, Thom can release music however the heck he pleases. (But he better do so on some sort of physical format eventually. Music archival geek here!)

Pulled Apart By Horses is a collaboration between Yorke AND Jonny Greenwood you IDIOT! If Joony is the "real" genius there and you think Horses is sh*t, so blame him as well.

BTW, both songs are AWESOME! Yorke solo stuff is very different from what Radiohead is doing and that's really nice. He knows what he does with the band and sans the band and achieves great results with both works.

The distortion on his voice is deliberated, I was at one of their shows early this year in South America and couldnt belive my ears witnissing how incredibly powerful that man's voice is live. Mr. Yorke is a tremendous artist and we should be glad his so active and releasing great work .

apparently thom yorke feels his creeped out cringing voice hasn't lost its novelty. Then again being a pseudointellectual gone halfwitted fatalist validates any phlegmatic phase apparently.
