NME Continues Its Blur-ry Speculation

Good news, Team Damon. Well, possible good news. We usually ignore NME's incessant Blur reunion updates, but this one struck us for being the closest we've heard from Graham himself about the prospects for reunion. Blur bassist Alex James told The Sunday Times (via NME):

I've been talking to Graham and there might be some good news. It's by no means in the bag, but it looks quite promising. Maybe the time is right. We've always left the door open for him, so that's what I'm hoping for.
With Think Tank being the band's last record, and featuring only Damon, Alex, and Dave, the hope is that the kids can bring it together for just one more, full four piece record. Graham's departure was, in part, for want of a less destructive lifestyle. But Damon seems so responsible these days, innit? Needless to say it's the most speculated-upon event in Brit rock, akin to our pointless Chinese Democracy obsessing. So will it ever happen? And what comes first: Blur reunion? Or Axl's "opus"? Well while you're waiting for the new Blur, kill some time with The Good, The Bad & The Queen, streaming in its entirety on MySpace.

I'm figuring the Blur thing is more likely. After all, with modern recording, Damon and Graham don't actually have to associate much with each other anymore... plus, a little judicious venue-choosing goes a long way. Everyone was pleased as punch with Pink Floyd's Live 8 reunion. No one got hurt. No one has to ever do it again. It ties the Floyd legacy into a nice, neat bow.

Not so for our lad Axl. Now that he has become the self-proclaimed center of the G 'n R universe, he never really has to do anything beyond canceling more shows for inane reasons. "Chinese Democracy" never needs to come out and I really don't care if it does.

That said, so long as it is not the blown opportunity "Think Tank" was, I would completely welcome a Blur reunion disc.

Hey, anything that would completely cheese off Jarvis Cocker is fine by me.

2 more promising signs: 1. Graham went round to Alex's farm for the latter's bday the other week (and they jammed with Alex's neighbor up the road). 2. Graham's last solo record sounded more like Blur than, well, the last Blur record (so he's obviously got the whole Slint thing out of his system now).
