No Doubt Cover Adam Ant

thubmnail icon: No Doubt Cover Adam Ant

Yes, the reunited and currently touring No Doubt will appear on Gossip Girl. When we last mentioned it, we didn't know they'd be covering Adam Ant in the process. Very timely, No Doubt. It all takes place as part of the 5/11 season finale during a flashback scene that sets up Lily van der Woodsen's still-untitled '80s spin-off. Gwen & Co. were rechristened Snowed Out (hear that?) for the occasion. The song they strangle tackle is Adam And The Ants 1981 Prince Charming hit "Stand & Deliver." It'll be released as a single at some point, but you might want to hear it first.

Sill Gwen Stefani, you aren't Eddie Argos.

On a related note, who wants to see Art Brut cover this song?

Am I the only person who thinks Gwen Stefani sounds like Geddy Lee?

Does anyone remember when Sugar Ray covered this? Oddly it sucked much less than No Doubt's version.

There are a lot of new wave songs I would actually like to hear No Doubt cover but "Stand and Deliver" is not one of them. I don't think it really works.

And yes, Gwen does sound kind of like Geddy Lee here!

They did justice to howard jones "it's My life" but this is lethargic (i.e. boring and tired). I bet Adam could belt out a better version at 60.

DANDY HIGHWAYMAN!!!! It's been a mystery to me all these years what that lyric was. Thank you, Stereogum, for cluing me in, even if you did assault me with that awful No Doubt cover.

I blame all the people who bought Gwen's crappy solo material. Now she thinks she can do anything from any period and get away with it. This is awful.

this is far better than anything from rock steady. why so much hate? unlike the rest of you, this gives me hope that whatever they release post-tour won't suck like a black hole.

Why release a cover as a single? It's a money grab. It sucks. Gwen Stefani sucks. Now people are going to think Stand and Deliver was written by No Doubt just like people think It's My Life was written by No Doubt (or, apparently, Howard Jones?).

this is dreadful and she needs to never try to copy an English accent ever again.
and i'm not just saying that because i already love the original.

Oh c'mon, it's frikkin charming. And it's not exactly a cash cow of an 80s track.

What is it with No Doubt and 80s covers? It's not like they have anything to add to those songs. The songs certainly don't sound better.

Take a catchy 80s song that teens don't know and add NOTHING to it and you've got a surefire hit. It's lazy, it's embarassing, it needs to stop.

Agreed.

Stupid betch did the same thing to Talk Talk. And the 'kids' don't know any better. I partially grew up in the '80s, so this really annoys the shit outta me.

I had this very song's poster in my room in Jr. High. It was hot. All of them dressed as [dandy] pirates. Adam Ant fucked it all up by going solo.

This is an atrocity. Gwen Stefani should have hot lead poured down her voice. Good god.

Let's see Sony re-issue the original. Still the best version, and a track that still sounds really good 28 years later. Want to see No Doubt's veriion be massive, so that Adam can get the profile back he so richly deserves. Not sure why Gwen sings this in such a daft voice though. Wonder what a remix would sound like???

For the record that song isn't a single and it won't be released. It was just offered to fans that bought top tickets for the concerts. imo I think that cover is great. Can't wait for the new album.
